Let's start under the knowledge that I am usually a big fan of Kate Atkinson's work but with this book I found myself completely non engaged. The cast of characters are generally unlikable which would be fine if the plot carried them along but it doesn't it meanders slowly along towards a final twist which was well done and took me by surprise but not enough to make up for the previous 300 odd pages. This is most definitely not another life after life.
Light and entertaining look into the life of a journeyman premier league footballer. No axe to grind so no "revelations" but written in a style that makes it easy to fly through.

Well written, creepy and unsettling. Well worth a read.
A must for every football fan regardless of club affiliation. The tales of the scouts have to be heard to believed, the great signings the ones that got away plus the camaraderie between them all regardless of clubs represented.

Please read!!!!
Very Very Strange Indeed. Like adpaton I struggled to get through this book, it is the first Tim Powers I have read and it is unlikely to attract me back to this author. Only 2 likeable characters and a plot so convoluted it is difficult to follow and trust me this is not usually a problem for me. The remaining cast are either very odd or dislikeable with names which appear to have been chosen to make the book hard. In short not for me.

Sub Dan Brown nonsense, poorly written with stock characters.

Both Brilliant and depressing, sheds a light on the murky workings of Sepp Blatters FIFA and how flat out denial can work when not enough people want to rock the gravy train they all ride on.
I like my thrillers to be well thrilling and this book just didn't do it for me. The detectives had no personality and were difficult to relate for that reason. The plot such as it was had a very good germ of an idea which was smothered by the speed of the plot which did not allow for any tension to build and was then topped by the co-incident riddled finale. Poor
Terrible Terrible Terrible, gave up after 70 pages or so. Just so so poor.
A great start and a good thriller let down by some 2D characters in the supporting roles to the main protagonists.
Very tense thriller, well written with quite believable characters who are not infallible leading down different plot paths than expected. Only disappointment is that the ending felt a little rushed would definitely recommend.
Pretty decent book, fairly irreverent look at the subject matter. It's not a book if you are looking for in depth character studies but does include a lot of the more obscure baddies from English comics, especially 2000AD.
Disappointing novel, neither a good Dr Who story nor a good Michael Moorcock story.
