Poorly advertised and so not what I wanted to read at the time. I didn't realized that apart from one dead monster on the first page the, "monsters" of Templeton would be typical chick-lit (I can say that w/o sounding sexist because I'm a chick) metaphorical monsters. Booooring!
While the book has its merits and I'm a James Fenimore Cooper fan, I rated it low for wasting my time with false pretenses.

An entertaining read, but, honestly, if neither you nor your editor knows how to properly use italics, do not use them at all. I was a late bloomer in appreciating the merits of punctuation, so you know something's off if I raise a complaint about it.
Meh. I want to love it, I really do. Not even half way through, but if I had another new book to read right now, it would be difficult to continue with this...
After the first two books, I gradually lost interest in this series, but the first two were SOOOO GOOD.
I rushed through this book impatient for them to get to Fillory, which I believe should have taken up a larger portion of the book. The only thing that really kept my interest piqued was a brutal and perfectly executed classroom scene with The Beast early on.
