Dispatches
So very human view of Vietnam during the war. An engaging memoir of Mr. Herr's experiences there. I highly recommend.

Sonny's Story
An enjoyable read and a fascinating story told by a fascinating man. Love him or hate him, he is an American icon.

The Ocean At the End of the Lane
A very good story. I enjoyed it and recommend it to any one who enjoys Gaiman's work. Three more words.

Enjoyed it
It was a light, fast read but, enjoyable. Economically told myths well, suited to younger readers. Need four more words.

Best new book I've read in ages
Lawrence Gullet has told a fascinating story that's feels a little like To Kill A Mockingbird mixed with Fried Green Tomatoes. An arc that spans a girl's life populated by wonderful and real characters. Having been raised in the area where this story is set, I can say that, as implausible as it may seem, stranger things happened in that world. A very good read

This was a good read.
This rating system is flawed. This not a literary masterpiece in the sense of the classics, and probably was never meant to be. It is, however, good at what it is. It's a suspenseful thriller that will keep you wondering until the end.

A good read
I thought this was a good read. Informative. A good spark for further research. And the subject matter still resonates. To understand where we're going, we should understand where we've been.

Great haunting stories from a southern voice who is sadly no longer here.
Dated and full of filler
Stricter editing would have helped, especially in the earlier portions of the book. Clunky sentences and missing punctuation made for a slow read in places. Alinsky's use of - current at the time - slang dated the text badly. He included a great deal of anecdotal filler as well. The strategies are still sound, in a broad brush sense.

Shatterday
I felt this was a very balanced collection and enjoyed Harlan's introductory anecdotes. He is one of my favorite writers.

Good look into what the world was like in the mid-sixties. Fascinating slice of history.
An interesting read for Ripper buffs. A lot of research and minutiae ending up in speculation.
