What a wild read. In this installment (Harry Bosch Book 9), Harry now has his private investigator license and is on a mission to solve one of the cases he was unable to close while on the job.
With Mr Connelly's trademark gritty characters, sun baked locations, and a collection of law enforcement officers unwilling to listen to an "old timer", this story was nothing that I expected.
A multi million dollar heist, an officer murder and money marked by the FBI leads to a thousand directions this case can go culminating in a shocking conclusions.
So far, I have read a plethora of Harry Bosch and Bosch Universe books, I have loved (and devoured) each one, although I wish I had read them in the order of B Universe rather than HB World as the splits and convergences are interesting but leaves some questions.

Craziness and filled with so many “WTH?” moments it was insane
First you don't know who Jack and Jill are, then you do…only to realize you don't. Not at all. Guessing all the way through. Who is Jack? Who is Jill? Really?
Twists and turns doesn't even describe this storyline. First you know Jack and Jill are the killing duo, then you don't, then you do, it's hard to keep up.
Alex cross, doctor -detective is back, and maybe he's found a new love interest while searching for killers.
Boom, nothing is as it seems. This was a crazy, twisty storyline.
Even after I closed the book for the night I was thinking about it

I cannot say enough about this book. It is filled with heavy metal references, some of which I “got” and even more that I didn’t. I listen to Dean Martin and the Rat Pack more than any other style of music now, but still have been known to “Rock Out” or fill my ears with pop music.
The first time I read “Metallic Dreams”, I will say I was shocked but impressed. The storyline was something fresh and original. I had my eyes opened to a whole different perspective, to say the least. The hero had trials and tribulations, tragedy and triumph, the characters were well- developed and the dialogue was believable and modern. It was graphic and poignant, sweet and raunchy. It was like nothing I had ever read before.
At time of writing this, I have already read Metallic Dreams 3 times and each time I find another bit that speaks to me. Witches, the Devil, Metal Gods, youthful high-jinx and mature decisions. I got a taste of growing up in Scotland as a young boy (which I am not and did not obviously) and into the mind of an aspiring heavy metal legend. I saw the bonds between friends get stretched and strengthened in my mind’s eye.
As a warning, there are a few scenes that might be shocking to some readers, there were a few occasions that I did not like (on a personal level) a few characters at various points but it was not that I didn’t like how they were written. Rather, they were written so well that I could imagine they were real people show more with real personalities and flaws.
I don’t doubt that this book will resonate more with male readers and heavy metal fans than other demographic, but I urge everyone to step out of your genre comfort zone and read this tale of magic, strength, dreams and redemption, but only if you are not easily shocked or offended.
RECOMMEND?
I recommend this to Scottish readers, lovers of heavy metal and anyone who has an affinity for bathroom humor.

This book is much like Greg Gutfeld, filled with sarcasm and snark.
I have been an avid watcher of Mr. Gutfeld’s television shows since the days of Red Eye, which Fox News aired at 3am EST starting in 2007. I have followed his shows across the TV schedule because I find him funny and even being sarcastic and utilizing satire he makes sense
GG uses satire, sarcasm, humor, and examples to point out the silliness of the liberal left, conservative right and both sides need to divide us as a society. Throughout “The Joy Of Hate”, he takes aim at both ideology sides pointing out the hypocrisy and spin.
Hollywood stars, television journalists, political bloggers, educational institutions, government departments.... No one is safe from the spotlight of satire and humor that GG shines on people, politicians, various industries and events in the recent past.
The book was published in 2012 so while some of the topics are no longer current he makes excellent points.
Pointing out the hypocrisy of:

⁍Obesity and promiscuity
⁍Two women being called sluts - one a liberal the other a conservative.

