I really enjoyed this book and couldn't put it down! The characters were memorable and the story was really interesting. I want more!
This really was a great book and was written so well you didn't really know who did it till the end. Full of mystery with a twist, I'd recommend this book, especially if you like murder mysteries!
Amazing is all I can say. If hook was actually like this in Peter pan, I'd probably like the movie alot better. I'd choose hook anyday.
I really liked this book. The story was well told and kept you enthralled with what would happen next.
I gave 3 stars for the story itself.
The music would have bumped it to a 4 star.

I enjoyed the book, but I feel that the story was so fast-paced that it didn't really feel like a thriller, romance, or suspenseful book at all.

The main conflict of the story takes place in roughly the last 100 pages of the 409 that were not song lyrics.

Anyways, this book may get people out of a reading slump because of it being an easy read and especially if you're a fan of country music.
This was an amazing book! I loved the dynamics between these characters and the storyline and world was engrossing! I felt like I was there in the town.

I found the kinda grumpy x sunshine trope here to be fantastic as well!
This book was enjoyable! I feel that the characters had parts of them that could be related to. The book was a bit slow in the middle for me, which caused me to put it down for about a week or so, but it did pick up again.

I related this book to #selfie by the chainsmokers
I didn't finish this book a couple of months back when I started it. I feel I wasn't at the right moment in time to read this.

But I started it today again from pg. 66... and finished it over the course of today.

It's a very twisty tale that left you guessing as to who the real bad guys were and what the possible motive behind everyone's moves in the book is toward themselves and each other. Overall, I loved this book because it really kept me guessing, which sometimes isn't easy to do because I can see the plot sometimes well before the book actually ends. (Also, the plot twist was like doing three corkscrews on a rollercoaster track) This book was also great for an individual who is looking to dive into a murder mystery/thriller type book. The main character did annoy me a few times because I felt she was repetitive, but the story was *chefs kiss* interesting enough to continue reading! I especially liked that this book wasn't focused solely on a clear, bad guy!
This book was a page-turner from the beginning. I really enjoyed the thrill ride this book gave me.

I first started this book wondering if it may be too intense to read at a steady pace and get through without needing to stop, switch books, and come back to this novel. However, the writing and strong story really kept you guessing as to what would be happening in the next chapter.

I did not read the first novel in this series, but I didn't feel the need to do that because I was able to understand what had previously happened and the character's backstories without needing to go back and read the first book.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and feel that I was part of the action.
UPDATE: The ending was so-so for me. However, I enjoyed the storyline and how the characters didn't automatically get along after the plot started. It was a great book about finding your strength and learning to let others in, even in the face of danger and trouble. It's a good family-esque book and a good mystery/thriller that keeps you invested in the plot. I also really enjoyed the fact that the plot wasn't guessable 100 pages in.

I am about 120 pages into this book, and it has picked up quite a bit.

When I started this book, already so much had happened. I did enjoy that the book began with a mystery already, that the reader was just dropped into the lives of the family on the paper. There were dynamics to understand already.
The stepmother and daughter cannot see eye-to-eye until they are pushed together to help solve the mystery and try to keep them all together. What could the one person they both love so dearly be hiding? How far are they willing to go to find the truth?
This book was average, but I liked the idea behind the plot.

When I went into this book, I was thoroughly expecting an edge-of-your-seat thriller. However, I ended up guessing the plot rather early on and feel like the ending may have been a bit rushed.

I liked the dynamics of the woman in the book and how her husband was caring and supportive, but towards the end, I felt myself re-reading parts of the book because I was getting lost.
Brought back childhood memories of my mom and I reading this.

Definitely a good way to bring back nostalgia!
A very emotional book that I rated 5 stars because even though it did have its flaws, maybe some of the story was not told in the best way.

But it told a story of what may go through the mind of a younger person during such a traumatic and challenging event. I cried at the end of the book, just sat in my chair and cried thinking of the lives lost trying to stay alive and trying to save others.

