Journalist Stephen Mansfield gives an engaging glimpse into the history and character of these fascinating people from their ancient origins right through 2013. Much more than a chronology, this book is a first-hand encounter with the Kurds of today. They are a fiercely loyal, famously hospitable, freedom-loving people whose irrepressible will to survive and thrive is building an astonishingly prosperous oasis in the midst of the turmoil that is the Middle East.

Mansfield, who has traveled and lived among the Kurds since the 1990’s, has a great admiration and affection for them. Beginning his journey as an observer during the war in Iraq, he has become an advocate for their emerging democracy and their hope for nationhood after so many years of persecution.

This is a simply but powerfully written first-person narrative/evangel. It’s told from the perspective of the repentant thief who witnessed at the closest possible quarters the crucifixion and death of the Son of God. The account is true to Scripture and highlights Christ's amazing grace and love for sinners, regardless of the depth or length of their alienation from God. A great short read for skeptics, seekers, or believers, it is especially encouraging to those who live at the edge of despair.
