Book Review
Overboard by Elizabeth Fama
Fourteen-year old Emily Slake just wants 'a normal life'. She wants to return to the States to her old school and friends. For the last year and a half, Emily has been living in Aceh in northern Sumatra with her parents, who work there at a small hospital. Uncle Matt, who has arrived from Boston for a tour on the neighboring island of Weh, invites Emily to spend a few days with him. Emily boards a ferry to Weh, hoping that her Uncle will convince her parents to let her return with him to Boston. She boards an over-crowded ferry. When the boat sinks, she’s trapped by hundreds of panicked people. She finds Isman, a terrified young Muslim boy, floating in a life vest. Together, they swim for their lives.
Overboard is a very intense and exciting book and I was unable to put it down. I would recommend this book for both genders and probably over the age of 12.

Book Review on Escape from Memory
By Margaret Peterson Haddix
When Kira is hypnotized by her friends at a sleepover she discovers secrets about herself and possibly her mother. She also discovers that she can speak another strange language. Kira is defiant to find out what all this means and she plans to confront her mother, but after her mother disappears and a strange woman comes to her house, calling herself her Aunt Memory, Kira's whole world is turned around. Kara’s aunt memory takes Kira to a strange place called Crythe hidden in the state of California, where Kira discovers she is the daughter to 2 famous scientists from Crythe. In Crythe memory means everything and in order for Kira to save her mother she must discover the secrets and memory of her parents hidden inside her... I thought this book was really well written, but it was slightly confusing near the end and I thought it could have been better. I think especially girls would enjoy this book, but it can definitely also be enjoyed by boys. I think the suitable age for this book is 11 and above...

The Wedding Girl

But she never got a divorce and she never told anyone. Everything that Milly cares about is all about to break down…
I would recommend this book for girls above the age of 12. I think this is a good book, but I don’t think this book would interest any boys if they were to read it.

Since Kinsey Millhone was fired by California Fidelity Insurance, Kinsey lost her usual swagger. And her new case is not easy. Attorney Lonnie Kingman is going to court in a civil suit in three weeks when his P.I. drops dead of a heart attack. With the statute of limitations running out, Kinsey has to tie up the loose ends of a murder investigation. The victim, an artist named Isabelle Barney had been shot with a .38; her husband David Barney, was released off the murder.
Now her ex-husband is suing Barney for Isabelle's estate, claiming the jury made a big mistake.
Things get complicated when Barney gets to Kinsey, insisting he's innocent. Everything he says checks out. But if David Barney is innocent, who's guilty?
I would recommend this book mostly for adults or teenagers at least 14. I think this is a good book, but for the reader to enjoy this book you must like mystery and suspense and like Scott Turow’s writing method.

Book Review on Trickster’s Choice:
Aly is 17 and the daughter of famous parents. Her mother is the Lioness, the first woman knight and king's champion of Tortall and her father is Tortall's spymaster. Both of her parents want her to 'grow up' and find her way in life. But when Aly tells them that she wants to be a spy they both tell her NO! So Aly decides to leave for a while so her parents can cool off. But while sailing away she is captured by pirates and sold as a slave. The patriarch of the family she is sold to is a relative of the throne and has a wife with two children and two girls. The family she is sold into is told they must leave the land because the king no longer trusts them. She meets Kyprioth, the Trickster, and makes a bargain: if Aly keeps the Duke and his family safe for the summer, Kyprioth will return her to her family and persuade her parents to let her be a spy. With magic, spells, winged horses that are part human and part metal, crows that take human form, treason, and attempted kidnapping helps Aly finding her independence.
I think this is a good book but the genre “modern fantasy “doesn’t interest me very much. I would recommend this book for young adults, both genders, for this book to be as enjoyable as possible!

Book Review
Koyal Dark, Mango Sweet
Koyal dark, mango sweet is set in present-day India. The story centers around Jeeta, a sixteen-year-old student, and her family, who live in a cramped one bedroom apartment in the city streets of Mumbai. Jeeta's family is always arranging marriages for her two older sisters, but the drama and excitement leaves Jeeta cold. Where is the love and romance that the movies promise? She is defiantly not looking forward to when it is her turn, especially since Mummy is always complaining about how difficult it will be to find Jeeta a good husband, with her dark skin and sharp tongue. As Jeeta spends more time with her new friend from school, Sarina, and her educated parents, she begins to question her tradition-bound family's expectations…
I think Koyal dark, Mango sweet is wonderfully written and you really get to experience and understand the Indian culture in Mumbai. I think this book will be most enjoyable for teenage girls, at least 12+

Book Review:
Lord Loss by Darren Shan
Grubbs Grady is always getting into trouble. Most of his life is spent on yelling fights with his parents or getting revenge on his sister, Gret. His parents seem normal (aside for obsessively teaching their children chess) until the night they and Gret are slaughtered by demons named Vein, Artery and the demon master Lord Loss. He lives with his nightmares in a world of doctors and nurses who have given up on him. But then, Grubbs is rescued by his mysterious uncle Dervish, and is taken to live with him. Grubbs meets a local boy, Bill-E Spleen. Bill-E pulls Grubbs into a mystery - dead animals have been found with human tooth marks. Due to the investigation, they quickly get in over their heads, and Grubbs must face his worst fear - take on Lord Loss at chess and battle against his demons to save someone close to him…
I usually don’t prefer Horror books, but Lord Loss by Darren Shan is a great book. It has a good plotting and you really get to experience how the character, Grubbs, changes and develops throughout the book. I would recommend this book for teenagers and young adults of both genders. However, to enjoy this book you will need a whole lot of imagination.
