Night was a novel that I kind of didn’t want to read because my friend, who had read it, had told me a little bit about it. The fact that it’s a true story just makes it all the more shocking. While reading it, I found it hard to believe that it was true, because the events are just not real. It makes you feel how it must’ve felt to be living during the time of the Holocaust and how scared you would’ve been if you were forced into it. Just the thought of leaving your home to go to a place that’s completely different from what you’re used to and far away from where you once were, is dreadful to think about. The book does do a good job making you think about your life and how you feel if something tragic happened. Would you be satisfied with what you’ve done in life, or would you have regrets of what you want to fix or something you wish you could’ve done better? It makes you think about the life-changing events that can happen at any moment and change your life forever.
This book does start off a little slow, but it gets really good once you get into it. The way Chris writes the book is a little confusing and it’s hard to keep track of who you’re reading about and where it’s taking place. As for the story, I think it’s a really good plot. Chris does a good job at holding off on what you want to find out and constantly refers to it, so it makes you want to keep reading so you can finally find out what happened and why that event is so important. I love the character Little Bee because she’s so quiet, but you know she has so much to tell us if she would start talking. Her transformation is interesting to follow to see what she does to fit in, or just stay alive. Although I haven’t finished the book, I can say this is one of the greatest books I have read in a long time. One problem I have is the fact that the book does progress slowly which is why it’s hard for me to keep reading when it gets to slow parts. I’m having a hard time finishing it because of that, but from what I’ve heard, the ending should be great and I can’t wait till I finish. I should probably finish it soon until someone ruins it for me by telling me the ending. I really love this book and I would say everyone should read it.
