“Brown Girl Dreaming” by Jacqueline Woodson is a book that makes you really think about the world around you. She tells her story on how it was like to still be treated lower than white people and that they didn’t trust black people. As I was reading I thought about how people still haven’t changed a lot, they still don’t trust every black person. I read on the news that two black people were arrested at Starbucks because they weren’t buying anything. When I heard this I realized that people don’t always change as much as we think. I loved this book because it told a story of a girl growing up when the world was a bit harsher than it is today. When you read this book it opens your eyes to something Maya Angelou said, “We are more alike my friends than we are unalike.”

I learned that even just one act of kindness can change the world. “Pay it Forward” teaches us that we can change the world with one simple good act. No matter how old, young, short or tall we are, we are capable of anything. We don’t just change the world with our actions we change ourselves. Felicity also met her Uncle Boone for the first time, figured out a mystery that she was related to The Brothers Threadbare and what Isabella Thistle took from the Brothers Threadbare. At the very end Felicity joined the Stoneberry Dual and found out that she is staying in Midnight Gulch.
“A Snicker Of Magic”, was a story that I could definitely relate on. I have moved seven times in my life. I really liked this book because it makes you think twice of all the people that you know have moved a lot or is in the military. I also like this book because it tells a story about a girl with her sister and mom, and how she has to grow up moving everywhere, all the time. “A Snicker of Magic” also tells us that even when Felicity’s father left five years before they moved to Midnight Gulch, she is staying strong and hoping with all her heart that Midnight Gulch is her last move. “The Alchemyst”, by Michael Scott, is about Sophie and Josh Newman. One day Sophie and Josh were working at a bookstore and coffee shop when they experienced magic, golems, Dr.Dee, The Codex, Nicholas and Perenelle Flamel. When Sophie and Josh are mixed up in the battle between Nicholas Flamel and Dr.Dee, for the powerful Codex, they find out that they are part of a very powerful legend that says they can defeat the Dark Elders. Along Sophie and Josh’s journey with Nicholas Flamel, Dr.Dee steals the Codex along with Perenelle Flamel, they meet Scathach, Hekate, the Witch of Endor and Sophie unlocks her silver aura form Hekate. However, Josh does not unlock his gold aura. So, after Dr.Dee talks to Jake, he becomes jealous of his sister and doesn't trust Nicholas or Scathach. Time will tell what happens next in, “The Magician”.
“The Alchemyst”, I think is a book that involves mystery and myths. I also think that in this book the myths and stories we grew up hearing, that we thought couldn’t possibly real. However in this book they are very, very true. I liked this book a lot because it made you think and the truth is that Dr.John Dee, Nicholas and Perenelle Flamel are real. Nicholas Flamel was born in Paris on September 28,1330, he was an alchemyst and the records show that he died in 1418. However to this day his tomb is empty. So I wonder where are the Flamels really?

She lived with their father’s mother for two years until their mother came back and took them to live with their mother’s mother. Reyna’s mother came back because Reyna’s father loved another woman. It was hard because then Reyna’s mother left to be in love with another man for six long months leaving their new little sister, Betty, with Mago, Carlos, Reyna and their mother’s mother. After their mother came back and left again, eight years have passed since Reyna’s father left. Then one day their father showed up at their other Abuela house. Reyna was about nine years old. After that their father whisked them away to California where they lived until Reyna graduated high school. Their mother didn’t live to far away after a couple years that Reyna lived with her father and Reyna learned English very quickly. So, by the time she entered high school she could take english classes. After Reyna grew she would visit Iguala de la Independencia in southern Guerrero where she used to live.
The Distance Between Us was a book that I thought was about Reyna Grande and her struggles that she grew up with. I really liked the book because it showed a perspective of how where many families risked everything to live in the United States. I think show more they did this because they lived in a poor country and they wanted better lives for them and their children. While reading The Distance Between Us I thought to myself that I could never live and go through what Reyna Grande did. I still wonder what happens when children cross the border themselves, what happens to them? I am glad that when Reyna crossed that border, she made it and she lived and is living a wonderful life. I love the quote that Reyna gives when she watches her father die is something that says, dreams really can come true. Her quote is, “Every single dream that my father had for me has come true.” show less
