Flowers for Algernon is a story about a 37 year old man named Charlie Gordon. Charlie attends a night school for adults. Ms. Kinnian is the teacher of the class, she tells him about a surgery that he could take to become smarter. The surgery would make his I.Q. of 68 to 204. He takes the surgery and the first day, he is starts getting emotional, because a white mouse named Algernon races Charlie everyday through a maze and always beats him. Charlie works at a box factory, where his friends Joe, Frank and George makes fun of him. Charlie thinks that they're his friends, but they aren't. Charlie gets smarter everyday his is even beating Algernon. He also gets to keep Algernon as a pet. Later on the surgery makes Charlie smart to learn college subjects. He also learns different languages. Algernon becomes weak and can't run through the maze and dies. Charlie wonders why Algernon died. He gets a lab of his own, and does research. Charlie published a book about his research. After the research, Charlie starts to forget what he learned. He even forgets to read other languages, even his own handwriting. At the end, Charlie decides to move to another place, where no one knows that he became smart because now he forgot everything he learned.

This book is very sad. Charlie could have been smart for a longer time, if he listens to his landowner or to Dr. Strauss. If Algernon didn't die, then his life could have been happier. I think Charlie could have gotten another pet to have show more someone to talk to in his home. This book is a great book for telling people that you should keep learning to become smarter. Charlie had to take a surgery because his I.Q. was so low. I would recommend this book to someone who wants a sad book; this book would make people cry. I want to read the original novel. show less

Day of Tears is about slaves that are sold and they escape to Canada. It starts out when two slaves named Emma and Joe live with their friends and family. They live in the Butler Plantation, where there are owned by Master Butler. In their town, they are having a slave bidding. Master Butler is selling most of his slave in the bidding. At the start, he told Emma that he wouldn't sell her. At the end, he sold her and Joe to a lady named Mistress Henfield. Mistress Henfield takes both of Kentucky. When Master Butler gets home, he gets into a fight with Emma's mother, because he sold her even if he promised not to. Mistress Henfield treats the slaves like family. She gave Joe a job at the local store on some days. At Joe's job, Mr. Henry the manager of the store, teaches Joe how to read, and talks to him about escaping, and going to the north. Joe tells Emma about escaping, and they escape, with their friends in the plantation. They go to Philadelphia, and then to Canada.

Day of Tears is a sad book. I didn't know that owners would lie to their slaves, and their families. Their families are suffering every time, they go to an auction. They could be sent to another owner. I am happy, that Joe and Emma made it to Canada. This should be a book to a person who is doing a report on slavery in the US. This book shows how the slaves live in plantation, and how they escape.

Regarding the Sink is one of the books in the series by Kate Klise. Her books are fun to read. They are unique when you read them. You read the story as notes, and newspapers. The story is about a middle school, who wants a new sink for their cafeteria. The sink in the cafeteria is always getting clogged. The 6th grade class in the middle school is good friends with a fountain designer named Florence Waters. Florence tells the 6th graders, that she will create the new sink. Florence is always keeping in touch with the class, but one day she stops sending letters. The class thinks something happened to Florence, and she is lost. Her last letter said that she is in a city in China. The class goes on a field trip, and goes to China. Then they find mysterious clues about Florence there.

This book is great for wasting time. I read this book during spring break, when there was nothing to do. I like how you have to read the book in different ways. On one page, you would read a newspaper article, and then you would read a memo. This book is also a mystery. I like how 6th graders solve crimes. In the other books the kids always arrest someone at the end. I can't believe that 6th graders would arrest adults. I wish the library had all the books in the series.

