Amazing. One of the most devastatingly smart books that I have ever read.
Great underrated cookbook. I still use this all the time. My Moussaka recipe comes from here and it is one of my favorite things in the whole world.
I feel bad giving this three stars. I learned to cook with this book combined with "Joy of Cooking". Awesome starter cookbook for vegetarians but every recipe I still use has loads of penciled in revisions. Still, this book will always have a fond place in my heart.
This book is a masterpiece.
It's somewhat experimental fiction, and clearly not everyone likes that (see other reviews), but as a whole I have seen nothing that tackles the subject matter and time period with such attention to detail, spirit, and, well, affection. Not nostalgic -- if anything certain segments remind me too much of situations I'm glad I'm not in anymore -- but I Hotel distills the political time and place of SF in the '70s better than anything I have ever read.
This book makes the untold history of this time come alive. Best book I read in 2010.

Everybody's talking about this book now which is awesome because it's one of the best histories of Latin America imperialism ever written.
Great book. I heard bits and pieces of this story when it was happening. I wish I had paid more attention then and done something to help these folks out. One of this book's main strengths is that it lays out how hard it is for small farmers -- even if they have knowledge and resources -- to fight a government agency, even when the government is absolutely in the wrong.
Mad Sheep is a well-written book and a necessary book for anyone claiming to have solidarity with small farms and farmers.

The Great Shark Hunt: Strange Tales from a Strange Time (The Gonzo Papers Series) by Hunter S. Thompson
Probably the book (collection of essays) that made me want to write.
This is the best cheese book ever written. Hard to find (and likely very expensive) this tells the stories of the traditions of French cheese and the families who've made them for centuries. No hype or neo-foodieism, this is pure dedication and love of good cheese.
I would probably hate these now, realizing they are thinly-veiled Christian allegory, but they saved me from boredom and lonliness when I read them on a too-long family vacation back in the day. I think I read all of them in a two week period.
Because of that, they will always hold a spot in my heart.

awesome anarchist utopia/dystopia novel. One of my favorite sci-fi books ever.
God, that book was so important to me as a high school kid. I tried to re-read it though and the sexism made it really hard-going. It's one of those time-and-place books for me, crucially important but hard to recommend.
awesome. This was one of the books that got me into reading. Fascinating yet creepy, at least to a young kid.
I love all Cormier. My favorite y/a author ever.
awesome book for people interested in cheese. Some info is out of date, but this is unpretentious and knowledgeable.