I was worried going into this book because of how serious the subject matter was, but after finishing it, I did feel intense grief, I also feel this book gives us a glimpse into how a horrible event like this affects not only the school but the community and the world.
This book was okay, I would say that it's a good book if you like YA chess and romance that happens because of chess.

I thought the romance between the two was sweet and I think they both worked well for each other. I used to play chess, not on this level at all, but I did own a chess set and enjoyed playing when I did. I feel like I can really pinpoint one thing about the book that I could say was the reason behind my 3-star rating.

I enjoyed the chess parts more than the rest of the story. I also feel like I read almost 100 pages before understanding any of why she disliked playing chess anymore, which before that point was her being mad at people for asking or running away from said people with chess. I think that Mal was maybe just a bit too...I can't find the right word for it right now.
This book was a beautifully written short story about his childhood memories. I loved this book because it brought back memories of myself around Christmas time. Especially of my grandma and her love of all books, but especially Christmas books.

Every year, my mom and I would buy my grandma Richard Paul Evan's book for her birthday (Dec. 9th). It was the highlight of her birthday to get one of his books. We lost my grandma in 2020 and while she's no longer here to ask if he put out a new book and if she's getting one for her birthday, I know her spirit is with me every time I carry on the tradition of picking one of his books.

So thank you for writing such a lovely book and thank you for reminding everyone what is important around the holidays.
3.5 stars.
Update: I finished it. I wanted to go into December with as little half finished books as possible. The ending was a twist...but I feel it was a bit rushed. Better ending than the cabin, though. Overall, it was a surprise ending, but it was quite a journey getting there.

I went into this book with such high hopes that this book had a great premise, and it did start out great. A murder happens a year later around the anniversary of the death of several classmates. The suspects are automatically the children of the killer from the previous year. I did feel it captured my attention at the start.

However, as I got to the halfway point of the book, I felt my interest falling off. Maybe it was because of some repetition or because we left Halloween behind. I will be coming back to this book, but for now, I am DNFing it, but only temporarily.
4.5/⭐️

Complex, heartbreaking, hopeful, and taking fate in your own hands.
I think this book was an excellent read.

I initially had set it off to the side as I felt I wasn't in the right state of mind to read this book (I'm still newish to fantasy).

I took this book along on vacation and was hooked on the rest of the book. I think I got lost a bit with all the characters and remembering places. But I also have a bad habit of getting ahead of what my mind processes.

I enjoyed this book, and I was really happy when the huge plot twist revealed at the end wasn't at all what I was expecting. I stayed up till 5 am reading the last 200+ pages it was that good.

The book really compared love on so many levels and how deception, betrayal, and heartbreak intertwine themselves with love. It's not cut and dry but complex and can sometimes be a sole driving force for someone.
A solid 4-star read.

I enjoyed both short novellas that helped set up the storyline. I liked the plotlines being set up for Red Queen and the rest of the main storyline.

Other than that, I can't wait to see what Red Queen will bring me.
I dont know about y'all, but I ate this up in one sitting.

This also may be partially to the fact that some of the romance reminds me of my boyfriend. But besides the point, it was very good and a quick read.

I also felt that the relationship hadn't developed seemingly overnight, there were gaps in time that were explained and I didn't mind it.
This is a re-read since I finally finished reading the second book in the Shatter Me series.

I felt I understood it better this time around. Now I understand the love for Aaron.

Anyway, still a 5/5 read.
I loved this book and only rated it 4 stars solely because it had a slow start.

How far would you go to save your sisters and yourself from tragedy?

Hands down, I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a strong female lead, some romance sprinkled in, a good spooky element, curses, and more twists than an Auntie Anne pretzel! I love the sea and anything to do with water and sea creatures. I also really liked how the Gods and legends were sprinkled throughout.

My favorite characters hand down have to be Annaleigh and Verity. Annaleigh was the perfect lead for this book, seeing more than just accidents with her sister's deaths, she starts a mission to find out who or what may have done it and why.

