I won a copy of this book fro Early Reviewers. I very much enjoyed this book and read it swiftly in one sitting. It was easy to like the character of Davey and his awakening awareness of the prejudice in his world. I do wish the author had developed the relationship between he and Daniel and Rachel more, but truly like the wiring and the story.

I won this book from Early reviewers. I really enjoyed this book. I found myself invested in the character of Charlotte and her relationship with the boys and their parents. I think the author did an excellent job making the characters beli ed veable and I found myself thinking of them after the story was finis g ed.

A nice reminder that gratitude expressed is a gift we give that gives back. _I do wish the author had developed more stories from his life circumstance

Really great book ; a story of a not-so-random act of violence that happens to a family which, though happy, have already had it's share of difficult times. The author does a great job of shaping the characters-nearly 3/4 of the book takes place before the tragic event.... So you really have attached to the characters and that makes the shock real to the reader

While I can't say I did not like this book, I was disappointed that the plot was so thin. But with that said, the musing and thoughts of the narrator were interesting enough to keep me reading to the end. I do feel this author has great potential, and the jacket says this is the first book and the author is just 21 years old. So while I didn't love it, I can see where this guy could write a really great book.

I didn't really like this book as much as I had hoped. The story is about a woman who puts an add in the paper for women interested in bonding. She becomes close with one of those woman.
The author seems to be a good writer, and there are parts that were really good, but overall I felt the story was thin, (the women's group is never really mentioned save for the 1 chapter of the first meeting). Also, the main 2 characters are hard to relate to for me. They seem selfish and rude and I just didn't develop any concern for them nor the story.

I have a feeling that this author could do a good job with a novel, but this, sadly, isn't it.

A beautifully written book. Interesting, compelling and touching. I loved the story of the girl trying to fit in a strange country and also on the level of being poor and trying to deal with her shame surrounding those circumstances. Then, I was enthralled by the love story. And surprised by the twists in the last few chapters. Very recommended!
I totally loved this book - it is touching, funny, gripping and well written - it makes you cry more than once, but is "feel good" too. The story keeps you reading, and is both deep and light at the same time. A Definite must-read if you like a good book and/or love Dogs
Really loved this book - could barely put it down. The premise of the story is the "meeting" of 2 beings in crisis - one a pit bull who was rescued from a fighting ring, the other an ex high-powered executive, whose fall from grace in the corporate world triggers the loss of his family and social world as he knows it. The story is beautifully well written and is deep with meaning without becoming "sappy". I highly recommend this read; If you liked "the Art of Racing In the Rain" I can't imagine you wouldn't love this also.
I was surprised how much I enjoyed this - usually not one for "mystical" or fantasy plots, but this story just enchanted and charmed me after the first chapter - I read the entire book in one session. It made me recall the Twilight book, (which incidentally I did not like), but not so dark or violent. The parallel stories both were very interesting - and though I guessed the "mystical" secret early on; I still couldn't wait till it was revealed!
I really enjoyed this book, and I am normally not one to bother with short stories or, as this book is, collections of essays. However, the author has such an clear, down-to-earth voice that it was impossible not to like this book. It feels like you are just sharing time with a friend. Her observations on aging and life in general are easy to relate to, and her keen sense of wit and humor are enjoyable. I would recommend this book!

Another excellent book by Tropper - thought not my favorite of his. Tropper's dialogue always flows, and his characters thoughts are insightful. Tropper is always a recommended read-can't wait for the next realease since I have gone through all his books now.
I enjoyed this story. I liked the authors style and thought the dialogue rang true. The characters were more than one-dimensional, the story interesting. I would have rated it higher, probably, if the story had been developed just a bit more and the book was a little longer; that could easily have been done by developing some of the characters more deeply (the mother and father, the elderly neighbor) All-in-all though, it was a well-written and compelling read.

I liked this book, although some of the story seemed somewhat unbelievable. I did like the writer's voice and the story didn't go in a predictable path.

way too many characters, theories, and plot twist - I ended up not sure what was happening, and then just not caring..
Didn't enjoy as much as I thought I would - too slow for me - I only started to enjoy this about 3/4 of the way through to book and it is only 280 pages in large print edition! Not a book I would recommend to anyone.

Wow - from an author who never fails to make me laugh I was shocked at how many times I was moved to tears in this book...I loved it! Can't wait to see the movie, as it lends itself to a screenplay so well. The characters are touching and authentic. My absolute favorite by Tropper!
Another super enjoyable read from Jonathan Tropper - not as laugh-out-loud funny as some other books of his, but amusing just the same. Very easy to read - I read it in one sitting. The story of a recent widower, the step son he inherits, and his crazy family. Very honest, sometimes extremely touching. It is the kind of book that makes me remember why I love to read.
Great book - I loved the relationships between the characters; they could be very touching. The writing was very good. Didn't see the movie as I am always disappointed if I have already read the book.
a beautiful book that I literally can't find words to review - I loved it that much! Have told anyone and everyone I know who enjoys reading to pick up this book - have given it as gifts numerous times. The story was exciting, touching, surprising, and more. The writing was top-notch! READ IT!
This is a tender, poignant, and beautifully written book. The story of Siamese twin sisters, it is touching, interesting and entertaining. I found this hard to put down and cried at several turns throughout the book. Thought provoking too - imagine being boiling mad at your sister - not too hard to do, but then imagine she is physically joined to you...it's interesting how the sister deal with issues like this. One of the few books I would re-read
I love Jodi Picoult's books, and this is no exception. The thing I like best about them is that they are so gripping I am always wanting to read "just one more chapter", I also like the way each chapter unfolds the story from a different characters viewpoint. This author is always easy to read and I have never read a work by here I did not enjoy
I enjoyed the boo, though it was not as good as I had anticipated. There was so much detail about the day to day life, that the actual tale of the mother being accused of being a witch didn't really start till half way through this book. I was hoping for more of a page turner and character development, but was disappointed in that vein. Still, it was well written and interesting.
I loved this laugh-out-loud book - and even the parts that didn't make me laugh out loud, made me smile! It isn't easy to make the death of your father and sitting sivah hilarious, but this book does it. I am amazed that the author could be so consistently witty. Reading this book was like spending time with a really funny friend - like if your best bud was Ellen Degenerous or Jerry Seinfield. I am on a quest now to read everything by this author
This book turned me on to Marcus Sakey; I think he is a very talented author . The premise of the book is about youthful friends who did petty crime together. A robbery goes awry, and one of the friends gets caught and does jail time - the other gets away free. Years later the ex-con comes looking for his old friend, with complications. It is the classic struggle when you get too far into a situation you didn't want to be in. I have read all Sakey's books to date, and have not been disappointed yet. He writes so well, that the characters really come to life for me - I have great visualization on them, and I can always "see" the books as if I am watching a movie - I think he should do screenplays. I would recommend any of his books
I really loved this book. The story was fairly simple, but the dogs musings were sometimes profound. There is a lot of philosophy in this little book. It is also extremely touching - I have read it 3 separate times, and though I know exactly what happens, I never fail to cry in several places, and can barely get through the last few pages each time. I'm not sure why, but the writing style just fits so well. I read so much that I often forget the actual story of many of the books I have read, and can sometimes only remember that I liked/disliked a book, but then can't remember enough to tell someone else what the book was even about.
This book, however, is one I know I will always remember in detail.
I never miss a chance to recommend it to anyone!
