Shattered
By Eric Walters
This book is about a teen named Ian Blackburn, he is a spoiled rich kid but not the troubled or angry ones. He needs to complete 40 hours of community service to pass his civics class and to get the new car his parents have promised him for passing his courses. He chooses to volunteer at The Club which sounds like fun until he finds out it is a soup kitchen for the homeless. Ian is forced to work there to complete his hours of community service. Along the way he meets Mac who runs The Club, and Sarge aka Jacques who is a retired soldier in the Canadian Armed Forces. Shattered opens the readers' eyes to what's really happening around the world and how the homeless live. It also tells us about the difficulties that the Canadian soldiers had to face when they returned from peace keeping missions. Ian's character changes a lot throughout the book and he finally realizes that he shouldn't take anything or anyone for granted. I would recommend this book to kids, teens, and adults and to everyone who likes Eric Walters' books because this is just another one of his big hits.

The Third Wheel (Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Book 7)
By Jeff Kinney
This book is about a teen named Gregory Heffley aka Greg. In this book Greg's high school holds a Valentines Day dance, everyone was talking about it and the students had to find a date to go with. The school organized candy grams, the candy grams were invitations to the Valentines Day dance. The students had to send candy grams to the person that they wanted to go to the dance with. There were more boys than girls in Greg's grade so a lot of the guys (including Greg) we're worried that they won't get a date to go to the dance with. Greg tried sending a candy gram to a girl named Adrianne but she said no. He tried and tried but he was never successful in getting a date for the dance, until he came up with an idea of going to the dance as a group of friends with his best friend Rowley and a girl named Abigail who got dumped one day before the dance. This is a child/young adult book. If you enjoyed the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series then this is definitely the book for you.