Great immersive storytelling combined with a backdrop of glittering seas and enchanted legends all lead to the discovery of secrets and challenges!

I really loved this book and feel that it is a great starter for fantasy, with romance as a subplot!
I absolutely LOVED this book! 4.5 stars!

A Contemporary, Romance, Fantasy, with a touch of paranormal-themed book that gave found family vibes, while bringing a sense of realistic magic. I enjoyed the storyline of this book and found the romance was beautifully written, both sweet and passionate at the same time.

“You can’t just hope for happy endings. You have to believe in them. Then do the work, take the risks. Slay the dragon—though I really think dragons get a bad rap—kiss the princess, or the frog, defeat the bad witch.”

There was also an amazing thread of unbreakable bonds between the characters and support.

"Blood calls to blood"
“of you, you’re mine, and that’s a gift I’ll always treasure. Every one of you is a gift to me, a blend of friends and family that’s stronger and truer and brighter than anything I ever imagined having. So, to all of us, together.”

The main character Iona is so sweet and one of my favorite characters. She is relatable because of how she is looking for a place to belong in life after not belonging in her family. She is told one day by her Nan that she is part of a legacy of magic from their family homeland in Ireland. I also loved how fiercely everyone, especially Iona, loved, cared for, and wanted to protect those that they held dear.

"We are a circle, trusting and without chinks" (something like that)

The scenery set for every aspect of the book was beautifully done and I felt like I was there and experiencing everything show more along with the characters.

There were only a couple of times when I felt a slight disconnect between the book and how the story was progressing. It did take me about 60 pages to get into the story and that was only because I was surprised about how everyone in the book that heard she was a witch was so accepting, but that is because I am used to fantasy books where it takes a bit of time for everyone to get used to magic. It may have also been the fact that the book felt like it had a more realistic setting and I always think that magic has to be from someplace with a fantasy name and magical creatures walking around in commonplace.

However, this book is a great way for readers to get out of a slump or if they wish to get more into fantasy and contemporary romances because the book is only 344 pages versus more recent fantasy books are upwards of 600+ pages.

A twisty and suspense-filled ride that will leave you guessing what everyone's role in the plot is. I enjoyed this book, the last 100 pages I couldn't put it down and binge-read it!

I rated it 4 stars because of how the middle seemed to drag, but it was only for a couple of chapters. Otherwise, I was surprised at the plot twists in the book and thoroughly enjoyed that the plot reveals were not at all what I had been guessing before.

A chance encounter between two women, one proposing they help each other out and off each other's husband. Women should help each other out, right?

Tasha and Madison are both women driven to do whatever it takes to live their own lives. Each feels that their husbands have hampered their ability to live how they want. However, where Madison is cunning, ruthless, and selfish, Tasha is trying to save her son as much as herself.

"Don't back me into a corner Madison. You won't like me when you do"

Tasha's character development over the book is amazing. This was probably my favorite development from a character in a book. She realizes just how strong she is and how she really can stand on her own two feet

If anyone is looking for a thriller/suspenseful book to read that isn't too long then this is the book for them. This book could also help get you out of a slump because of how the story is so well written.
I was expecting more from this book, but I was kinda disappointed in it. I would have DNFed this book, but I'm stubborn and was not going to let the first book of 2024 get me.

There are a few spoilers on the subject matter covered in the book, but pretty much what you read on the sleeve of the book is what you get in the book.

First to address the same thing that several others have commented on. Yes, the part when she is talking to her friend Madison about setting Brent up with someone from town was distasteful in how it was set up and executed. I understand that this is a touch on the real world, but having the main character do it in a Christmas book that was described as being like the perfect Hallmark movie was terrible. I have seen ALOT of Hallmark movies and not one of them has the main girl gossiping about another behind their back. I don't think that they should gossip about another woman and commenting on her weight and smell was unnecessary.

*inhale* okay, now to get into the rest of the book.

