Lisa Genova graduated from Bates College with a degree in Biopsychology and has a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Harvard University. She is the author of the New York Best Times Bestselling novels Still Alice and Left Neglected. She’s a really good writer and a lot of people can relate to her novels. Anyone who knows someone in their family or that they’re close to with a debilitating disease won’t be able to put this book down; it’s so personal and brilliant.

In Still Alice, Lisa is a master of getting into the heads of her characters. Alice develops early onset Alzheimer’s. Alice is a Harvard Professor and has three kids and a husband. The disease begins to get in the way of her job and family. Think about it, she is a successful professor at a college where students and/or their parents spend thousands of dollars for you to teach them and you have a disease that allows you to forget lessons, meetings, flights, when to teach, where rooms are in your house, and even your own daughters play she was hoping you would be at. The journey Lisa Genova takes you on in Left Neglected is also personal, especially for any woman who has ever had to go to a full day’s work at a high powered job, only to start the 2nd shift as a mother.

Overall, the novel is amazing and I would be able to read it multiple times. You won’t regret picking this book and will probably suggest it to someone after reading it. If you like books about remembering what matters most in life – family, show more then this is the book for you. I would give this book 5 out of 5! show less
