Wow! Where do I begin? Tarantino does not let us down in this World War II Nazi-infested tale of survival and gruesome murders (ahh, the irony). The screenplay parallels two different stories. The first being with Shosanna Dreyfuss. She's a jewish girl hiding from the Nazi's under the floorboards of a German Farmhouse. Her family gets machine-gunned by Colonel Landa's minions in front her. She is the only survivor. Her mission in life stays the same: survival but with a twist -- get revenge. The second story to parallel Shosanna's is about the Inglourious Basterds led by Lieutenant Aldo Raine. The basterds mission is to kill all Nazi's, torture them like they've tortured all the Jews, and scalp them. Their stories meet up when all the prominent Nazi's converge in the same cinema. Shosanna and the Basterds are simultaneously planning their revenge in the same location, at the same time, though neither knows about the other. Will they both execute their plans effectively? Or will they die trying?
The story is definitely Tarantino-esque will all the mayhem and witty dialogue. If I would post all the lines that I liked the most, I'd be here a while, and you'd be reading the entire screenplay! I'll just post a little dialogue between Lt. Aldo Raine and the Basterds that happened in the beginning of chapter 2 and sums up the Basterd's mission:
Lt. Aldo Raine: My name is Lt. Aldo Raine and I need me eight soldiers. Eight Jewish-American soldiers. Now, y'all might of heard rumors show more about the armada happening soon. Well, we'll be leaving a little earlier. We're gonna be dropped into France, dressed as civilians. And once we're in enemy territory, as a bushwackin' guerrilla army, we're gonna be doing one thing and one thing only... killing Nazis. Members of nationalist socialist party conquered Europe through murder, torture, intimation, and terror. And that's exactly what we're gonna do to them. Now, I don't know about y'all, but I sure as hell didn't come down from the goddamn Smoky Mountains, cross five thousand miles of water, fight my way through half Sicily and then jump out of a fuckin' air-o-plane to teach the Nazis lessons in humanity. Nazi ain't got no humanity. They're the foot soldiers of a Jew-hatin', mass murderin' maniac and they need to be dee-stroyed. That's why every son of a bitch we find wearin' a Nazi uniform, they're gonna die. We will be cruel to the Germans and through our cruelty they will know who we are. They will find the evidence of our cruelty in the disemboweled, dismembered, disfigured bodies their brothers we leave behind us and the Germans will not be able to help themselves from imagining the cruelty their brothers endured at our hands, at our boot heels, and the edge of our knives. And the Germans will be sickened by us, the Germans will talk about us and the Germans will fear us. And when the Germans close their eyes at night and their subconscious tortures them for the evil they've done, it will be with thoughts of us that it tortures them with. Sound good?
The Basterds: YES, SIR!
Lt. Aldo Raine: That's what I like to hear. But I got a word of warning to all would-be warriors. When you join my command, you take on a debit. A debit you owe me personally. Each and every man under my command owes me one hundred Nazi scalps. And I want my scalps. And all y'all will git me one hundred Nazi scalps, taken from the heads of one hundred dead Nazis. Or you will die tryin'.

This is by far the best book I've read in quite some time. It is completely different than anything else I've read. Katniss (not to be confused with Catsnip), our heroine of the story, learns to illegally hunt game in the forest, with her friend Gale (a boy), for survival. Her father, before he died (don't worry this is not a spoiler), taught her how to hunt and survive in the wilderness. She uses her gatherings to sell and trade in the Black Market. Without Katniss, her mother and little sister Prim, couldn't survive.
The story begins with the family, and every other family in District 12, going into a drawing. Although, a "drawing" sounds like a fun lottery, to District 12 and all the Districts in Panem, the drawing could mean death. Two members of each district between the ages of 12 and 18 are drawn. One boy and one girl. The 24 tributes (that's the word used for the victims, ahem I mean, the chosen ones) must all compete against each other in a survival of the fittest match a.k.a the Hunger Games. There can only be one survivor. When Prim's name is called, Katniss races to the stage and volunteers herself instead. The second tribute, Peeta, the Bakers son, is also called.
They're both swept into a different world. One, at first, is filled with an exceptional amount of food - a feast. They are heartily fed for the week before the match is to begin. They are assigned stylists who primp and prepare them for the cameras and interviews they're about to give, as if they were show more going to some happy place to vacation. (The irony of it all is never lost on the reader.) The purpose of this charade is to attract sponsors. The more likable you are, the higher your chances of attaining one. Sponsors will send you little packages throughout the Hunger Games that will help you in some way. Thus the more sponsors you have, the better chance you have of surviving.
Unfortunately for Katniss and Peeta, the tributes from the other places come from richer Districts. The have been training their whole lives for this. These tributes are known as Career Tributes. Katniss and Peeta feel they don't stand a chance. Apparently so does their "prep team" because they have formed an illusion in front of the camera and audience members during their interviews of a blossoming love. Katniss doesn't understand why're they're doing this at first because, in the end, when it comes down to the last few combatants, she may very well have to have a face-off with Peeta (since their can only be one survivor). It finally dawns on her that by playing up the "romance bit" it just may get her more sponsors. She's not much of an actress though so it's a bit of a struggle for her since she's always closed off her emotions.
The 24 combatants are thrust onto a man-made field for hand-to-hand combat. They must all fight for their survival and kill one another. The last person standing wins. When the buzzer sounds, signaling for them to get out of their starting point, they must either decide to run up to a table filled with some survival kits and possibly face other members who are willing to kill them over the same kits or run for their lives into the forest.
The members face starvation, dehydration, infections, fires, and everything horrible you can think of. In a place where everyone is out to get you, Katniss forms an alliance with an unlikely person and they strike up a friendship. Then the rules change: there won't be just one survivor. If two members of the same District are left standing, they will both be the winners. At that, Katniss and Peeta find each other and strike up a romance. Is it real? Is it played up for TV? Will they both survive or just one of them or will they both die from their infections and dehydration?
This is definitely a true page turner. Even though it's considered a young adult book, it deals with adult content. Not in the romantic "adult content" sense, but in the topics it covers and the questions it forces you to ask yourself, such as, what would I do in that situation? Would I be able to kill if I were being attacked? Would I survive in the wilderness (I already know the answer for me... NO). Would I be able to trust someone I know would kill me in the blink of an eye, but who's help I need to survive, ironically enough?

