"Pickswicks Plan" is a charming children's fable introducing the reader to Pickwick, a tiny pixie who gets an idea from the IdeaRoolus Blick and goes on an adventure with OctoDoll and the Emperor Angelfish to rescue their friend, Goodful. Along the way problems arise and they make new friends such as Harky the shark. Each character’s introduction moves the story forward nicely. All this takes place in Pixie Town, a land filled with imagination and wonders for the reader to discover!
This enchanting story will entertain children and adults alike. In a land where smiles tame sharks and villains are defeated by laughter, the author weaves a positive message with humor and fun. I couldn’t help but smile as I read this story! I especially enjoyed the illustrations, which are creative and colorful and enrich the overall entertainment value of the narrative. The character names and concepts are witty and fun, like Gubber Nodder who nods with a mouth filled with chocolate syrup that might splatter or the Prock, a bird that barks to wake everyone up. Lovers of fables and fairy tales will want to pick this up. I look forward to reading more of Pickwick's adventures and recommend it to parents looking for refreshing new stories to read to their children! My favorite quote from the book: “The amazing thing about a smile is that, once you wear a smile, the darkness lightens, and one does not feel frightened or sad show more anymore!” show less

Tales of the Booga Dooga Land: The Wormus, by Deepak Menon, is a creative children’s story with the kind of silliness that keeps a child’s interest. When the Wormus awakens from his hundred-year sleep, he begins to eat everything in sight. The Silver Dragon can’t stop him with his fiery breath. No one knows how to stop this giant creature that will consume the entire land of Booga Dooga, especially the Pixies, because they are sweet and delicious. Father PixKix has a better idea and goes to the house of the tiniest Pixie in Pixie Town, Pickwick. Pickwick and his sidekick Octodoll rush to the sight of the destructive Wormus who is eating the Silver Mountains. Pickwick realizes that he has to come up with a proper PLAN in order to deal with the Wormus. Pickwick and Octodoll make a PLAN and return to stop the Wormus before he reaches Pixie Town. They find themselves face to face with the hungry Wormus and their PLAN is ready.
Deepak Menon has created something that is perhaps a candidate for a children’s classic. The double meanings that he uses for phrases like “catching one’s breath” or “losing one’s temper” add a silly twist that also gives a few gentle lessons in life. The creativity of the entire land and the larger story within which this one particular episode is set is well thought out and creates a vivid picture for the mind of a child. When a comet was found to be headed straight for a collision with the planet Kriel, two spacecraft were created to save selected people who would propagate the race wherever they landed. One of the spacecraft landed on Rukana and the other on planet Earth. A bracelet and a scroll with some weird symbols on it were given to the commander of each ship. On planet Earth a million years later, two anthropologists find the bracelet and the scroll. Together with John Kriel, a multimillionaire author, they spend years trying to decipher what the bracelet and the scroll mean. On the other hand, a great flood devastated the whole of Rukana, and for a few years Ruhan and Karala think they are the only survivors. How will the bracelet change the course of the lives of these two sets of people in Skymerge by Deepak Menon?
Deepak Menon is a very creative writer with a vivid imagination. He created an exceptional setting and excellent characters in Skymerge. All the scenes were portrayed well and reading it was enjoyable; it was like being on the adventure myself. It was written simply and clearly. The battle scenes in Soh-na were done really well; I can almost see and hear the cannons. I love the way Rukana and the complex were described, with all the high tech gadgets and teleportation devices. The characters are fun, strong-minded and believable. The plot of the story made me keep show more guessing and I loved all the surprises that sprang up while reading. show less
