“Esperanza Rising,” by Pam Munoz Ryan has been one of my favorite books so far. Esperanza is from Aguascalientes, Mexico. Esperanza has many friends in her school, and home as well. At first Esperanza lives a great life with her father, her mother, and her grandmother. She has fancy clothes, and shoes, she doesn’t have to worry about cleaning her house or do laundry, but when suddenly her father dies, her life changes completely. After her father’s death Esperanza and her mother were forced to moved to California.

It talks of how difficult it is for her to live different, not only she has to learn how to help around the house she lives in later, but she also has to take care of her mother when she becomes ill, because of depression, and can’t work anymore. Esperanza goes through a lot in her live, and has to work, cook, take care of babies, do laundry, and other things that she has never done. But she also has a lot of good people helping her out. And even though at the beginning of the conflicts she had, Esperanza becomes strong and different. She learns so many things, and learn how to live around the people that are with her. She accomplish what she wanted, and does a great job with her jobs, making her mother proud of the person she has become.

The author Pam Munoz Ryan, was inspire to write this book by her grandmother. "When I was a child,” she said “I always assumed my grandmother grew up in poverty because the stories she told were primarily about show more raising her children in farm labor camps in California in the 1930s. It wasn't until I was a young woman that she told me about her childhood in Mexico. I was so moved by her riches-to-rags fairytale that I felt compelled to share her story." -- Pam Munoz Ryan. Pam Munoz Ryan used the same names for the characters in the book. She also explains how unlike Esperanza in the book, her grandmother was marry already by the time she moved to California.

I loved this book since I starter reading it. I just love how Esperanza becomes so different through out the story. This teaches us not to give up, and to keep trying no matter what the problem is. I absolutely recommend this book to everyone, because I really think you will love it. I also think that in some way this book relates to all of us, and makes us think differently, about our situations, and our lives in general.

This book talks about problems, relationships, family, friends, school, and much more. One of the things I liked a lot, was that this book is so easy to read. I actually think anybody can read it without any problem. This book can actually help you a lot to figured some problems out, because if you are going to some kind of problem like the character is, you can find the answers right there, which I think it was a very smart thing for the author to include. It does not just give you the problem, but it also give you the answer of the problem. In most of the stories they talk about relationships between young girls and boys. The reason for this, I think, is because that is what most of our lives is about, and thast kind of where it begins to take place. I would really like for show more you to read this book if you have not read it, trust me you will love it. show less