Fielding Grey, treasure hunter (think Nicholas Cage in National Treasure), is hired by Solomon's - a secret society made up of scholars, collector's, and treasure hunter's - to find Pandora's box. Fielding agrees to this not because of the adventure, which would be reason enough for me, but because he believes the men of Solomon's are responsible for his father's death and by accepting this task, he'll be able to finally uncover the truth.
Esme Worthington is a self taught scholar whose passion in life is devouring any information regarding Pandora's box. Her father, before he passed away, knew her obsession with Pandora's box and gave her a necklace with a key on it. Little did she know it was the actual key to Pandora's box! After her parents passed away, Esme had lead a quiet life up until the night she was kidnapped by two of Raven's henchmen. After that fateful night, her life would never be the same again...
The Raven, like Fielding Grey, is also a treasure hunter, but unlike Fielding, he will stop at nothing to get what he wants, even if it means kidnapping and murdering one of his own!
Fielding Grey finds Esme Worthington the night she is kidnapped, handcuffed to a wall wearing only a "flimsy nightdress" (I'm thinking it's a bit see-thru since he cannot seem to stop looking at her!). Not only has he found Esme, but he has also found Pandora's box. When Esme realizes she has the Pandora's box in her hand, she can't help but to peek inside. Boy was that a mistake! The show more box contains four gold bangles inside and, of course, as luck - or lack there of - would have it, she gets the bangle for LUST. She only has until the next lunar eclipse to figure out how to take it off or she'll die. Fielding and Esme go on a few adventures throughout the book trying to discover how to get the cursed bangle off, figure out who's to blame for Fielding's fathers death, find out who exactly is The Raven and how is he tied into Fielding's life, and of course they also need to figure out how to keep their hands off each other since Fielding is in no way 'in need of a wife'. Plus, there's also that nagging little question in the back of Esme's mind, "Does he want me because he's in love with me? or... Does he lust after me because of the curse?"
I truly enjoyed this book :) It just hit the bookstore stands and I'm already itching to read the ones that will eventually follow (this is book 1 in 'The Legend Hunters' series). The storyline really caught my attention since I haven't read any books about treasure hunters lately. It wasn't confusing and didn't have crazy unimportant details that I've found in books recently. (You know those times where you read a book and there's a point where you think to yourself, "Alright! Enough already with the explanations and all the details! I get it! The tree is green!) well.. that didn't happen in this book (Yay!). Don't get me wrong, I LOVE details but lately it seems I've read certain books where it's sooooo detailed you forget what they're trying to detail! *phew* Anyhoo... It was a fast, entertaining, easy read. I definitely recommend this book! Oh... and the love scenes weren't raunchy, they were juuuuuust right!