The Diary of Anne Frank is about a 13 year old girl who goes into hiding from the Nazis. Anne lives with her father, mother and sister. They also share their hiding spot with the Van Daans, and later with Dr. Dussel. The hiding place is called the Secret Annex, located on the top floors of Mr. Frank's factory. In the Annex, Everybody living there must be quiet and stay in their rooms from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m... Mr. Frank's colleges help them survive in the Annex. His colleges are Meip and Mr. Kraler, they deliver the latest news, and give them food and books. Every time Anne is allowed to move around and talk, she is always talking to Peter, the son of the Van Daan's. Peter has a Tomcat named Mouschi. Peter is a 16 year old who doesn't really like Annex at first, but later he starts to like her. Anne even goes on a date with Peter. But the people in the Annex get found by the Gestapo, and goes to a concentration camp.

I loved reading this book. Before I started this book, I've been to the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam. I saw the real diary on display. I wanted to read her diary, and what happened in the Annex. I was happy I gotten a chance to read how life was hiding from the Nazis. I like how Anne never became depressed during their hiding, and I hoped the Nazis didn't find them when they were in hiding. This story is one of a kind, and this book is one of the best holocaust books ever written. I hope everyone can read The Diary of Anne Frank.

Dying to Meet You is about this book writer that never written a book for 20 years. The book starts when the writer is finding a rental summer house. The writer picks an old mansion at 43 Old Cemetery Road. When the writer goes to the mansion, he finds out, that the house is very old and it looks haunted. Inside the house he finds an 11 year old boy who lives on the third floor with his cat. The writer decides that he wants to get a refund, because he gets a message that he has to take care of the boy. The boy's parents are traveling Europe and don't want him anymore. The boy tells the writer, that he is not allowed on the third floor and they can only talk by writing on paper. The writer starts to write, but he always has writer's block and can only make the first chapter. One day, he finds out that the boy is talking to someone on the third floor. He finds out that it's a ghost. The ghost takes care of the boy and the ghost is the person who built the mansion. The writer and the ghost become great friends and also the boy. The writer finds out that he becomes broke and he can't go back home because he can't pay his debt to the book company and his apartment. He decides to buy the mansion and live with the boy and the ghost.

This book is a great book! I love reading books by Kate Klise. I like how her books are written in letter form. They are also funny books. It's funny how the ghost takes care of the boy, because she floats and wears glasses. This book is great that show more it's a series, because I want the library to get the second book. I would recommend this book to a kid who wants to read a scary ghost story. This book is also a fun Halloween book. show less

Eighth Grade Bites is all about 8th grader named Vladimir Tod or Vlad. Vlad's parents died in an accident when Vlad was a kid. Vlad is half vampire and half human. His father was a vampire that got married to a human. Vlad lives with his Aunt Nelly. Nelly works at a hospital and brings back bagged blood. Vlad drinks the blood and eats raw meat and food injected by Nelly with blood. Vlad's best friend Henry knows that Vlad is a vampire. His English teacher recently gotten lost and he have a sub named Mr. Otis. Mr. Otis seems suspicious to Vlad, because they are have to do a report on werewolves, fairies and vampires. Vlad has to do a report on vampires. Each day, Mr. Otis asks Vlad about his family. Vlad gets scared and thinks that Mr. Otis is a vampire. One day Mr. Otis tells Vlad and Nelly that he is Vlad's uncle. His uncle tells him that someone is out to kill him, and Vlad and his uncle kill the vampire that is trying to kill Vlad.

This book is a good vampire book. Vlad is a vampire human that is a great character. Vlad is always hiding his fangs and covering his skin with sunscreen. I like how the book is in eighth grade. It reminds me of the dances that we have after school. I love how Vlad finds out that his sub teacher is his uncle. I love to read mystery books. I would recommend this book to a person who likes vampire stories. I might read the next book, when Vlad is in ninth grade.

