A disappointing book, particularly since he had favorable comments from some authors I admire. I thought the writing very choppy, with far too many one-sentence paragraphs. The decisions by characters seemed illogical, and the dialogue unnatural. There was too much chanting in his made-up (?) language. The flow of the book was confusing, and it never captured my imagination. All in all, it had the feel of fanfic rather than professional writing. Sorry, Moses.

Just bought this, but enjoying it already. It is the final book in the Silverskin trilogy, and I thought the first two were great. Jo tells me a new series is coming soon. I'll rate it once I finish...
A special gift from Otis, this book was essential to me in the era before PC's. (What, you say, was there ever a time like that? Why yes, yes there was... and I owned a slide rule, too.)

I have the 1981 hardbound edition, not the 1997 paperback one. It was my favorite kanji book until another one I will add when I get home.

A great book that was a text in one of the most enjoyable courses I ever took. Believe it or not, I still refer to it!
Formerly five stars, now down to 4 1/2, since things keep changing in the world of Asian language interfaces and programming. A very challenging area for gaijin, and this book is a wonderful intro and reference.

Just one of the tons of O'Reilly's on my shelf. Wish I knew what was in all of them!

More consistently excellent manga art by leading Japanese mangaka.
More great manga art by leading Japanese mangaka.
Wonderful artwork by a host of outstanding Japanese mangaka.
First of a great series. I thought, oh, not another space opera... but I read the first one, and the second, ... and now I have a huge pile of them!
In spite of Fred's self-denigration, this is a wonderful manga series. No fan service (thanks to Fred's high moral standards), and a sprinkling of 1337. Consistently entertaining.
Best fantasy series from the perspective of a bastard assassin.
The best fantasy series from the perspective of the nobility. Even though it is not historical, it has been giving me a much better understanding of what the War of the Roses must have been like.
There will never be another world's fair like this one! The more I learn about it, the more amazed I become. Try to watch the documentary on it as well.