Through the books, readers have been wondering how Violet is able to do what she does, experience the spooky and come through. Finally, we are getting some answers but not all. Things are coming together to give the reader more information and more meat on the bones of the stories in the series.
Because this is a series, the book ended on a cliffhanger and to be honest I wanted to start the next book right away (so I did).
Several new characters made an appearance in this installment of Deadwood Mysteries that warrant a mention. First is Freesia, who Violet had an immediate connection with as the owner of a rooming house and possible client. Second, I should mention Stone Hawk (what a moniker huh?) who is a smarmy law enforcement officer who has a not-so-great history with Coop. Lastly we meet Violet's sperm donor who elicits an immediate reaction of revulsion and wondering WTH Violet was thinking in the first place.
Violet's children play a part in this storyline but it's more peripheral than other books so far. Something tells me that won't be the case for long as a picture of Violet's son is found in a murder victim’s home.
I love this series! Each book gets better and better. Every plotline is fresh and exciting. Filled with ghosts, demons, murders and other unexplainable phenomenon, every book so far in this series surpassed the previous one.
Recommend?
I recommend this series of books to everyone....I will admit I have become a bit of a fan-girl for Ms. Charles' show more characters and this series.

On a road trip this month, I picked up The Line Between & A Single Light in audiobook from my local library. It was fortuitous because while I had read the first book in the series, I was only able to get the second in audiobook format. We had 17 hours of windshield time to fill but did not think it was fair to make everyone else in the car listen to the 2nd book in the series since they would have no idea of the backstory and why things were happening. So, my 77-year-old mother and 13-year-old daughter also listened to the audiobooks with me.
I am happy to report that all three of us were captivated by the story and it made the drivetime fly. The character development was spot on, Ms. Lee took a sheltered heroine and turned her into a true Hero, not just for women but for all the world. I loved that when listening to these books I didn't have to worry that the storyline was filled with subject matter that I was embarrassed to hear with my mother sitting next to me or that my daughter was not ready for.
Overall:
These books have everything a family could want in an audiobook series. There was snappy dialogue, fast passed action, heart breaking loss and feel-good moments.
The writing is brilliant—even after I finished the last chapter I was dying for more, I wanted to know what happened even after the happily ever after.
I don't want to go all series-fan-girl, but I really hope that Ms. Lee makes another in this series so that I can see her vision for the reboot of show more society.
Audio:
Perfect narration, very well 5-star performance. The narrator Cassandra Campbell exceeded expectations and was able to infuse each character's dialogue with perfect inflection.

I vaguely remember seeing the movie with Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd, so even though I had a bit of an idea about the storyline I didn't really know anything substantive about the plot.
I sped through this book. Every chapter built suspense and tension. I rooted for Dr. Detective Alex Cross and Kate McTiernan both as protagonists and as a couple. The dynamic of these two characters helped move the story.
Mr Patterson writes complex and well developed characters that become flesh and blood on the page. I could feel the horror and terror while reading the crimes the victims are subjected to and law enforcement sees.
So many tangled lines of the story, so many twists, so many mysteries. A masterpiece of the genre. With some heartbreaking losses, and breathtaking rescues, this book is non stop action, mystery and suspense. You will be guessing until the end who Casanova is behind his mask.
With a strong female character, this book is a must read and gives hope to anyone who has been affected by crime of any mandatory magnitude.

A million years ago, I watched The Bone Collector movie with Angelina Jolie and Denzel Washington. For years I had put off reading the book because I loved the movie. I thought it was terrific and didn't know how it could have been improved with the book’s description of the action. I was wrong.
The chemistry of the actors in the movie was there in the book, added with the character's inner dialogue that couldn't be telegraphed to the viewer.
Of course, the reader is given loads of technical information regarding crime scene investigation, lots of 10-letter word terms and anatomical names for bones and body parts. I don't know if it is true or not, but I felt reading this book made me smarter, it at least made me more knowledge about the science of crime scene investigation.
I recommend to anyone who watched the movie, there will be information overload, but it's oh so worth it.

This book is definitely a "thinking" person read. There are an abundance of medical terms and descriptions that at times can be confusing. So much technical information I sometimes felt lost. My not being fluent in French also caused some "translation" issues.
The story was horrifying and terror inducing. Dr. Reich truly shows the horrible things humans are capable of.
If you read this thinking you will be getting the "Bones" and Seely from the television series your will be disappointed. Temperance in the books is not socially awkward and there is not Seely Booth in sight.
In Déjà Dead, the reader is introduced to American doctor of anthropology Temperance Brennan who is working with the Montreal Canada forensics department. She morphs from a forensic specialist to more of an investigator in the book. Ms Reichs does a wonderful job of allowing the reader into the main character's mind. Unlike another book I read recently, the characters that Ms Reich writes are likeable and the reader will develop a connection with them.
I will take a chance in more books in the series as I found this storyline intriguing and engrossing.

