facinating book. I learned so much about Chinese culture and recent history. Certainly not for young readers.
third book in a series- Miss Buncle's Book, Miss Buncle Married are the first two. This doesn't reach the quality of the others.
What can I say? This is just one of the most delightful books every written. A joy to read. Especially outloud.
Required reading for my ESL course. Practical, easy to follow.
A elderly Engilsh gentleman is caught in France as the Germans overrun the country. He tries to get out, and finds himself collecting children along the way.
Bought this book on a whim. Chances are I will never read it.
Two naive girls visit Europe 'on their own'. Bedbugs, dancing, interfering parents, etc.
Sequel to 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. I think I liked it even better, but its been a long time. Must read again
this one is a bit dark for Elizabeth Cadell. I don't like it any where near as much as some of the others.
read this out loud to Lisa when we were in Jerusalem. One of my favorite Agatha Christie mysteries.
witty, amusing, relaxing. A confirmed old maid decides to write a book to earn money. Because she doesn't have any imagination all of her characters are exact portraits of her neighbors. This is the story of the furor raised when the book is published.
until recently the only book of T.H. White's I have read was Sword in the Stone. This children's adventure story is interesting, easy to read, and well-written. Two children are kidnapped and held hostage on an island.
Excellent book. Had to read it for an ESL course, but would re-read it just because I found it so interesing and informative.
For optimal pleasure, read this book out loud to a group of young children. Excellent in every way!
A History of Private Life, Volume I, From Pagan Rome to Byzantium : From Pagan Rome to Byzantium (History of Private Lif by Paul Veyne
Used this book as a resource when in school in Jerusalem. Very informative and interesting.
excellent book. I love the patterns, though I have actually only completed one of them. My sister made another and I plan on using others.
and yes, it was one of my favorites a few years ago. I haven't read it for a long time, so I don't know if I would like it as much now.
a novel mostly about Harriet Vane, with Lord Peter Wimsey playing only a supporting role.
Not an easy read. :-) Dr. Seuss is best in English. Easy english does not automatically translate into easy Hebrew.
A German young man comes to spend time with his English cousins during the Second World War. He uses the seemingly innocent visit to cover a little spying on the side. Very pro-British sentiments (go figure). I love this book.
fun, imaginative, easy read. Annoying sections where the author uses her own made up languages.
