I was giggling within minutes of starting the first of three stories in this book. To be honest I think this first story was also my favorite! I have always known that nursery rhymes, fables, legends, and fairy tales have throughout time been altered. This was first brought to my attention when I read the real account of "The Three Little Pigs", while not a story portrayed in TaleSpins, it was a true rather horrifying lesson for me.

As I was saying, the favorite for me was "8: The Previously Untold Story of the Previously Unknown 8th Dwarf". This is the one that after giggling and finishing the story I felt the need to read it aloud to my older kids. Who in turn also laughed through it!

I love that 8th dwarf, even though his life ends up being full of nasty tragic treatment. I almost fell off my chair at the portrayal of Snow White entering the house, and her encounters with the "witch" were absolutely priceless! The ending however caught me off guard, as well as the kids. We NEVER thought about that when Snow White went into her sleeping slumber.

This is a story that caused our family to open up and talk about how stories that get handed down can easily be altered by a sentence or meaning, and how it continues until we have the more innocent looking ones that you hear today.

I read the other two stories alone, and they were equally as fascinating. I enjoyed fitting each tidbit or clue to different characters or Fairy Tales. Although I am going to come off as a complete show more idiot for not catching it sooner- the last story "Jack'd", it took me a bit to realize the first words from the graffiti artist's.

The middle story, "The Plight and Plot of Princess Penny", showed me more of some very valuable lessons to be learned. This story or lessons were much more entertaining than what I could preach to my kids, especially my daughters.

I absolutely loved reading TaleSpins and I would/will recommend it to anyone. If you enjoy a quirky twist on the good ole fashioned fairy tale, then you will enjoy it too.

This book was a very unique experience for me, it is one of the first books that I have read where I felt that the main character was having a conversation with me. The story grabs you from the very beginning and holds you in a grip of emotions that sneak up and surprise you. The event that takes place and the story that unfolds is something I will never forget, quite possibly because the fact of this being someones true story is very real. But also that as science moves forward the ideas can also become very real.

Alex became almost a close friend through her horrifying ordeal. In the same breath I was able to hate, love, feel compassion, feel pity, and much more with each turn of the page. The reality of her situation caused me to think consistently about how often her condition can be happening. That is probably the most frightening thought, the thought that it CAN happen and it COULD happen to me.
Suzy Liebermann was able to take simple quotes full of encouragement heartfelt thoughts and paired them with amazing snapshots of breathtaking scenes. Island Dreams offers the reader a serene and inspiring place to dwell within each page. The reader is able to focus their attention on beautiful tranquil water scenes, abandoned quiet shipwrecks, calming sunsets and more, as they ponder of the corresponding quote or idea.

I found myself easily relaxing at the turn of each page, imagining myself being transported into each photograph. Each quote or inspirational saying had its own depth. The meaning of depth to me, is that it could be applied in many different aspects of my own life and others. While I was able to easily read through the book in its entirety in less than 15 minutes. I plan on taking one saying or quote and photograph each day, using it as my mantra or focus for the day.

For example, one of my favorite sayings was: {The corresponding picture is of a shipwreck, laying on its side, along some rock. This ship is half submerged, weathered, wave-beaten, riddled with holes of various sizes-but the water is crystal clear bluish-green, bright blue sky filtered with a few white whispery clouds}

" An honest mistake is the first step towards a lesson learned--move on and do it better next time"

I wish I could show you the picture instead of trying to describe it- I truly cannot give the photograph the justice it deserves. This is one of my favorites because it is an show more inspiring way to look at my mistakes in life. I am very hard on myself in general when I make daily mistakes, so this really hit me at my core.

The photograph is what brought me to the point of truly understanding what this statement was really saying. I saw myself as this broken vessel of a ship, but I then saw the beauty behind it. Imagine that this was a possible mistake of a captain, crew, or ship builder. It could have caused secondary problems for family, business, etc. But now look at the beauty it has left behind, the lesson and inspiration that it has brought just one person. And now I am sharing it with you-this lonely shipwreck might be a result of one person's mistake, but it is now a visual reminder of a lesson to be learned.

I would recommend this book to anyone that would like to have motivation in its simplest form. Those that love photography would also enjoy escaping into the photographs provided. It is not a long {18 pages}, in-depth version so its greatest appeal is for those that don't want all the "extras".