It's no secret I am Gen X. I grew up hearing stories of Woodstock; having Led Zepplin, The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac and all the huge arena bands of the 70s as the soundtrack to my chilhood and formative years. Daisy Jones and The Six takes me right back to that time. Once I had read that Taylor Jenkins Reid's inspiration was the dynamic between the Fleetwood Mac members - Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks in particular - I had to delve into this story in book form before even thinking of watching the Prime Series.
Let me say that the writing style takes time to get used to. Instead of "show don't tell" , the author breaks the rules and "tell don't show". It is writing in an interview / documentary format rather than a true narrative. It works but I feel if it was a multi person narrative fiction novel the reader would connect more with the multitude of characters.
It was an interesting read to have the characters talk honestly to the reader, explain their actions, thoughts, and motivations, but we must trust that the characters are being brutally honest, and in one character's narration, we don't really know if we believe them or not.
The story line was fresh, the delivery format was unusual. A great escape into a different era with different social structures and norms.
Recommend?
I recommend this to everyone! Gen X will be transported to their childhood, when bands were rock Gods. Boomers will relive their youthful transgressions. Millennials and Gen Z will actually show more see the craziness that was the 70s age of sex drugs and rock n roll.

Fast-paced plot with believable characters, much like Man on Ice - Book 1 in the Rake Ozenna thriller series.
The storyline evolved around a multitude of characters, but they were very well developed and written. Main character - Rake Ozenna - is an army captain - is back although after the events of Book 1, his engagement to trauma doctor Carrie Walker has ended. There is no definitive answer to the ending of the engagement but the reader can infer that the two are still in sporadic contact so there aren't a lot of hard feelings on either side.
There are many secondary characters in government roles, because many of them made an appearance in book 1, there is not a lot of confusion with who-is-what and who-does-what. There are more secondary characters added and they are done in such a way that it is not such an information dump as with the previous book in the series.
Man on Edge was loaded with geopolitical intrigue, ramifications and plot lines, just like Man on Ice. There is an overabundance of globe-hopping travel for Rake, some that pushes the edge of credulity in this fast-paced book. It seems like no one needs sleep and doesn't get loopy when going days without rest. Speaking of credulity, there are some instances where it's lucky plot twists that save characters, not truly something believable, but that is why it is fiction - things are supposed to strain the bounds of truth.
This is a very quick read as the storyline is engrossing and the plot moves very fast while show more being filled with twists, turns, blizzards and lots of horse poop.

I recommend this to everyone! All ages will get something from this action-packed thriller.

There is no definitive answer to the ending of the engagement but the reader can infer that the two are still in sporadic contact so there aren't a lot of hard feelings on either side.
There are many secondary characters in government roles, because many of them made an appearance in book 1, there is not a lot of confusion with who-is-what and who-does-what. There are more secondary characters added and they are done in such a way that it is not such an information dump as with the previous book in the series.
Man on Edge was loaded with geopolitical intrigue, ramifications and plot lines, just like Man on Ice. There is an overabundance of globe-hopping travel for Rake, some that pushes the edge of credulity in this fast-paced book. It seems like no one needs sleep and doesn't get loopy when going days without rest. Speaking of credulity, there are some instances where it's lucky plot twists that save characters, not truly something believable, but that is why it is fiction - things are supposed to strain the bounds of truth.
This is a very quick read as the storyline is engrossing and the plot moves very fast while show more being filled with twists, turns, blizzards and lots of horse poop.

I recommend this to everyone! All ages will get something from this action-packed thriller.

