Uprising is a book about 3 unlikely friends come together because of their connections with the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. Although their lives are different, they experience the same struggles and feelings of fear of the present and hope for the future. A deadly accident occurs, changing their lives forever. You will definitely want to read this book if you have an interest in women's rights, fair labor laws, the early 1900's, and friendship at all costs.
Holes is an interesting book for kids of all ages. It would be an especially interesting book to young adults who found themselves in trouble all the time through no real fault of their own. It is a book about fate, coincidence, and good luck. It conveys hard work, being lost, surviving the desert, adventure, snake venom, false accusations, and finally success and freedom. It even looks at how even though parents are doing their best, they can still make mistakes about us.
This book has amazing illustrations. It talks about a fish who is very proud of his uniqueness. Even though he is proud, he encounters a problem. He has no friends. He learns a life lesson to make him a happier fish. Read this book to find out what Rainbow Fish learned.
Witness is a story told in poem form about the Klu Klux Klan trying to infiltrate a small Vermon town in the 1930's. There are several witnesses to the events taking place. The Klan is connected to a murder in the city. This book helps readers to think about the injustices that can occur in the name of justice and democracy.
The Hunger Games is completely awesome. At first I was appalled by storyline - children killing children. However, as I began to read more and more, I realized that Collins was trying to tell a story about more than an imaginary place with imaginary games. It actually reminds me of the horrors that children in Africa face on a daily basis. I loved this book.
