full review can be seen at https://basicbitchreads.home.blog/2019/02/18/sometimes-i-lie-by-alice-feeney/ I thought this was an excellent debut novel, and Alice Feeney will have a best seller in a few years. The plot was good, the characters good and the ending was a surprise. I was honored to get a free copy of this book in return for an honest rating and review. For 5 reasons you should read this book, check out my blog at the link listed above. Happy reading ya'll!
Wow, what a series this was. This is the last book in the Grant County series, and I am devastated it is over. Although I have already started the Will Trent series, which kind of overlaps into the end of this series, I am still sad it had to come to an end. And Karin Slaughter went out with a bang on this one! She proved that she is not afraid to write about delicate subject matter, and she does what is best for the story.
I love all of Karin Slaughter's books, but this is my least favorite of the Grant County series. However, it is full of character building details that are really important to the series as a whole so I completely understand why.
My thoughts on this book- This was an easy read, although some of the content was disturbing. The narrator of the audio-book was excellent. I thought the author did a wonderful job of portraying the love small towns have for their local sports teams. It makes you understand how the town redneck can cheer for a team like he is a college alumni. I can say this, because I am from a small town myself. It shows how the town can come together during good times, and become even stronger during a crisis. On the flip side, it shows how best friends can suddenly become aware of their moral differences, when faced with a personal crisis. What seems like the most important thing in life, can lose all of its power with a blink of the eye. The main characters, and some secondary characters, were well developed. I could feel the heart of this town, and the story flowed like a man made stream, smooth and just fast enough to keep you turning the page. I didn’t forward through any parts, nor did I roll my eyes a single time (which I often do when I think something is too far fetched). I can’t wait to read more books by this author. Next on my list is A Man Called Ove.

My thoughts on the book- First, I can completely see why the reviews are so mixed. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book, dying to know what would happen next. But the events do unfold rather slowly, even if it is told with suspense. I can see how the fine detail to the meal would be annoying to some; I found that this added to the suspense. Since the book is so short however, it does not take long for the reader to get to “the point” of the book. I would say this book has a little Gone Girl character to it, mixed with a little Defending Jacob. None of the characters in this book are particularly likable, but what fascinated me was that they liked each other. It felt kind of like that best friend who adores the husband that you really despise, but you can’t exactly figure out why you don’t like him or why she does. I listened to this book on audio, and the narrator was fantastic. I really loved his voice and the way he told the story. I am not sure I would have enjoyed it as much as a physical book; not sure my mind could have done the story as much justice as the narrator did. Next, I plan to watch the movie- I will post an update with it’s review.