Dog days is the fourth book of the diary of the wimpy kid series. It's all about Greg and his summer experience. It all starts when Greg plays video games in his room in darkness for days. One day, his mom opens his curtains and tells him to do something educational. Greg's mom creates this book club at their house and invites the other kids in their neighborhood. The books she lets the boys read are classic books, like Charlotte’s Web and Old Yeller. One day in the book club, Greg's mom tells everyone to bring their favorite books. They all bring game books or violent books. Greg's mom tells them that their not allowed reading the books, and all of the kids leave except for Greg and Rowley. Greg does something else than real the whole summer so Greg goes to the local pool, and he sees that the lifeguard is Heather Hills one of the most beautiful girls in high school. Then he tries to catch her attention, but she ignores him. Greg goes home and asks his parents if they can go to the beach, because the local pool is always filled with people. Instead of going to the beach, they go to this water park. When they go the water park, it starts to rain and the park closes. Then all a sudden Greg doesn't see Rowley anymore. Rowley is always spending time with his dad, while Greg doesn't see his dad because he's always busy working. One day, Rowley sees Greg at the grocery Rowley and invites him to go with his parents to the beach. Greg accepts his invitation and they stay in a show more log cabin house. Greg gets all mad, because there is no electronics. Greg tries to escape the log house and Greg sends an email to his mom to take him home. The email was sent from Rowley's father's email, and Greg gets in trouble. They leave early from their beach trip, because Greg and Rowley get lost in the Boardwalk on the beach. At the end of the book, Greg's mother puts the pictures she taken over the whole summer and puts them in a scrapbook.

I really like reading this series. Greg is very funny character who is always losing his friend Rowley and then becoming friends at the end. I liked that Greg makes comics for the school or the newspaper. His comics are funny and entertaining. Rowley's parents are always watching over Rowley. I hope the library gets the latest book, the fifth book. The library should get the fifth book because the library has all the other books except for the fifth. Lots of people like the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. show less

This book is about a boy named Moose and his family that just moved to Alcatraz. His father just gotten a job there as an electrician and a guard to watch the prisoners. His family moved there so Natalie can attend a private school in San Francisco. Natalie is obsessed with her button collection and she also has autism. Natalie always takes her buttons everywhere she goes. Moose meets the warden's daughter, Piper and the other children that live in Alcatraz. Moose and Piper go to the same school, and Moose has trouble making new friends. Moose meets Scout, a boy who likes to play baseball just like Moose. Piper is always thinking of ideas to get money from her class. One of her ideas was to have clothes washed by prisoners. Almost all the kids at the school got their clothes washed. The warden finds out about their plan, and they get in trouble.

This book shows how the children on Alcatraz lived. The kid’s lives were hard. Every day the families had to take a boat everyday to go to school, or buy groceries. The families also don't need to lock their doors because the guard watches the whole island. Even the people in San Francisco don't have to worry about the prisoners. I enjoyed reading this book, because it shows how children live when Alcatraz was a prison. I think that the kids don't have time to spend with their fathers because their always working. I would recommend this book to someone who wants to learn about Alcatraz.

The Cage is by, Ruth Minsky Sender. Ruth Minsky Sender is the main character; her real name is Riva Minska. She lived in Lotz, Poland with her mother and younger brothers. Riva used to have older brothers and a sister, but before the war started, they moved to Russia. Riva's neighbors got taken away from the ghetto, because they were German. Riva's mother got taken away from Lotz, because she looked sick, and the Germans took her away. Riva became the youngest person to adopt her younger brothers. One of Riva's brothers was sick with Tuberculosis. He died when he was 13. Riva's also got sick, she couldn't walk. Her legs wouldn't let her stand up. Her brothers bought her some medicine to make her stronger. She got better and started to walk again. Riva and her brothers decided to go to a concentration camp. When they get to the camp, they split up. Riva goes with the women and her friends. Riva stays in Auschwitz for a week, and then moves to a work camp. In the work camp, she puts clay in holes to build a shelter for Germans to hide in when there is a bombing. One day Riva gets a cut on her finger from the buckets. Her hand becomes infected, and later her blood gets infected. She has to go to the doctor in the city. Most of the hospitals don't accept her. One clinic checks her, and the doctor says that she needs a surgery. Before Riva get her surgery, she needs to go back three more times to check her infection. On the third check up, her infection stops going up her arm, show more and she is allowed to work again. When Riva starts work, she is still too weak to work. She becomes friends with the nurse in their local town. At the end, Riva and the other prisoners get saved by Russian soldiers. After she got saved, she went to her home in Lotz, and she makes a grave for her brother who died. After that, she finds her older brothers and sister who were sent to Russia, and they all go to America to live.

