Vary enjoyable reading experience. Great characters, well plotted, highly recommended. I need to read more of these books - I've only read this one and Seventy-Seven Clocks, so I have to start catching up. British mysteries are my favorites!
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. This was a fast-paced, very suspenseful book, and also showed what can happen when nobody believes what you've gone through. Scary to think about, but I'll enjoy reading more books by Liz Lawler.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Mary Handley seemed a bit too out of character-I'd like to find out more about the real Mary Handley. However, the story was interesting, the use of real historical characters was very good, though I don't believe everything said about them was true. I've long know about the rivalry between Tesla and Edison, but the thought that Edison would stoop to murder anyone in his way was hard to swallow.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Wonderful book! I hope to try each and every recipe in it. Wish there were more pictures of the meals, but the ones there are are quite nice.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Interesting story and characters - a nice little English cozy mystery. I never recieved An Advent for Murder, but enjoyed this one enough so that I will probably try to find it on my own.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Interesting, fast paced, entertaining book. This is the first I've read by Gerry Boyle, but I will definitely read more of them. I especially liked the variety of characters and how the year-old facts of the mystery were teased out. A good read.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.I used to really enjoy this series - up until Cat of the Century. There is so much political preaching and Ms. Browne has become so fond of her soapbox that I don't know that I will be reading any more. I don't remember the early books being so full of prejudice and trying to push ideas down your throat. The actual mysteries have been getting lost in all the sermonizing (about many different beliefs), and if I want to read any more of these, I think I'll just go back and read the earliest ones. It might be different if it felt like the preaching was furthering the story, but it just feels like she's trying to express as many of her own opinions through her characters as possible. Entirely inappropriate! No more lecturing, please!
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. This book was much better than Cat of the Century, but there was still a little too much soap-box lecturing for my taste. At least the mystery didn't get completely lost in the sermonizing. Ms. Brown's earlier books were much better, and I hope in her future ones she will entirely forego the political and religious opinions, which are entirely unsuitable for this type of book. A cozy mystery should be just that - cozy!
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Very enjoyable, fast, gripping read. Good plot and interesting, realistic characters. I've already bought Black Irish and am looking forward to reading more about Abbie Kearney!
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. While I absolutely hate the style in which it was written (present tense), I read it for a book club at work, and while still unhappy that it was in present tense, I found the story and characters very interesting. I would love to visit this circus if it existed!
This is the first Matt Royal mystery I have read. I found the plot interesting, the characters mostly believable (I'd like to be friends with Jock), and the whole story entertaining. I will definitely be going back to read Mr. Griffin's earlier books, and look forward to more.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. It's always a pleasure to read a new Anna Pigeon book, and this was no exception. Great characters and plot (though a little more violent than I prefer), and a very quick-paced read. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat, wondering what will happen next. I continue to look forward to more books by Nevada Barr.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. If I had simply picked this book up in a bookstore and glanced through it, I never would have bought it, because I intensely dislike books written in present tense. However, as I got it through the early Reviewer's group, I forced myself to read it. I would have enjoyed it greatly if it had been written in past tense, but I found it wasn't quite as annoying as other books in present tense, and the story was good, with great characters and plot. It is very unusual for me to actually buy a book in present tense, but this story was so good that I immediately bought Talking to the Dead and look forward to more books about Fiona Griffiths.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. This was a fast and easy book to read, pleasant but very similar to others I have read. I figured out the ending very early on in the book, but still found it a little too much like other books in this genre. I don't know if I would go out of my way to read any other books by this author, but may give her another chance.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Excellent read! This is the first book I've read by Sandra Brannan, and I am definitely going to have to read the ones I've missed and the ones she writes in the future. The characters seemed like real people and the plot moved quickly and kept me reading. I'm really looking forward to her other books!
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Win, Place, or Die: A Milan Jacovich / K.O. O'Bannion Mystery (Milan Jacovich Mysteries) by Les Roberts
This is only the second book by Les Roberts that I have read, but I've enjoyed them both. I have learned more about harness racing than I ever expected. I can't say this is one of my favorite series, but it is an interesting one and one I will probably read more of.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Great read! I didn't discover the Kathy Mallory books until The Chalk Girl, but have become a devoted fan of the series since. I have several still waiting to be read, and I can't wait to get to them. Well written, well plotted, and with great characters. I look forward to this series continuing for a long time.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.I have very mixed feelings about this book. It wasn't very long, which was good, but the plot seemed rather worn and the characters were not terribly believable. However, on another level I did enjoy parts of it very much. I'm not sure yet if I'll look for any more of this author's books.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Very enjoyable story - I especially liked the way she was helped in her investigation by her father's ghost. I'm looking forward to more books by this author about this group of people. This is a series that could easily get better as it progresses.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Excellent read. I haven't read many books by Jonathan Kellerman yet (though I did read The Butcher's Theater, which was excellent, and I've read all of Faye Kellerman's books), and I can tell that I need to go back and start reading this series from the beginning. Interesting plot and characters, it definitely kept my interest. I'm looking forward to reading the others, and any future books he writes.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Fast-paced, interesting story with interesting characters and a glimpse into life in Cuba. I've read other books about Cuba, and this one reinforced my views of what life there is like. While I wasn't at all surprised by the ending - I'd suspected the culprit early-on - it was an enjoyable read and I look forward to seeing what comes next in this new series.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Quick, pleasant read, nothing special but still enjoyable. I enjoyed the inclusion of the recipes (haven't tried them yet, but intend to soon). I may have to check out the earlier books to form a more complete opinion.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. This may have been an entertaining book had it not been written in present tense. I did read it but was so annoyed by the writing style that I doubt I will read any others in this series. The characters were fairly interesting. I just wish there was a warning on books telling what style they were written in so I would know which ones to avoid. I don't mind first person, third person, or past tense (though I have friends who absolutely hate first person), but present tense is something I'd like to avoid, considering there are so many good books out there to be read in a more pleasant style.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Well-written, interesting characters. While I am not normally a fan of books with plots about terrorists, this book kept my attention throughout. I have only read one other book by these authors, but I think I will have to go back and catch up, as the core characters seem to all have intriguing back-stories and I'd like to learn more about them and how they came to be where they are. I look forward to reading more Monkeewrench books.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Very good read with well-thought out plot and characters. This is the first book by Jaden Terrell that I have read, but now I will go back and read the first one and will definitely look forward to any she writes in the future.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Entertaining story with interesting characters. This was a very fast read with a plot that just kept moving. Looking forward to seeing where this new author goes.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. This is the second book by Connie Dial that I have read, and I have enjoyed both of them. Interesting, believable storyline and characters made for a fast-moving, entertaining read. Josie Corsino is good at her job, less successful in her private life, as many people are, and I have to say I wouldn't have wanted to be her child as she was still trying to control her son at the age of 22 instead of letting him learn from his own choices and mistakes. I look forward to more books about these characters!
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. This book, like all of Deborah Crombie's books, was a joy to read. She does such good research and pays such attention to detail that I can hardly wait for her to come out with another one. I love the characters and learning about their history as well as the mystery itself. Deborah Crombie is in an elite group of authors that go the extra mile to make their books a cut above the normal. I hope she continues to write this series for many, many years to come.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. This was a very good story, but I would have enjoyed it much more if it had not been written in present tense. However, the present tense in this book was less annoying than I have found in other books.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.I found this to be a fairly interesting read with interesting characters. However, I'm not a fan of graphic torture and could have used fewer details about it. If this is the beginning of a series, and Geiger really is "getting out of the business," I would be interested in reading about what he makes of his life afterwards.
