As I am well over half-way to the protagnonist's age, the feelings and thoughts he expresses are easily identified with. Much has been said about the ending as being a bit cute, too convenient and perhaps even silly. From my perspective, the ending is told through the eyes of a very old man whose memory is faulty at best. We are given an ending that he wishes for and may actually believe occurred, which makes it bitter sweet.