In some places, it was so fast that I was still trying to understand what I had read while the book moved on to something else. I also felt that the romance in the book was so rushed that I commented on it in one of my updates. The characters had like two interactions in the whole book up till the last 5 chapters. Then suddenly they are madly in love! I also felt that the book was all over the place and there were 5 different themes running at the same time.

If this book show more had been given about 50 more pages, just 50 pages...that slingshot romance would have made more sense. show less
I read this book earlier in January and I am sorry that it took me weeks to get a review written for it. I wanted to do justice for this book and not just write something off the top of my head, I wanted to reread my favorite parts and give my heart's feeling on the book. So here is my somewhat in-depth review...hopefully, I won't spoil too much magic for you!

I loved this book from start to finish and I think I loved it more than the first book in the duology and that is difficult to do because of how much I loved the first one.

Before I review, there may be mild spoilers (quotes, etc.) below and check triggers before reading as some of the spice is on the darker side.

A book about love, being who you want to be, naughtiness, and realizing that sometimes happy endings do come true.

This is a continuation of Plug and Claim and follows the main characters Kira and Nathaniel, told in dual POVs. This story picks up where the last one finished as Kira flees from the one she was falling for. This book further dives into who Kira is exactly and her past as well as what Nathaniel's role in it is. As the story progressed, Kira found out not only who she was and what she was capable of, but what her feelings for Nathaniel were.

Kira is a badass, plain and simple. She's the FMC we all dream of reading about, not trying to change who she is to please everyone. Even in the spicy scenes, she still has some fight in her. She knows what she needs to do and knows what sacrifices and show more challenges will be faced and needs to be made. She's not afraid to be herself and that makes her and Nathaniel a major threat to the tyranny currently happening. "No way. I have mind control?"

Did I say how much I love these characters?

"I was in awe of you" "Tonight, tomorrow, forever--that is when I want you Kira"

Let's just take a moment to appreciate the vampire prince Nathaniel. Such a well-written MMC, he captured the essence of a strong male presence that supports his badass, *cough* girlfriend *cough*, woman. He's also not afraid to sacrifice himself to save her and we all love a morally grey guy who will burn everything down around her if it will save her, even if it curses him in the process.

(Can I punch Mark myself?)

The storytelling and character development was amazing and I felt all the pain, joys, and heartbreak each character experienced. I know SPICE was a major part of the book (it's called a steamy romance book for a reason), but I felt that it was well-written and it in some ways showed the character development or under(never gonna)development (looking at you Henrrick!). To me personally, as the book developed, the spice developed too. In the end, it wasn't about spicing for the spice of it (see what I did there) but it had a deeper level of trust between the MCs. They had been to hell and back and even though parts of them may not be quite the same, they completed each other and they had each other.

So, safe to say I loved this book. There was spice, plot twists, angst, heartbreak, and romance. Everything you could ask for in a book. I am sad that the series is technically over as it was a duology, but I'd read every book I could.

Thank you Darcy Fayton, for such an amazing book.

I mean....why choose? *chefs kiss*

I did think that the main character was a bit much when she was avoiding Gideon and not believing her uncle was a bad guy.

Just wanted to shake her and say "You love Gideon, don't fight him, so just go with it"

Also, the spice scenes were hot and well worth the read!
ARC Read 5/5 Stars
4/5 for spice

Fated-mates, coming-into-her-own-strength female lead, found family....just *chefs kiss*
**would check any triggers as this is an adult book and there are some spicy scenes**

I loved reading this novella! I feel that Dasher helped to keep me out of a reading slump, so much so that I read it in one sitting.

The setting for the Artic Room and Criminal are gorgeously written and makes it easy to imagine yourself in either of these clubs. I also liked how Krampus and Dasher were written. I felt like I related to Dasher, a newly chosen doe to fly Santa's sleigh, who feels like she's living a dream but at the same time doubts herself compared to the others on Santa's flyer team.

Overall, I loved the story and character development for it being a shorter novel. The plot twist also has me reeling slightly cause I NEVER saw that one coming.

It was such a sweet story and perfect if you like a little spice with your holiday!
