Long Haul was one of the best Diary of a Wimpy Kid books yet. Greg was expecting to have a normal summer at home. Playing games, eating a lot, just relaxing. But his mom had a different way to enjoy her summer. She wants go on a road trip, but the rest of family isn't feeling it. When She she asked Dad, he agreed because he didn't want to get on her bad side.
So now, Greg, Manny, Roderick, Dad, and Mom are going on a trip in a van FILLED with luggage which is also is Greg's seat. No AC, no stops, just venturing around. Dark came and they decided they should stop at a hotel. They stopped at the store and had to let Roderick out while the car was moving because Manny was sleeping and waking him up would be a nightmare. Mom gave him a list and Roderick came back with almost the OPPOSITE of what was on the list. So when they found a hotel, which wasn't exactly 5-stars, they found out that he got all junk food. Roderick and Greg eventually went down to the pool. And that's when they met the Beards.
The Beardos weren't bad people at all just at the pool in the hotel, they didn't want to share the jacuzzi. But then the Beardo kids found a janitor cart and were playing around with it. They were running up the hall throwing toilet paper pushing the cart. Since Greg was having building anger, he let it out on the kids. The kids felt crushed and one of them cried. He told his father, but Greg hid in his room before he was seen. The next morning Greg and the family left the hotel, show more but as they were leaving, they seen some familiar people. The Beardos are packing up. Greg is trying his best to hide from them and leave, and they leave with no problems.
The next place they went to was a fair. They were pulling when they see another purple van. Actually the same purple van. Its the Beardos once again. At the same fair, Greg tries to get out of their sight as fast as he can. He, Roderick, and Dad make it out of their sight. They eventually stuff their faces with junk food. Mom and Manny win at a booth and their prize is a PIG. The pig wasn't very welcome but Manny grew really fond of it. Mom eventually gave the pig to a small petting zoo. Manny was NOT happy. He tried to run away multiple times on the trip. The trip wasn't turning to be the best. But then Mom came with a surprise. Mom took the family to a waterpark where they really wanted to go for a long time. As they were pulling up, they see this purple van again.
Ever heard of Deja Vu? Well it was getting ridiculous by that time. they still enjoyed themselves after that. But they lost their key in one of the pools and none of them had remembered the code. But then Greg remembered the number was "922" but there was nothing in it so they blamed the Beardos. Eventually everyone bought themselves new things like phones, watches, jackets, etc.. and they went home. They figured out later that the number was actually was "292". So sad.
Well it wasn't the worst road trip but wasn't the best either. But I'm pretty sure they all had fun at one point in time. At least I had fun reading it. show less

Matilda is a little girl with a big mind. Matilda didn't have the normal life when your parents will come check on you and love you and make sure you're ok. She had parents who really didn't care at all. Matilda busied herself by reading books. She has became one of the smartest kindergarteners just by reading books. She became so smart that she developed telekinesis. At first, she didn't what do do with her new ability, but an opportunity came along. A special one too.
The school's headmistress, Ms. Trunchbull, was the meanest, nastiest, headmistresses ever existed (at least in Matilda opinion). And there she was standing in front of a whole class of little kindergarteners. While Ms. Trunchbull was giving a brutal lecture, Matilda spotted a newt in a cup full of water near headmistress Trunchbull. Matilda, testing out her power, tipped over the cup into Headmistress Trunchbull's dress. Matilda was amazed about herself but nobody else new it was her.
Later, Matilda walked with her teacher, Mrs. Honey, to her house because she was Matilda's only and favorite teacher. She was also trying to prove to Mrs. Honey that she was the reason the newt fell. Of course Mrs. Honey didn't believe at first, but then Matilda proved the she had telekinesis and tipped over the glass. Then Matilda and Mrs. Honey talked for awhile. Mrs. Honey really liked Matilda and Matilda liked Mrs. Honey.
Eventually Mrs. Honey started talking about her childhood. After that, Matilda talked about her show more family and Mrs. Honey felt bad. Mrs. Honey felt like if she adopted Matilda that they would both be happy. She said since her father died she had to have a guardian. That's why Mrs. Trunchbull talks to her like that. Patronizing her, treating her like a chew toy. Since Matilda had power she thought she could change that. So she took the information just received, she came up with a plan.
Matilda will pose as Mrs. Honey's Father, Magnus, and use her telekinesis to make it seem like his spirit came back to haunt her. Taking the bait, Headmistress Trunchbull ran and was never seen again. Matilda's family but Matilda didn't want to go. Mrs. Honey asked if Matilda can stay with her. The parents thought "Well, thats's one less child to worry about."and let Matilda stay with Mrs. Honey.
Matilda was eventually moved up into 6th grade but lost her power. Mrs. Honey believed that Matilda's intelligence mets at the 6th grade level, so her power went away. But it was okay, because Matilda made everything right while she had powers. show less
