Very good peaks and intensity early and mid book as well as towards end; wraps up sufficiently. Nice action. Cool world building.
Such an interesting way to rethink the dark ages and highlight economic and social developments that have been ignored until now. This really changed the way I think about the time between the fall of Rome and the Renaissance.
Great world building and epic conflict/jeopardy throughout the book. Great ending. Great beginning. And I love the middle bit as well. This one is exciting a little bit scary and quite uplifting as well one of the best sci-fi books out there.
4th book picked up a little bit of pace from the 3rd book. Plenty ridiculous and still quite amusing. Having not yet read the 5th book though I’d say the first two could be a good stopping point (for a casual fan).
Not really any character development. The story is somewhat interesting but we’ve learned enough since the 90s that a lot of it is kind of common knowledge now.
Pretty interesting but it didn’t really go anywhere. It was interesting at the beginning and then there was some action. And a little trip out to other worlds — fairly short though. Then the wrap up was just dull.
Awesome book, series is really picking up. Really starting to dig into mind as a power, and the development of the humans by the Arisians.
Interesting deeper dive into the concepts of the earlier books. Clearly written decades later, but still quite good.
Too dense and hidden for me; understand he has to get past sensors but habit of not introducing characters makes it unfun to read.
Just delightfully wierd and fun. Takes the mick out of “real” science fiction, but has all its own components nicely done.

Great book, but uncomfortable bigoted language in parts mainly at beginning and end. Without that it would get a full additional star.
This books sucks it’s just a guy talking to you about stories other people told. Nothing compelling.
