I appreciated the whole story being told in such a way that we identify with the pain of all involved, even the German citizens. It also helps to see that all are affected by war and evil and find ways to cope. It was good that her spiritual perspective was included.
This was an easy read but challenging in facing the impact of war.

Touching portrayal of loyalty and connection of the heart of a child to his grandfather. Max, as the central character is refreshingly honest with his own fears and longings. He approaches subjects with the courage of spirit that believes he can do something to change the course of his life and bring joy to another's.
As he kidnaps his grandfather from the nursing home, the description of that place is both comforting and confining but not negative.
It was fun to read along with the CD and enjoy the inspiration of music with the illustrations. Excellent and honest approach to a subject most families face.