The book is a very touching book. Riva shows the readers how life in the ghettos are, and in concentration camps. The ghettos are very rough, the guards want the Jews to die or go to camps. That is what Riva does is go to a camp. This is a great book that shows how Jews lived during WWII. I would give this book to a person who is studying about the Holocaust, or WWII. When people read this book, they feel like crying. Riva almost died from blood poisoning, if she didn't get medical help. She was very lucky that her commandant let her go to the city. I was very happy she lived to write this book. show less

Letters to My Mother is about a young girl that writes letters to her mother that is in heaven. The girl lives in Cuba with her aunt, cousins and her grandmother. All of them don't like the girl, because she is always getting in trouble. In the letters, she writes about her new school, there is this white boy named Roberto and a mean girl named Baby. The kids at school make fun of her because she is black except for Roberto. Roberto always goes to the girl's house because he doesn't have a dad and his mother is always leaving the house. The girl also becomes friends with an old lady who is also a gardener. In her garden, there are beautiful plants and a tree that keeps growing fruit all year long. At the end of the book everyone starts to get along with the young girl. The girl starts to like living in Cuba, and she also wants to find her father.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The girl keeps sending letters to her dead mother, so she can have someone to talk to. The letters show that she loved her mother very much. The relatives that she is living with start to realize that she is a very nice and sweet girl. This book teaches people to be strong. If you've been punished, then you can write about it so it can make you feel better. I would recommend this book to a person who needs a book about love and caring for one another. Just like the characters in this story.

Lord of the Deep is about a stepfather named Bill and his stepson Mikey. They live in Hawaii's Kona coast, with Mickey's mom and his stepbrother Billy- Jay. Bill and Mikey have a boat called the Crystal- C where they are fishermen. The book is divided into 3 parts. The first part is about how Bill and Mikey get ready for their daily departure on their Crystal- C boat. The second part is about their guest who comes with them on the boat journey one day. Their guest that come with them are are Cal, Ernie and Alison. Alison is a 16 year old girl that loves to draw in her sketchbook and she doesn't like to fish. Cal and Ernie came on the boat to fish. During the long day, they catch two fish. One fish almost died on the boat, but it jumped back into the water. The other fish was a huge Marlin that was yellow, blue and green. The third part is when they go back to the port. They weigh their Marlin, and it is a record weighing fish. Cal, Ernie, Mikey and Bill go into the record books. Cal, Ernie and Bill made a promise that they will split the winning money into 3rds. Mikey gets mad at Bill because he had to split the money. They get in a fight, and then the next day Mikey and Bill go back on the Crystal- C and Cal and Ernie come back aboard. Then Mikey and Bill get along and Mikey gets on of Alison's drawings from her sketchbook.

Lord of the Deep is a great book! The book is mostly about sailing on a boat and catching fish. I would give this book to someone who likes the sea show more and fishing. The sea is great big blue water where you can find lots of different animals. In Lord of the Deep you can see how fishermen catch fish. The book has is mostly about a bond with Mikey and Bill. Mikey's first father wasn't a great dad, because he kept leaving him with his mom. show less

Skeleton Creek is about a boy named Ryan who lives in Skeleton Creek. He has a best friend named Sarah. Skeleton Creek is an old empty town that is in the middle of nowhere and it used to be a mining cite. One night Ryan and Sarah go out into the woods to explore the mining cites. When they get there, Ryan gets injured by falling into one of the pits on the ground. Ryan goes to the hospital, he was in a coma and he broke his leg. After he awakes from his coma, he goes home. His parents don't want him to talk or see Sarah again because he almost died from what he did. All Ryan can do is lay in his bed for seven weeks. His only chance to talk to Sarah is by secretly getting his laptop and making emails. Every time he emails her, he always prints out the emails and put it in his journal. Ryan and Sarah want to find out what happened in the mines. One night Ryan meets Sarah in the forest to find out what really happened in the mines.

