The context from this book was very interesting because it clearly shows how kids understand differently from humans, especially stories. Also, it was amazing to see how Minli decides to go explore and experience the real world without any other intention but help her parents, Personally, I enjoyed this lecture because it made me think a lot in students' lives. For example, how I need to be aware of the communication between kids and parents, values, envionment, resources available/not available and the rest of factores that influence the human and mental development of a child. I enjoyed the end and the way I was able to immerse myself in every chapter of the book!!
Another amazing story to share with younger children (2-5 years). It talks about why I a me? as the title says, truly makes you think as a reader why you are you, different from the rest but part of a world where diverisity is valued and respected. This book represent the idea of a human being that is open minded and unique by being either small, tall, faster, skinny, older, younger, darker, lighther, or any other feature that it is just beyond our interest if we accept ourselves. It will be a great story to describe how students feel about certain things around them and to learn to value ourselves by the person we are, by the actions we do and by the love and good things we do.
Definitely a book that I want to read to my future students. Especially, younger kids (2-4 years). It talks about how a little dog is with a new mom (cat mom) and loves the treat even when they look different. So, it truly explain the topic of adoption, diversity and love above anything else since we need to accept and respect to each other. LOVED IT! SHORT BUT WORTH IT TO DEVELOP MORE IN DEEP IN CLASS.
This has been one of my favorites stories because it is connected to the real world where there are a lot of parents unemployed in the community. Therefore, kids are looking for an opportunity to help them. In the story the little boy goes and pawn his most loved object, a watch! He gave the money to his dad and once his dad is able to find a job goes back to the pawnshop and get the watch for Joey (little boy). All family celebrates together at the end. This book can be a great resource to be used at home to increase attachment and exchange ideas (parent-child)
Definitely, one of my favorite books during these first two weeks. The story is about how a small girl notices everything that happens around her, including mean behaviors, bullying and other things. However, nobody notices about her since she was the smallest girl in the smallest classroom. One day she decided to speak up and say that the actions she has been observed were not correct and they needed to be changed, So, everyone put attention to her words and changed since she used her words and bravery to show how the actions were not appropiate at all! LOVED IT !
A short book that tells the story of how excited a little girl is since she will be doing a lot of things with her grandmother..While, numbers can be part of a learning activity by the reader. It was a good book, and I liked that the characters were representing people and kids from the carribean. One more book published with characteres of color, representing diversity and the real world
This book is full of actions that describe the nature of loving and caring about people in our lives. I enjoyed how for every situation the unconditional love from family was there, so it can a great book to recommend as reading at home (parent-child). This story can connect the child to the family members.
It was just a sweet reminder of how every child deserves to be happy and loved. If it is not the case, this book made me think deeply of how I can be a support for children that need to feel safe, loved and happy (at least when they are in my classroom).
The story developed in the mountains connected me strongly to my little town in the mountains where I used to lived in Mexico. I think that the ilustrations and text were connected to make the reader feel like inside the story. As I was looking for more information about the autor, I found out that this was her first book and that it was actually based in a story from her real life. It was amazing to know this, i love true story readings.
Moreover, I could use this book to create a family/community map with students to see how they describe and draw the places they are from.
This book represents the idea of a teacher that motivates students to go out and experience the world by saying that ...''someday they may go where she has never been''. I enjoyed this reading because it made realize how teacher language can be implemented in a book to bring enthusiasm in students.
Chrysanthemum was a little mouse that loved her name until one day other friends started to make fun about it, and she felt it was not a cool name. However, a teacher named Mrs. Delphinium agreed that Chrysanthemum was a beautiful name and that just because it was long it did not have anything wrong. Then, Chrysanthemum loved her name again as much as her family, teacher, and now friends. Definitely, a book to read to experience what our names mean.