I love this series! Each book gets better and better. Every plotline is fresh and exciting. Filled with ghosts, demons, murders and other unexplainable phenomenon, every book so far in this series surpassed the previous one.
With a cast of zany characters, Ms Charles weaves a story that perfectly plays off the previous book's plot.
Violet spends the book trying to avoid riling Detective Cooper and stay out of jail, track down a client to complete a real estate sale, raise her twins, reconcile with her best friend and further a relationship with Doc. Violet is a busy, busy modern woman.
Loveable characters from previous books help propel the storylines forward - Everyone needs an "Old Man Harvey" in their life- and the reader gets more of the backstory regarding Violet's sister and family dynamic as well as her Aunt Zoe's love life.
A terrific installment of the Deadwood series.

I format/build books, many of them metaphysical. I personally am not a metaphysical "type" of person, more like I need to see it, feel it, touch it to believe it. But at this point - halfway through with the formatting for the conversion - I am intrigued. I am actually reading this book - WORD-FOR-WORD - which is not the way I build books. I got this ebook as a "freebie" promotion and held onto it for about a month before I started reading it. I have to say that I adored it and immediately got the rest of the ebooks in the Love at Stake series. They were witty and warm, sensual and sexy. The perfect fun read to escape. Perfect start to the series!!!
This book had amazing photographs showing the Bosnian Pyramid.
This collection of ten short stories - some might be considered flash fiction - was an enjoyable read. I had heard from his editor, Debra K. Frontiera, that his stories are in the spirit of Rod Serling of The Twilight Zone fame.
His characters are well thought out and described, even in the short story format. One of his stories - Symphony of the Freak - I would even like to see turned into a larger story.
All in all a perfect "Escape Hatch" from the mundane short fiction. His subjects bear no resemblance to the "sparkling" vampires and other "good" fantasy type characters that are on the market now. Reading these you can get a peek of the inner workings of a killer, a monster, survivors of zombie apocalypse or just the criminally insane.

Ms. Parkerson's characters were fleshed-out (no pun intended), multi-dimensional beings rather than cardboard cut-outs. The history between the two main characters was explained adding strength to the story. The sex scenes were deliciously arousing, well described and believable. The story was short, the 'action' steamy and the conclusion was a shock to me. I am a 'happily-ever-after' ending type of person, but the ending scene for this story worked well and blended beautifully with the story line.
This might have been my 'first-time' but I am sure that it will not be the last erotic tale by Ms. Parkerson that I escape into.

I found this book fun and engaging. I liked the characters, enjoyed the interaction between them and cheered on Sasha in her quest for the missing hooker. To be honest, I wanted to have a Gin & Tonic with her (Sasha). I found the dialog snappy, the action fast paced and the story-line was not something that I had read a thousand times before. Sasha reminds me of Stephanie Plum - one of my all-time favorite modern-day fictional characters - although Sasha is not so much of a disaster magnet.
Although the story-line focused on the sex-trade, I did not find it raunchy or gratuitous, rather when mentioned it was in a matter-of-fact manner and handled tastefully. The romance element was there but it was not the whole focus of the book.
All in all this was a great effort by an indie author whose books I look forward to reading more of.

I guess the best way to describe this book is semi-historical rock fiction. I thoroughly enjoyed the read, going back to a simpler time and being immersed in the music scene of 70's Toronto.
I found the characters fully formed and easily recognizable from the dialogue that was written. The two main characters are lovers and band-mates which gives some drama, heartbreak and joy.
I would recommend this book to anyone that loved the music of the 70's, who is a rock music fan, who is a Who fan, someone who is a Pete Townsend fan or someone who just wants to escape into a great read.

I enjoyed the story and when I read it, immediately I thought it was a snippet of time in a relationship. Perhaps that is my own perception, there is no statement that the two characters are long-time lovers or even in a relationship, it was just the feeling invoked from the reading.
To me the story is not vulgar and explicit for the sake of vulgarity. It was the peek into the private time of two lovers, with love and passion equally present.

