This was a good read. Definitely an eye-opener. The flattening of the world needs to be addressed in education, which always seems to be behind he times. I really believe the U.S. has an opportunity that past Global Powers had screwed up. Just imagine if British parliament had granted the colonies and India representation in Parliament and treated everyone equal. Hopefully the U.S. cn learn from others past mistakes.
Now I'm interested in his follow up book "Hot, Flat, and Crowded."
I liked it, but it was a little strange. Maybe I'm just not that into literature. Could of been a sci-fi book or a historical fiction.
This is a fantastic summary of Chinese History. I don't think there is a better more succinct quick read out there. I would love to see Prof. Wasserstrom updated version.
Has some great history and his story is very exciting until he settles down in Germany. It gets kind of boring when it discusses the German literary scene. I liked the history parts and when he was young and on the run.
Obviously an amazing book, it won the Pulitzer Prize. The information on Japan concerning how it coped with the U.S. occupation explains why the U.S. was so successful in its occupation. The key was Japan's acceptance of the occupation.
You need maps if you are going to read this. You REALLY need maps.
I loved it in high school, but as an adult I became bored pretty fast. It did really become interesting until the very end.
Really good historical fiction. Follett does a great job of explaining the major historical events of the times while intertwining them with the fictional characters.
Amazing book! Not only should all athletes read it. But anyone who wants to learn what it means to be tough in everyday life.
Amazing book about Bracciolini's rediscovery of Lucretius's On the Nature of Things..
Way better than I thought it was going to be and nothing like the movie. I'm amazed at how Max Brooks thought of all these different nuances about what a world would look like in a Zombie apocalypse. The political challenges, how the military had to drastically change their tactics to how each culture dealt with the challenge of fighting the zombies.
Great book. I can't decide if I love it so much because I have already bought into the HBO series.
Great book about a great president. The obstacles Truman had to face as president were unprecedented. How many presidents could have negotiated the U.S. through such difficult times.
Philosophy is not really my thing, but this is perfect for teenagers to get a good basic understanding of philosophy in the least painful manner.
He has some great ideas. Every American should be exposed to his ideas. It is clear that the constitution was meant to change as our country grew.
I'm torn on this one. I couldn't put it down because I couldn't wait to see what happened to Joe Chip. But it made me very, very stressed. Like maybe something was going to happen to me? Sometimes it was very confusing trying to figure out where Dick was taking me. I would suggest it based purely on the fact that it is very suspenseful and unlike any book I have ever read. Thanks Paul.
Great story for kids. The feel of the book is a mixture of Harry Potter and 39 Clues.
Great survey course book for Modern European History. Reading it again.
Much better than the 2nd book. I'm actually comfortable with the ending. Can't wait to see the movie version of the book.
Good book. I love how Terrill kept comparing Modern China to Ancient China.
Pretty good book. I'm actually more interested in the background story of how Panem was formed. But the Hunger Games is pretty exciting. Hopefully the'll do a good job on the movie.
Very disappointing. Way too much time spent in the arena. I want more info on District 13 and the rebellion in the other district. I would probably cut half of this book out and added it to the 3rd book.
An amazing book on race relations and how racism, both in the United States and Japan, fueled war policies and goals during World War II. This is a must read for anyone interested in the Pacific War during World War II.
Very scary account of Hitler's power grab in Nazi Germany. The picture of Nazi Germany painted by Larson made me sad that humanity could allow behavior like that to openly occur. It is also clearly a lesson to never allow political parties to arm themselves.
Dodds saw things before many of the other State Department officials. I was stunned that some U.S. government officials even entertained the idea of working with Nazi Germany.
I was also shocked by the behavior of his slutty daughter.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know what it would have been like to live in Nazi Germany as a U.S. citizen.
I liked it but I was disappointed. I kept waiting for something big to happen, but no! I was left wanting more in the end. Fortunately I like history and I enjoyed reading about the interaction of the Japanese and English, but come on, give me more James!
This was a very interesting book.
I loved it. But then I love historical fiction. I could of had less romance and more history.I got a real feel for the time period and it really hit me how so many people in England were pro-Bolshevik revolution. Too bad they were mislead by Bolshevik secrecy and propaganda. Great read and can't wait until the next volume come out.