This is the first book that I have ever read from Joyce, and I surely plan on reading more. The scene in the first chapter had me reeling, especially with the in depth details of the characters. These characters were true to life, with their "can't be bothered" attitude. As this novel does follow a real life event, I knew that it was going to be a one night read for me.

I enjoy novels that leave you guessing, Fair Disclosure provided just that. A guessing game to the end. I found the relationship between Jillian and Chad to be just as intriguing as the crime itself. The way the two interact adds almost a separate novel within the pages. Jillian and Chad's history was something that I have witnessed and was able to relate too. At least as far as the marriage and divorce part-Jillian's previous kidnapping-now that was so very subtle in the beginning. I liked how it evolved into furthering the depth of Jillian's character.

If you are looking for a great and very quick read, with twists-turns-and a fair share of plausible suspects Fair Disclosure is just the book for you. Be prepared to start the book and finish it before you realize it.
From the beginning to end you will be in for one heck of a roller coaster ride, especially if you are as emotional as I am. This book will keep almost anyone entertained, as it crosses over so many different area's. If you love mysteries and puzzles, you won't be able to help yourself in trying to pull together the true story before it is finally revealed. That is what I found myself doing, as I continued each chapter.

You do not have to be a mother to understand the feeling of fear, helplessness, anxiety that Junie experiences with her daughter. You don't need to be married to understand the tension that this can bring to a couple. I think this is what I loved most about the book, the true "reality" of the characters. The realizing that what people show on the outside can be so very different than what is really going on.

This is a book that I will treasure, and surely be reading over and over again. Since in essence this book became personal to me, it will be hard to top this book in my favorites of all time. I promise that this is a book that you will enjoy even if it is something you typically don't read. It will leave an effect on you, it will cause you to think.
Flames Of Love is the third sexy deposit in the bank of love from Melissa Fosters The Remington Series. She once again shows us her A writing skills with the journey of Siena and Cashs path to finding each other. And again her characters are exuberant in the way you connect with them. I am jealous that in our small town we do not posses anything close to Cash, the sexy, very HOT fireman. Heck, if we even had half the man that Cash is I would be shouting from my rooftop every moment of the day FIRE! FIRE! Did I mention that I am terrified of heights?

Melissa describes her characters in such detail that you cant stop yourself from making a mental picture of each one. The Remingtons have become part of my own secret family. I feel that I live vicariously through them, and would do anything to be in Sienas shoes. This gorgeous model brings such passion to the pages of the book. She might be a bit quirky and reckless but she brings so much to the plot. The two are opposites in my mind: a composed high-regarded hunk of meat and the other a silly childlike woman.

Melissa has brought so many fabulous characters to life throughout all her books. Each family adds a different layer to the over-all theory of finding true-love. Not being a romance lover, myself- I find it a marvel that I have loved these books so much. As each book comes to a close, I find myself yearning for another. show more Melissa Foster is an addiction that is one I dont intend to break. show less
The more novels that I read from Melissa Fosters Love In Bloom Series, the more I realize how addicted I am. She surely has earned her title of New York Times & USA Today bestselling & award-winning author in my opinion. Slope Of Love continued my fascination with the Remington clan and their journey through love, loss, and fierce passion.

Slope Of Love can be read on its own without starting from the beginning of the series, which is one of the reasons I have fallen in love with Melissas books. The fact that you can grab any novel and enjoy the story and not feel like you are missing any history. I do, however, suggest reading all of them-it has been one experience that I have enjoyed immensely at night during my few moments of quiet time.

Watching Rush work through his life, leaving behind his old ways of revolving women and choosing to go with his heart is a emotional journey for the reader as well as him. Melissa is able to capture the essence of what true love is, and seems to effortlessly build all her characters into the definition. You find yourself wanting to slip away into the lives of Rush and Jayla, you want to feel the strong emotions tied to them both.

As this series progresses, I cannot give it enough praise. I have noted that I have never been partial to ooey-gooey romances novels, but this series has changed that. I have found a deep appreciation for novels written in a way that makes the reader jealous of the characters show more within the pages of the book. This time around it is Jayla that has my jealousy in hyper-gear, she has a very hunky man that adores her to her soul. How many people can actually say that? I mean it is a passion that is so-strong, so-overwrought with fierce emotion that one would think that a person would be squashed by its power. The characters in all the books will leave an ever-lasting memory with you, you find yourself comparing your own relationship, you view other peoples relationship, and always compare to the Remington series. Or at least I found myself doing that. show less
Romance is not my usual genre, but as with all her books they have a way of whisking you away. Then before you know it you are lost within the characters of the book.

