It was a nice story. You have about five main different characters that live in the same town and you follow them and how their lives interconnect with each other. There is one main character, Mr. Singer, who is the center that all the other ones gravitate to. I personally didn't connect much with any of them. Mr. Singer was the one that I was more interested in but you never get too much background on him, however, the special friendship he has with the other mute was the story that moved me the most. I rated it three stars not bc it's not well written or it's boring but for me it lacked that spark of fireworks. Regarding the ending I personally would have liked to know what happened with the characters in the future to have an ending. This was more reading a specific moment in time of when they had Mr. Singer in their lives. Looking at the title I think the story fits bc they were all searching for something, which Mr. Singer, sort of was a source of that - a person that didn't judge, listened and they could connect to on a personal level who would give them his full attention. At the end they are left on their own........lonely hunters. Ironically, Singer had found that special human connection and it was taken away from him, when they send his friend away and while all these other folks tried to build that connection with him, and I'm sure some of them in their minds thought they had, to Mr. Singer the main most powerful connection was with his mute friend and once he show more had completely lost that he took action. Their was a moment after learning of a tragic event that he saw three more mutes but there was never a connection.........I wonder if they had connected if things would have turned out differently. I assume that all the other persons back in town that he had befriended felt betrayed and shocked bc they weren't enough in his life so as to stay. The last part might sound confusing if you haven't read the book but in trying to not clearly state a spoiler I had to write it like that. show less