This book is great! It is a mystery of an old town in the middle of nowhere. The book is very realistic. I really want to read the next book. The next book continues the story. I feel like I am there when he writes in his journal and emails Sarah. I would give the book to someone who likes mysteries. It's full of action and excitement.

A Midsummer Night's Dream is about four different stories. Each story ends with the same ending. The first story is about the Royal Wedding. Hippolyta and Theseus are getting married because their proposal on the battlefield. The second story is the Lovers who secretly love each other because the king wants them to marry the person of his command. The third story is the Fairy Fight where Oberon and Titania are fight because of this changing child. The child belongs to Titania because her servant died during child birth but Oberon wants the child to grow up to be a strong man. The forth story is the Tradesmen where six regular men who work in the city are want to be actors and director. One of the actors thinks that he is better than everyone. At the end the lovers get married the same time as the royal wedding, the fairies stop fighting and bless the couples after the wedding, and the tradesmen perform during the wedding.

I really liked the story because it was funny. It had lots of drama and fighting. Also at the end everyone had a happy ending. I would hope the library has the other Shakespeare books. I would want to read the other books. Shakespeare is one of the greatest play writers ever. I wish I could see the play at the Globe Theater. See all the men act in the play as women.

Grandfather's Dance is about a family who lives on a farm. The family has three kids, two dogs and their grandfather. One of the daughters is getting married in a couple of weeks. The youngest child is a boy named Jack. Jack is learning how to talk. Every time Jack is with his grandfather, he is always learning new words. Before the wedding, the Aunts visit to see the oldest daughter get married. After the wedding, they have a big party and everyone comes and gives gifts to the couple. The next week, before the Aunts leaves the whole family has a family picture. And during the pictures, Grandfather has a heart attack and dies.

I think that Grandfather's Dance is a book that is about family. I liked the book because it has a lot of funny parts in the story. I would give it to a person who wants to read about a family who loves and cares each other. It can also teach you how to live in a farm. I enjoyed reading this book.

Alida's Song is about a boy who is fourteen. He at first lives in a city with his parents. His parents don't take care of him, so he works to get money to feed himself. He first delivers newspapers and then buys fresh bread from the local bakery. Then goes to school, he doesn't have any friends and he is not good at talking to girls. After school he works at the local bowling alley and sets up pins. At the end of each day he gets at least six dollars. When he gets home his parents are always getting drunk and fighting all the time. He wants to leave the big city and go somewhere else. One day he receives a letter from his grandmother Alida saying to work with her in a farm owned by two old men. He leaves the city and comes to live in the farm. During his first few days he helps by making the milk and by picking the mustard seeds and the weeds. On every Sunday, everyone in the town comes to a dance. On one Sunday, it's his grandmother's 45th anniversary. The band plays a song called Alida's Song for Alida and she dances with her grandson.

This book is a great book. The boy leaves the city to go to his grandmother to help in the farm. This book is about the boy taking care of his old grandmother. I would give this book to someone who likes farm life. I wish the library had the first book, The Cook Camp. I would certainly read The Cook Camp if the library gets it.

The Quilt is by Gary Paulsen, and it is about a boy who lives with his grandmother named Alida. The boy lived with his grandmother because when he was born, a week later his father left to fight in World War II. His mother lived with him in front of a railroad station and his mother started to see different men and drink at a local bar a lot. The boy didn't like what his mother was doing, so he moved with his grandmother. In the start of the story, he and grandma go to stay with their relative Kristina. His grandma wants to help in Kristina's farm because Kristina is going to have her baby anytime, and her husband had to fight in the war. The day after they get there, Kristina's water broke; Alida calls her friends and family to help Kristina. The friends and family bring lots of baby supply to the house for the new baby boy. At the end of the day, all of the relatives take out a quilt and start putting new patches on the quilt. The boy tells his grandma what is the quilt is for, and she said that it has all of the family members who passed away in the family. The next day someone comes to the house and tells Kristina that her husband died at war. Kristina cries but Alida tells her that she should be strong and to keeping working hard for her newly born son that she named after the husband.