Speaking of characters, one of the unique qualities that you will find in any of the books is that you become connected to the characters. Each one has a personality that reminds you of someone in your life. These kinds of connections is what keeps you immersed within the pages. For example, Ellie struggling with trust issues. Who hasnt done that, this is further driven by her upbringing. Bringing characters, like Ellie to life, is what makes these books beyond good.

There are many feelings that you will encounter while reading Game Of Love. I myself, found frustration, love, being happy, sad, etc. Once you begin following this series, you will certainly want to read each novel for new relationships, new insights, and lots of loving entertainment.
I come from a very small town myself, a town of around 150 people. Small Town Trouble was a book I figured I could relate too easily. Oddly, I was able to do just that- except for the murder part. We didn't have any dangerous killers going around to the local nude bar, slitting throats and slicing off the "winkies" of our male population. Yes, you read that right!

I did struggle a bit at the beginning, but it was only because Kim's mother was referred to by the word "mother" or by her name Evelyn, so I found myself thinking I missed a key player in the story line. Once I got that straightened out, I found that the characters were developed well. Each of them very real and believable, to the point that some characteristics reminded me of people from home.

Small Town Trouble does not fully focus on murder, it does however focus on the struggles and life of Kim Claypoole. There are many "flashbacks" throughout the novel, that helps build Kim's character. It is hard not to give to much away. This book has the mystery, the odd murders, and the personal life struggles that I enjoy in a novel. I would suggest that any male that reads this book might think about staying away from area's that include bars with women showing off their "booballabies".

So, snuggle up, get comfortable and get ready to find out why people are being killed, who is this mysterious Mr. White that is paying lots of money for land, and what is so important that someone would kill for it!
I was recently lucky enough to review a couple of Diane Wing's books, the first being Thorne Manor...And Other Bizarre Tales. I originally intended and expected it to take a while to read this book, with seven kids, time is not always on my side. After the kids went to bed, I opened the book to start on the first short story. When all was said and done, I had read the whole thing! Yes, I stayed up all night and read it from cover to cover.

The first short story turned out to be my favorite, which also is the longest of the seven stories in this book. "Thorne Manor" is about a young woman who is trying to separate from her old life, including an abusive ex-husband, and moving on towards her own goals and dreams. Her first step was to find a new home, that she could also run her business ventures out of.

With help from a friend and real estate agent, Heather decides that Thorne Manor is her perfect place to begin her journey. Even though her friend does everything to discourage Heather's choice, Heather is drawn to Thorne Manor. She will do anything to obtain possession of this home, no matter if there are unseen forces looming in the home or if she has to strike up a deal with her shady ex-husband.

Go ahead and read how Heather's dream home becomes her "dream house of nightmares"{quote taken from Chapter 5} Does Heather succeed in her mission of living in the home and having a successful business? Or does Thorne Manor and its "ghostly" habitants get the last say?

The next six show more short stories were just as fascinating as the first. Each of these short stories were only a few pages long. Amazingly, Diane was able to develop strong characters and plot in a short amount of time. The ability to do this is undoubtedly very difficult, being drawn into each story within a paragraph or two.

Here is a little about each of these stories, without revealing any surprises;

Guardian at the Gate is about a determined demon that surfaces to take over the world. The demon gets more than he bargains for, in this seemingly innocent barber-shop of horror. This short story makes me really question the simple things, like plywood lying in the street.

The Black Sheep is a tale about a very troubled girl, named Amy, she decides that listening to her new spirit "friend" is better than her own psychotherapist. What danger can result in listening to her new "friend", changing her dress, and visiting the bar? See how Amy's life is changed forever with just those factors.

The Quiet Neighbors: This short story begins with an average housewife, that becomes a bit more annoyed by her husband as each day passes. The neighborhood complain and wonders why the housewife no longer keeping up the dilapidated home. What everyone learns in this story is "Reading ALL the directions" is very important when using witchcraft. Follow this housewife in her dealings with her first spell casting and pay close attention to the directions.

