Very enjoyable and encouraging. I have a full review at my blog, please check it out. http://notmytypee.blogspot.com/2017/02/activation-by-adam-gellert.html
I thought this book would be too cutesy to be good, but I loved it. There are so many things Southern women can relate to, even if your husband has never hit you with a church van. I have a full review on my blog: http://notmytypee.blogspot.com/2014/10/chimes-from-cracked-southern-belle.html
The Goldfinch: A Novel (Pulitzer Prize for Fiction) (National Book Critics Circle Award: Fiction Finalists) by Donna Tartt
Great book, although not everyone agrees. I give my reasons in a full review on my blog: http://notmytypee.blogspot.com/2014/09/the-goldfinch.html
Every moment spent with this book is one you will wish you had back. Absolutely terrible.
Incoherent. Not worthy of the use of Houdini's name.
Fantastic book. Quirky and compelling on every page.
Informative without being boring. I'm learning everything I ever wanted to know about why we eat the way we do. Great book. I won my copy through First Reads and will definitely recommend it to friends.
Trollope is an odd duck, but some of his characters (including Ayala) are rather endearing.
She's a stubborn, idealistic girl whose notions of what a man should be conflict with the realities of every man she meets.

Update:
I've finished reading The Lost Summer of Louisa May Alcott and it was a highly entertaining book which brought me into the lives of Alcott's family and the possibilities of Louisa May Alcott's private life.
The book was very well researched and brings to life an authoress whose fiery personality and romantic disposition are usually only seen through her characters.
I've won a copy of this book through First Reads and I am very excited about reading it! I love Louisa May Alcott's writing and books about her. She was a fascinating woman who deserves examination.

I enjoyed this book for its honesty and the depth of personal feeling. It's clearly not written by a professional author, but that's what makes it so good. The stories jump around a bit in time and weave through each other in the same way it would if it was your own grandfather telling you about his life. There were times I laughed out loud and times I felt genuinely sad about his family tragedies.
I've won a copy of From the Farm to the Fair through First Reads. I love books about interesting people and am looking forward to receiving my copy.

Update: I've finished reading and this was an extremely witty, highly entertaining book. The references to B-rated horror movies and 50s & 60s pop culture are endless, some of which I expected and some I didn't. J!m is the epitome of the teenaged outsider...an alien. Most of his friends are atomic mutants with parents out of black and white monster flicks.
It's hard to believe no one has already written this book, but I doubt anyone could have done it better than Doyle. My only complaint? I need more! Sequel, anyone?
I've won a copy of Go, Mutants! on First Reads and am very excited about reading it.

Update: I finished reading it tonight and I loved it. I spent all my free time for the past two days reading because, like Pia, once I got started, I couldn't stop until I found the truth.
I won a copy of this book through First Reads. It sounds eerie and enthralling. I love a good mystery, especially one with a few twists.

Update: one of the best books I've read in a long time. Pulitzer shaped this country with his sharp intelligence and insistence on journalistic independence. I highly recommend it to biography lovers and anyone who wants to understand that time in America's history.
I won a copy through First Reads and it arrived today! I've just started it, but so far it's an entertaining, informative read. Looking forward to more of the same.

This book took me quite a while to read because it's one of those books I thoroughly enjoyed when I was sitting down reading it, but I didn't have an urge to keep going back to it the way I do with most books.
The characters are very well written and, for the most part, likable even it they aren't good people. R. Tranter was my favorite character. He's a bitter remora of the the literary world and I had to laugh while sympathizing a bit with him.

I won a copy of Hidden Wives through First Reads and enjoyed reading it very much. The characters are engaging and the story is realistic and gripping. I had a few minor problems with the plot and choices made by the main characters, but overall it's well-written. I recommend it to anyone interested in the sordid truth about polygamist sects.
This "Nonfiction Thriller" somehow manages to turn one of the most fascinating stories in history into a banal novel that reads like it was written by a teenager.
Typee is my favorite Melville work.
I read this years ago and loved it. Not sure if I'd enjoy it as much as an adult, but I remember it fondly.
Update: great book. It kept me guessing the whole way through and will give me a few things to think about even now that I'm done reading.
I've won a copy of Horns on First Reads and it sounds like a very unique, interesting book. Can't wait to start reading!

Hypothermia is an enjoyable, satisfying book. I was at first irked by the translation, which seems clumsy at times and makes no allowance for those of us who know nothing about the culture and geography of Iceland. But as I continued reading, I found myself drawn deeply into the chilly, stark world Indridason brings to life. The language is simple, but consistently and consciously so. The characters are painfully honest with each other and despite their tragic stories and the bleak setting, I was quite pleased with the way everything was wrapped up. A good book is one that makes you eager to get back to it and this book had that effect on me.
Good concept, but the story drags on far too long. Perhaps it would have been a better short story.
Delightful book. Even though he insults rum right and left, as well as many other drinks, DeVoto makes you feel like one of the chosen by sharing his view of the cocktail hour.

An exciting, gripping book: Killer Colt is the very well-written true story of John C. Colt's trial for murder.
Most people have heard of his brother, Samuel, inventor of the Colt pistol. But John Colt was as infamous in his day as Samuel would be famous. This book brings to life the scandals surrounding John's trial--an event as widely publicized and debated as our most famous modern trials.
Schechter draws a complete picture of the political and social atmosphere that influenced (and was influenced by) the trial. Authors, abolitionists, Congressmen and popular entertainers all enter into the story and add the color that can only come from the best non-fiction.

After reading Revolver, I am very pleased with it. I don't usually have any interest in YA books, but this one is more than good enough to be enjoyed by adults. It is a bit adult for younger children, but just right for young teens all the way up.
I've won a copy on First Reads and I look forward to reading it. I like the description and think it sounds like a neat read.