I enjoyed the escape of reading ‘Forbidden Touch ’. I thought the characters were well developed and the plot was original. This paranormal romance kept me guessing and the direction of the story was not given away in the first 2 chapters. Congrats to the author on her original story line and the expansion of powers by vampires, it was a nice addition to the character development and plot.
I wasn’t impressed with part of the story line involving the love triangle, I didn’t find it believable or that it enhanced the story. I thought that the author was trying to attract some of the erotic market with this turn of events but it didn’t play out well, in my not so humble opinion. That said, the sex scenes were the perfect mix of detail – not too explicit not too tame.
I have another book of Ms. Haigwood’s that I will be reading – it’s already purchased and loaded on my Fire and phone – I have high hopes that it will exceed the expectations that Forbidden Touch generated.

Recently I read a re-do of the Rose Red fairy-tale that I grew up with. Wren Michaels took the fairy tale I loved and told it with a completely different twist. I am not someone who reads erotica often, but I loved the way that Ms. Michaels was able to take characters I once knew and reintroduce them to me.
In 'Unbearable', Ms. Michaels took Rose Red and made her a strong, independent woman who wasn't afraid to get naked and demand what she wanted from a bed-partner. A strong, sexual woman instead of the shrieking virginal violet most fairy tale heroines are. This story was a novella, but I would have liked a little more back-story. I can see great possibilities with further expanding this story and making it a full-length novel and/or series.

First let me say, I have been waiting for this book since last summer when Anne told me she was going to write a character with my name...at random times she would ask me 'what is your dream vehicle', 'what is your go-to phrase to call someone who pisses you off'? Of course because she and I have known each other for about 4 years she already knew my Diet Coke addiction, my favorite boozy drink that I 'invented' (Filthy F*ckin' Martini) and my notoriously foul mouth.
Anyway, I have been panting for this book. The editor would send me snippets then call me laughing hysterically, all the while telling the beta readers and proofers to NOT tell me anything about the book. When Anne sent it to me to layout the print edition and format the ebook files she said 'Format it don't read it' because her books seem to suck me in while I am designing them, usually one-third of the way in. So I followed the task-master's instructions, designing the print and ebooks in 7 hours - just so that I could take the rest of the day/night off and read it.
I freakin' loved this book. Deena Rae (feels strange to say this) is kick ass, take charge and competent. She is a bit lost, a bit standoffish and maybe even searching for a connection after being pretty much alone for 10 years. While being a nosy-neighbor she spies Mr. Fine Ass through her camera's viewfinder and he revs her motor.
A completely believable courtship ensues (well, at least believable for me if no one else), a bit of tit for tat and show more lots of sexual tension. The characters don't immediately jump into bed at first meeting. My favorite characters from the other Pierce Securities - Simon, Hollerman, Zack - are all there and Deena Rae holds her own against them. A female that works in a male dominated field yet still has her femininity, she is great with the guys.
There were some sticky situations, angst and some heartbreak to fuel the story-line. Anne Conley writes amazing stories, believable and lovable characters who leave you wanting more. With Bond, she delivers a heroine unusual in the realm of romance but someone you might know and actually be friends with in real life....and I am not just saying that..... show less

History, Mythology & Fantasy Make For An Engrossing Read
This Omnibus was the compilation of Marie Powell’s books Spirit Sight and Water Sight but don’t let that scare you. It’s pacing will allow the stories to unfold quickly.
I will be honest, I was worried about reading this, I am not a big YA fan but this book took history, mythology, (two of my favorite things) and wove them together with fantasy and magical elements to make a thoroughly enjoyable read.
The author included a cast of characters at the beginning of the book which helped explain all the characters.
In Book One, the main characters Hyw, who can join minds with animals and in one case a man; and his sister Cat, who can see the future in water drops, try to use the “gifts" that have come from their mother’s side of the family to help the Welsh people repel an English invasion. Such an imaginative story.
In Book Two, Hyw learns more of his gifts power while Cat uses hers to find 3 historical relics to bring the Welsh people together. Both characters have a love story written throughout that slowly expands over the course of both books.
All in all, this omnibus was worth the time to read, it completely entertains weaving real historical places, events and people with fantasy, mythology and Celtic lore.