By Invitation Only: When a person loves and relies on their pet so much, it becomes too much to bare when these pets pass on. Loretta loved Toby this much, but see what happens when her dreams finally comes true. What comes of her dreams and wishes to see Toby again? Read and find out what Loretta is confronted with, is it evil or good? Only you can decide.

Dream State is where you meet Judith, you get to follow her transformation from meek to powerful. The power she gets from her dreams is life-changing, but are they only dreams?

Good Riddence is where Justin's hatred for cats becomes more than he can handle. See how Justin deals with this stray cat and the outcome of his actions.

By the time the last page was turned, bizarre is really a good word to use in the title of the book. Personally, I have yet to find an author that can develop a good plot and characters that you connect with in a few pages. Reading these short stories, you never know how they will end up, the guessing was half the fun.

While this was not intended to be a learn your ABC's book, I will say that putting emphasis on the letters both before and after each monster entry helped keep my 3 year old engaged. It is a fun way of introducing the alphabet to young children. My 3 year old was also able to wait for me to read the fairly long description of each monster before seeing the actual drawing of the monster. None of the monsters are scary enough to frighten children and they are not cute cartoony looking creatures either. In fact, I was impressed by the detail in both the illustrations and the descriptions of each monster. I would recommend when reading aloud that you keep it light, fun, and airy- as some of the descriptive behavior might be enticing for young ones to try. I wouldn't want my lil one to scrub their face with chocolate and chew on soap, as one monster in the book did. As long as the little ones know it is all in fun and make believe I see no issue with it.

Again, not intended to be a teaching book of the alphabet- it is still going to be a fun book to read to all my kids.
Amanda's Eyes is a fast paced action packed read. Could you imagine forgetting such a horrific event? I was pulled into the story and felt as I was living the full event as each sentence passed. I was a bit freaked out though, I have this "thing" about eyes- and well lets say my skin was crawling at points just at the thought of removing, replacing or messing with anyone's eyes. Ahh, the horror of just typing that!

The constant ups and downs of this book kept me wanting more. I found myself having to finish the book, just for the sake of finding out the mystery behind it all. You will find yourself submerged into the plot of Amanda's Eyes, each page bringing you to a new emotion, a tidbit of truth to solve the mystery, a leap forward to the unsuspected end. Will you see if there is rational in the irrational of A.J's story?
]This was a very enjoyable and exciting read, full of twists and turns with a dash or two of betrayal. All of which keeps you wanting to turn each page with more wonderment and energy, this was a quick read for me because of the storyline. The characters are well developed and compliment each other nicely. I am fully inclined to go back and read the first book in the series, just to further the background details on some of the major players.

Suspense is key theme in the book as a whole, so if this is something you are looking for, you will find it in this novel.
It is rare to experience a book were you feel as if the author as a very strong emotional connection. But that is just what happens as you begin absorbing the plot and characters within the pages of this book. Curse of the Moon is another novel that goes outside my comfort genre, usually I stay away from anything that may be a bit political or warlike. But something about this particular historic fiction novel compelled me to give it a shot.

I am very glad I did. I was able to live within Atchos character, feeling and thinking just as he must have. Anytime that an author can achieve that- I can guarantee that I will read it cover to cover in very short time. If you are looking for a fantastic book to read, Lee Jacksons Curse The Moon is one that you should get.

You will fall into the story, you will connect with the characters, you will feel as if the whole book is a true recollection from ones own experiences. In the end it is only fiction, but to be able to do this means that the author has an amazing ability for story-telling.
Review coming soon... Loved this book & able to read in one sitting. Illustrations were amazing and added so MUCH to the overall experience. Can't wait to share more...

Update: If you are looking for a book that will cause you to think twice about spending time up at a cabin in the woods, then this surely is it. BLUE NOVEMBER STORMS is an excellent tale of what goes wrong on an innocent get-together amongst friends.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Synopsis:
It's been twenty years since the friends known as the Lightning Five visited the Summer Place together. Twenty years spent living in the shadow of something they did in high school, an event that defined them forever in the minds of everyone in their small town. Now they're returning for what should be a relaxing weekend of hunting and fishing, a chance to reminisce about old times and forget their troubles... but mother nature has other plans in mind.

