Moving, inspiring, sobering. One of the best readings I had in these years.

Quando lo finisci la sindrome da rientro di colpisce in pieno. Subito vengono a mancare le decine di popoli, di sorrisi, di tensioni di vita che ti hanno accompagnato durante tutta la lettura di questo magnifico libro. Non é mai giusto secondo me paragonare le fatiche di persone diverse, pero' in questo caso lo faccio, come complimento: "La frontiera" di Erika Fatland é a mio modesto avviso un libro da accoppiare al meraviglioso "Buonanotte, Signor Lenin" dello strepitoso Terzani.

A book that should be read by everyone at least once in life

Not a scientific essay, more like a poetic scientific divulgation / manifesto. The author clearly tries to create an emotional connection with the reader, aiming to wake up a sense of urgency and awareness. There are many poetic descriptions of the beauty that we are going to lose, there are sources, there are personal memories like the ones anyone can have, there are interviews to public important people and pictures of each of the things just mentioned. In other words, the communication of the message is tried at every possible level, increasing indeed that sense of urgency and of importance of the message. Magnason managed to instill me for the first time in my life a feeling of eco-anxiety. Success.

Nicely written, well explaining, I have not being annoyed by ubiquitous bias. I totally enjoyed it.

About this collection of articles and short stories, I can surely say that some of them are unforgettable, others will not leave a sign in my memories.

Godibilissima serie di racconti. La capacità immaginifica di Hoffmann gli permette di trasportarci in mondi onirici, a volte fiabeschi a volte da incubo, in ogni caso realmente accattivanti.

L'eleganza di Tabucchi e la misteriosa e carezzevole atmosfera indiana. Cosa si può volere di più?

Primo libro di Terzani a cui mi approccio e sicuramente uno dei più bei reportage giornalistici che abbia mai letto. Terzani ti prende per mano e ti accompagna sul sentiero della Storia, la Storia delle persone, dei paesaggi, degli odori, del vociare dei mercati e dei bisbigli spaventati di oppositori politici e spie di regime. La sua profonda empatia, la sua sensibilità, il suo interesse per la condizione umana, conditi da una sincera curiosità lo rendono un compagno di viaggio eccezionale. Grazie Tiziano

Ironico e toccante. Da Zerocalcare non mi aspettavo niente di diverso. Aspettative non solo rispettate ma anche superate.

Collection of stories. The average score I would assign the the book is 2.7 (rounded up to 3). A couple of the short stories are small gems, but overall I would not recommend it.

Poetic. Anyway magic realism is not really my thing.

The plot is attractive and the writing keeps you sticking to the book, but the misogyny of the author is simply unbearable and given for free without any connection to the plot.

Enlightening, to be read more than once.

Personally I was expecting a bit more of geography and a bit less of "fast food history" but it was nevertheless interesting. I found the first book, "Prisoners of Geography", the best of the two.

Ho provato a leggerlo in lingua originale e con il mio attuale livello di francese non é stato cosi semplice devo dire. Per cui puo' essere che lo abbia apprezzato meno di quanto meritasse, per questo le 4 stelline piene, un po' sulla fiducia diciamo.

Alcune delle immagini evocate pero' sono evidentemente molto intense e potenti, come quelle riguardanti l'ipotetico aldilà immaginato dal condannato, o l'incontro con la figlioletta.

A bit too much about rituals and formulas and very little plot.

First 100 pages interesting and entertaining, but I found the rest quite boring and excessively long. Not mentioning the bleak remarks/comments of the author widely discussed in other reviews.

It's written in its time and you can feel it. And that feeling in this case is not that pleasant.