The author’s imagination is terrifying in the direction he takes on the lengths America’s enemies will go through. Could it happen? I don’t know, but the possibility is enough to keep you reading and keep you awake long after the book is finished.
The characters reappear in 2 more books in the series and I am anxiously waiting to read them and maybe find something that will put to rest the worries this series as awakened.

Again, this book is not like the series. Although the book is not set in our present day, it holds up, the storyline is complex and engrossing.
In The Black Ice, Hieronymus Bosch is back on the job in this second book in the Bosch series by Michael Connelly.
In The Black Ice, it's Christmas Eve and Harry is on call for the Hollywood Homicide desk of the LAPD but when a body is discovered in a flop motel, Harry is left out.
Once again we see that Harry is considered an outsider in the department but at least for this book, he's not under investigation by IAD.
The storyline of The Black Ice deals with narcotics, narcotic undercover officers, dead bodies, and drug smuggling from both Hawaii and Mexico. Harry shows himself to be a bit of a lonely man player, with two lovers. The encounters are not over the top in description with the perfect amount left to the imagination.
Under all that is a dead cop and another cop who decides to pull the pin causing his caseload onto Bosch.
As with The Black Echo, LA is a character, that is not as in-depth as in the first book but Connelly does a good job of describing the border town and Mexican town where part of the story unfolds.
The Black Ice is a good sophomore effort, an excellent story with many moving pieces that the author weaves together seamlessly.
Recommend?
I do recommend reading the Bosch books if you loved the Prime series and even if you didn't. The intricacies and different threads have to be followed to unravel the mystery that show more is expertly tangled and then followed.

Harry shows himself to be a bit of a lonely man player, with two lovers. The encounters are not over the top in description with the perfect amount left to the imagination.
Under all that is a dead cop and another cop who decides to pull the pin causing his caseload onto Bosch.
As with The Black Echo, LA is a character, that is not as in-depth as in the first book but Connelly does a good job of describing the border town and Mexican town where part of the story unfolds.
The Black Ice is a good sophomore effort, an excellent story with many moving pieces that the author weaves together seamlessly.
Recommend?
I do recommend reading the Bosch books if you loved the Prime series and even if you didn't. The intricacies and different threads have to be followed to unravel the mystery that show more is expertly tangled and then followed.

When I was younger, I loved reading Sidney Sheldon’s books. Mostly they are quick reads, fast paced and give glimpses of uber-wealthy. Of course I had read Master of the Game when it came out in ’82, and I have read it multiple times since. It holds up well even if society and social mores have changed, but the main reason I picked it up to re-read was so that I can read the sequel which Mr. Sheldon’s estate gave Tilly Bagshawe the right to write.
Because this book spans multiple generations and centuries Mr Sheldon has some problematic verbiage when describing life in the late 1800s and early 1900s but there is nothing overly gratuitous about it.
All in all this is a great story with loveable and hateable characters, lots of “meat”, angst and psychopathic undertones.
Highly recommend to those who wish to read a right storyline with no unnecessary fluff.

For years, I have heard of James Patterson's wonderful books and have watched a couple of the movies based on his books - Along Came A Spider and Kiss the Girls were amazing. However I wanted to start off with one of his stand-alone books rather than get involved with yet another series at the moment. (The Alex Cross books are on my TBR list, perhaps after I finish the Bosch Universe).
This manuscript started off with a bang, literally, the main character gets shot by the antagonist.
The protagonist is John Stefanovitch and he is an NYPD Lieutenant, and the opening chapter starts with John being part of a task force tasked with taking down "The Grave Dancer".
This story has twists and turns, some believable if you are one of those who believe it is possible for a Criminal Cabal that has their fingers in the underworld around the globe.
One thing I had a problem with was that after Stefanovitch is shot, he does not take disability, he continues to be a police detective. Suspending belief in this took a little work on my part. But while the Detective is physically impaired he is still able to investigate and use his mind and connections. This plot device was years ahead of its time as it showed the physically disabled are still able to contribute to society.
I did love that while this is not a romance or a subgenre of romance, there is a romantic element to the storyline.
Recommend?
If you like your police procedurals hard, your characters fully fleshed out and your criminals show more truly evil, this book is for you!