The Quilt is a very nice book. It is about this family that has husbands fighting in the war. They are fighting for their freedom for their country. And I would love to read the first show more two books of this series. I would give this book to someone who loves to read about family and friendship. It is one of the books that you would never put down until you finish the whole book. I hope they have the rest of the series in the library. show less

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodrick Rules is about Greg's brother Rodrick and how he is always mean to Greg. This is the second book of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. It all starts when Greg gets a new diary from his mom because she found out how much he wrote in it last year. Now Greg is starting school and how the teachers arrange where Greg is going to sit. The kids in the school are afraid of him because he got the cheese touch on the last day of school last year. Every day when he comes home he always gets bullied by his brother. Greg goes to Rowley's (his best friend house) almost every day to play and tell about his plans. Greg would write about his everyday life and how he doesn't like it in his diary. Greg is always doing funny things in his everyday life.

I would recommend this book because it is funny. If you like reading comics then you would love this book. I would give this book to a kid who loves imagination. I love to reading comics. If you want to have a fun time while reading books, then this book is for you.

Notso Hotso is about a dog named Anthony. The story takes place when Anthony is in his house and starts to shead his skin. He keeps scratching his skin that it go all over the floor. His owner starts to see all the hair and she call the vet to make a appointment, but the vet said that they have to come on Thursday. When Anthony goes outside he see his neighbor the cat. He doesn't like the cat beacuse the cat always makes fun of him. When he goes to the park the other dogs tell him that he has some areas on his skin that has no hair on it. When his owner sees him with almost no hair, she takes him to the vet. When they get to the vet, she said that all she can do is shave all his hair off. After she does that, Anthony goes and runs out to the car and wants to go home. When he gets home he goes to the park and sees a dog standing in front of him. The dog doesn't move so Anthony starts to howl and everyone starts to go to him. They try to help the other dog and he becomes a hero in the newspaper.

I would give Notso Hotso to a person who would get a dog like Anthony. If they are getting a dog like him then they should read this book. I liked this book becasuse it was funny. Anthony is a dog who always has something to do if it is chasing dogs in the park to trying to go into his owners bedroom. Notso Hotso is a book for a person any age. I would love to read books like this one again!

Hate That Cat is about a boy named Jack in Miss Stretchberry's class. Miss Stretchberry has been his teacher for 3 years in a row. Every year she would tell the children to buy journals and write poems in it. Jack would always write inspired poem from authors throughout the school year. Jack would always write about how he doesn't like cats at all. He doesn't like cats because before he had a dog. And he got scratched badly in the face by a cat he was trying to save in a tree. But all of this changed when he was opening presents one Christmas morning, and one of the presents was a small back kitten. He loved that kitten and named it Skitter McKitter. He would always take care of it and play with it all the time.

This book is a great and funny book. It is great for people who love cats and poems. I would love to see another book like this come to the library. I would give this book to anyone because this is a very easy and fun book to read. There are many different authors throughout the book. And they also have famous poems in this book. This is a very interesting book about a boy and his experience with cats.

Fearless Fernie is a book that has poems about two best friends who love to explore things together. In every paragraph, you can see what they are doing in their daily lives. Even when they were babies, they would crawl across the grass away from their mothers. Fernie would always protect his best friend that he follows him everywhere he goes. Fernie also has a big imagination when it comes to emotions. When Fernie is happy, he puts a pair of wax lips on his mouth. He also has other things that he does that show what he feels at a certain time. Fernie and his friend can be painting windows or working out in the garage. They can really have lots of fun together.

Fearless Fernie is a book that is simply about two friends and how they explore life together. I like to read books that has poems and letters that tells about people's daily lives. I would give this book to a 5th grader who loves to read poems about boys who do crazy things.
