Second Printing of Second Edition, Holy Trinity Monastery, Jordanville, New York, 1997
A really half-baked effort. The Antiochian Archdiocese is capable of doing much better.
American Bible Society, New York "God's Word for a New Age". Printed in the United States of America. Eng. Bi. KJ053-53C-53A-series, ABS-1984-15,000-D-1. Originally bound in stiff black leatheret, this 5.5 x 8.5 x 1.5-inch volume is smythe-sewn and lays flat when opened, and is printed in a legible font on ivory-colored bible paper with decent opacity and the text block has held up well to regular use. When the original covers finally began to come completely off, this copy was rebound in genuine calf's leather in 2016 and embossed with owner's initials, DMJ. The book has an appendix of 300 alternate readings, a list of words which have changed meaning, and eight color maps of bible lands. The text has been lightly marked up to indicate the Eastern Orthodox Old Testaments readings for the Eves of Christmas, Theophany, Annunciation and the several services of Holy Week, and the Book of Psalms has been marked in pencil to indicate the divisisions of the Orthodox psalter.
Russian Bible Society editon (a second printing in 2001 of the 1993 edition), with the blessing of the Holy Governing Synod. This edition has larger print and is easier to handle than the ABS edition I used to own. The well-bound, 6.5 x 9.75 x 1.75-inch book is sturdy, smythe-sewn, lays flat when opened, and is printed in a legible font on reasonably opaque cream-colored onionskin paper. It should stand up well to regular use.
"Reference and Explanatory Dictionary to the [Church Slavonic] Psalter", with reference to the Septuagint Greek and St. Jerome's Vulgate translation. A wonderful resource for the translator or, really, for anyone interested in delving into the meaning of the psalms, used extensively during the translation of "A Psalter for Prayer".
