Very similar to Zoller's other book, The Dark Eagle" (q.v.), but with the addition of footnotes, index and bibliography. Expounds the author's theory that Arnold was framed by Washington to eliminate a popular, successful general who could become a political rival after the war.
Author relates an interesting theory that Arnold was "set up" as a traitor in order to eliminate him as a potential future challenger to Washington's post-war ambitions. There are no footnotes, and no substantiating evidence is cited. The author combines his understanding of Arnold's demonstrated character, the potential dark motives of Washington, and other such factors to create what he seems to state as fact, but in the end asserts is his "theory." Most of the book consists of a narrative of Arnold's life story, necessarily brief due to the length of the book. The focus of the theory is in chapters 23 and 24. An intriguing hypothesis that inspires further thought and research!
