I enjoyed reading this practical introduction to sustainability and the problem of over-production and waste in society. The section on what individuals can do to reduce waste and pollution is helpful and seems achievable.

I found this collection of poems to be lyrical, dark, and emotional. A creative, expansive vision of the author's life through words and her evolution as a poet.

I was very fortunate to receive Free Ranger Knitter as my very first Early Reviewer book. As Stephanie Pearl-McPhee writes, it is really not a knitting book, so much as a book about a knitter and those she loves. The situations they find themselves in, and how knitting has kept them together and warm, are cleverly and humorously described by the author. The essays are alternate between touching accounts, funny interludes and glimpses into the author’s philosophy on parenting and life in general.

I loved it, and my 10-year-old son enjoyed the essays I read aloud to him, especially “Glory Days.” He might not be knitting, but he found Pearl-McPhee’s use of language very entertaining and some of the situations laugh-out-loud.

Excellent instructions for shaping and basic sock construction. Great diagrams. Socks for every size foot from toddler to adult.

I think this book is great. I taught myself how to knit pretty quickly with this book, supplemented with photographs from another. The images for technique illustration are very good, but not as good as a photograph.

This book is great for a beginning knitter or for anyone who needs a little guidance. I love the fact that the photographs show so clearly where the fingers, needles and yarn go for each technique being described.
