An interesting book if you want to learn to play the ancient japanese card game named hanafuda.

A Haiku Journey: Bashos Narrow Road to a Far Province (Illustrated Japanese Classics) by Matsuo Bashō
It is about a journey Basho undertook in ancient Japan with one of his pupils. During the way they encounter very different kinds of people and all occasions are a reason to make poetry. The book is full of haiku style made by the poets along their way.
It is interesting to note the title of the book is a Narrow Road to a Far Province, a journey you can do nowadays in 3 or 4 hours at least and took Basho a few days.
The book is very short and is bilingual, what may be interesting only if you have some knowledge of the japanese language.
I recommend it if you like japanese style poetry, ancient literature and history and a bit of humor along the way.

A compilation of some interesting short stories from japanese writer Jun'ichiro Tanizaki. I wouldn't recomend it to a sensible audience though as some of the stories are a bit harsh in my opinion. I would recomend it to a mature, not too susceptible audience instead.
It is a compilation of some simply strategies that can be used when trying to speak the japanese language.
Divided in "13 secrets"! The name is a bit funny since they are not so secret at all and a kind of common sense for any language student.
The book is interesting owever as a means of reviewing, specially if what you are looking for is mainly to be able to speak some japanese and cause some impression on your audience.
I would not qualify it as a serious study about the japanese language and I don't recomend it if what you are looking forward is a serious study of the japanese grammar. You will not find it here.
If you already have some knowledge of the language and want to learn a few strategies to go a step foward then it may be of some interest.

The autors bring some examples of the problems you may face when atempting to speak the japanese language for the first time.
In an humorous tone it is a compilation of some most common mistakes made by foreigners (mainly english speakers) when they try to make themselves understood in japanese.
Most examples are based on real life events although the names of the people are changed for privacy reasons.
Mainly they are from foreigners on live in Japan since short time.

I have a bunch of those comics. They are copy in the japanese style, only difference is the translation of the dialogues to english and the way you read the book (from left to right).
The story is somewhat based in real context and some cultural points are visible, what's very interesting and pleasing for a fan of the japanese culture.
As for the plot, it doesn't vary much. The basic story (even if a compeling one) of father and son in a quest for vegeance and survival.
I think what is more disapointing is the fact that the fighthings don't vary much, he kills them all (in the style of a japanese samurai movie). In fact the story telling is very cinematic what in a way makes some of the interest of the comic.
With a more deep plot I belive it could be better, but in general and since you can't find much of this kind in translation I think it's a good try.
To know the all story you need to have all the books anyway.

Loved it. Loved the description of the cat and how he is portraied in the novel. The relationship that estabelishes this love triangle is amazing. How both women are so geously of the little cat Lily and how the man perceives that. Truly geniously. The two other short stories are fine, but not compared with the first one in my opinion.