There's a storm brewing. A meteor shower is in the forecast, but it's going to be unlike any event in recorded history. This meteor shower is bringing change to the world, it's awakening the creatures of the forest from their quiet slumber... and before long, the Lightning Five are going to find themselves trapped on the roof of their cabin, with their numbers dwindling and supplies running low...

Trapped with no means of escape, the men will have to make some hard choices... like who gets to live and who has to show more die.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Spending a weekend with old friends in a cabin sounds like a blast. It should be a blast- drinking, telling of stories, just remembering old times. Even more special than having friends like that 20 years later, is the meteor shower that is going to be a spectacular event.

The author is able to bring these characters to life quickly, and easily allows the reader to become emotionally connected to each one. As the night wears on, the meteor shower starts, things begin to tragically turn into a wildlife nightmare.

The experiences these character had to endure were brought to life with amazing detail. You could see the events unfolding before your eyes (there were also exquisite illustrations by Glen Chadbourne that made the whole experience better). You fear the decisions that end up being made and you mourn the outcome of the descruction that the meteor shower brought.

BLUE NOVEMBER STORMS was a unique read full of detail, fright, and exceptional illustrations. I enjoyed every page of this book. I am excited to continue to seek out more from this author and hope to find more artwork from the illustator.

Review in the works....Fantastic read with very interesting characters.
So many wonderfully spooky short stories in packed into this book. I loved the connection with the 1st and last story. The book couldn't have ended in a more perfect way.

Update:

First off, I really respect the thought put into a disclaimer of sorts, stating that if you are sensitive to the death of children you should see a list of stories to skip. Being a person that unexpectedly lost my 14 year old 5 years ago, I really gained a lot of respect for this author before even reading the first short story.

With that said, each of the stories were wonderful. Each of the 16 short stories are different with the exception of the 1st and last story (more about that later). The synopsis captures the overall feel of the book in its entirity:

"Monsters take many forms—mythical creature, human, inner demon, fear… When confronted by such savage beasts, the vulnerability of humanity is often exposed. These sixteen horror stories explore the supernatural, as well as real life horror associated with grief, guilt, severed relationships, and severed limbs."

My most memorable stories in the book were:

Lucid Screaming: (which does involve children) Red Lagoe's use of words create such profound feelings and as a reader you can easily be sucked into a story. This story hit me hard because of the situation that these two children, Lily & Ben, were in. I felt such sadness for them and such anger for the mother. The anger soon faded into disappointment. The last few paragrahs of the story show more brought tears to me eyes.

Odor Motis: This one was just so disturbing. It left me feeling haunted. How can this kind of person exsist? What could cause someone to go through life thinking that THIS is okay? Just overall terror that possibly someone could be afflicted with such a desire. On the otherhand, it is kind of sweet in a" horrific, I need help", kind of way.

Helping Hands Retreat: This short story had me stunned. To think this poor girl was only trying to get away from a bad situation and literally chose the wrong fork in the road, leading to a nightmare much worse. The ending was perfection!

Empty Nest: This was a great heartbreaking story. It's attached to the first story in the book. It left my eyes weeping and my heart broken, but I was squealing with happiness as Joe leaves the house.

This is one of my favorite books of the year featuring short stories. I love the authors style of writing, so much so that I plan on searching for more of her work.

The author graciously sent me a copy for my review.

I have showcased Rebels many a few times on my blog, and having the privilege to review it, warrants having it showcased! I find novels that are written in first person, fascinating. I find myself connecting with the character on a more personal level. Rebels tells of what happens when the world is destroyed and the "state" becomes control of absolutely everything. This novel was a one-sit down-read for me, which only happens when the story draws me in immediately.

John whom is telling the first person account of what is happening, is only 15 years old. That is hard to keep in mind, considering the maturity that he displays. This adds a hidden element to me of, how young he is but he has had to adapt to a whole new world.

I think that this book was a complete hit with me, because of the "truth" that came out of it. The world being controlled in this manner is a reality that could happen at any moment. This fear is what kept me engaged within the story. Can you imagine being told what to eat, when to eat, what you can or cannot have, or even when and how you can laugh?

I highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys reading books that include action, personal accounts {first person story telling}, and the possible "reality" story-lines. Rebels is something much more than a "story" being told, it also gives you things to think about. The what would you do? Could you adapt? How could or would you survive? It leaves readers with a tinge of fear that will last, especially show more if you begin paying close attention to any local & world news reports show less