My Forbidden Desire was an exciting read! It starts off with Alexandrine Marit, a mage (a witch), being held captive by a fiend (a subspecies of demon). Fiends loathe witches because witches enslave and murder his kind, so when Xia, the fiend, is ordered to protect Alexandrine, he's not too thrilled about it. Funny thing is, he needs to protect her against her own father! A father that gave her up when she was only three years old. He's after her for a Talisman she found while searching for him in Turkey. The talisman gives witches the ability to have stronger powers. The talisman is also slowly attaching itself to Alexandrine which makes her extremely vulnerable when she parts herself from it.
Her only hope is Xia. Xia battles his emotions for Alexandrine throughout the entire book. He hates her for what she is, a witch, and he hates her for who her father is, which is the same man that enslaved Xia for years. Xia sees Alexandrine is different from any witch he's ever known. She's unselfish, kindhearted, and sexy as hell! He is drawn to her magic and together they go on a rollercoaster ride trying to figure out what to do about her father, the talisman, and the sexual tension between them!
I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters were intense to say the least! I loved how Xia was extremely attracted to Alexandrine but was trying to fight it because of who and what she was. He hated her yet wanted to protect her. She also couldn't stand him but found herself show more falling for him. The plot was interesting and I thought it was pretty cool the story had it's own "lingo". I kept having to refer to the glossary but that was part of the fun!

Synopsis:
From the acclaimed author of The Rossetti Letter comes a dazzling novel of intrigue, passion, and royal secrets that shifts tantalizingly between Restoration-era London and present-day Cambridge.
London, 1672. The past twelve years have brought momentous changes: the restoration of the monarchy, a devastating plague and fire. Yet the city remains a teeming, thriving metropolis, energized by the lusty decadence of Charles II's court and burgeoning scientific inquiry. Although women enjoy greater freedom, they are not allowed to practice medicine, a restriction that physician Hannah Devlin evades by treating patients that most other doctors shun: the city's poor.
But Hannah has a special knowledge that Secretary of State Lord Arlington desperately needs. At the king's Machiavellian court, Hannah attracts the attention of two men, charming courtier Ralph Montagu and anatomist Dr. Edward Strathern, as well as the attention of the powerful College of Physicians, which views her work as criminal. When two influential courtiers are found brutally murdered, their bodies inscribed with arcane symbols, Hannah is drawn into a dangerous investigation by Dr. Strathern, who believes the murders conceal a far-reaching conspiracy that may include Hannah's late father and the king himself.
Cambridge, 2008. Teaching history at Trinity College is Claire Donovan's dream come true -- until one of her colleagues is found dead on the banks of the River Cam. The only key to the professor's show more unsolved murder is a seventeenthcentury diary kept by his last research subject, Hannah Devlin, physician to the king's mistress. With help from the eclectic collections of Cambridge's renowned libraries, Claire and historian Andrew Kent follow the clues Devlin left behind, uncovering secrets of London's dark past and Cambridge's equally murky present, and discovering that events of three hundred years ago may still have consequences today....
A suspenseful and richly satisfying tale brimming with sharply observed historical detail, The Devlin Diary brings past and present to vivid life. With wit and grace, Christi Phillips holds readers spellbound with an extraordinary novel of secrets, obsession, and the haunting power of the past.

I absolutely LOVED this book! I wanted to post the synopsis written by Pocket Books because I wanted our followers to truly understand all the different elements of the book and different story lines and I felt if I wrote it I wouldn't do it justice. I've been trying to figure out what to write but the only thing that keeps running through my head is "What a GREAT book! What a GREAT book!" You don't need to read the first one (The Rossetti Letter) to understand whats going on, but I sure wish I would have only because this book was soooooo good! I love how the author goes back and forth between London 1672 and present day Cambridge without any confusion. When there are two different stories in one book, like this one, I usually lean more towards one story than the other, but I completely loved both story lines. This book is definitely a page turner. I highly recommend this book!

Book 9 of the Sookie Stackhouse series is, in my opinion, one of the best in the series. I absolutely LOVE how Eric and Sookie's "ship" (relationship/friendship) has changed in a suprising way! There's a hot and steamy scene involving Sookie and ... (I'll never tell!) I think it's GREAT that Bill is still there trying to save Sookie's life. Even though I'm personally a little upset at him for some of the actions he's taken in the previous books, I can't seem to stop sighing everytime he calls her sweetheart and vows to protect her even if it costs him his life! There's a line in the book where he says, "Sweetheart, I have always loved you and I will be proud to die in your service". **Sigh** Does the fact that I sigh for both Eric AND Bill make me a fangbanger? Hmmm...? Now the REAL question is, does BILL actually die?!
I'm a little surprised at Charlaine Harris for having Sookie reflect on her decisions and how they affect her Christianity. She hasn't really done that before. There's a part where Sookie says to herself, "That made me a bad Christian, I realized. Though I knew I wasn't a deep theological thinker, I sometimes wondered if crisis moments in my life hadn't come down to two choices: be a bad Christian or die? I'd chosen life everytime." I think it's fine for Sookie to have these thoughts, after all, she IS human and she IS a Christian, but I really hope Charlaine doensn't go all "Anne Rice" on us and start writing only Christian books!
Even though Charlaine tied show more up some loose ends from the previous books, she left a whole bunch of new ones! I cannot wait to read the tenth book! I sure hope we don't have to wait a whole year for the next one!! show less
