Improved as it went on - I kind of felt like Maki's character development in the beginning and middle of this arc was rushed. Kamo felt superfluous, and I didn't care for either Daido or Miyo - both felt not only shoehorned in, but frankly goofy - like they came in from a different series. Both had some standout moments, but the core presentation of their characters plus the clumsy way they were introduced didn't work for me.
That said, it basically all cancels out by the fact that I was locked the fuck in for Maki resolving the situation towards the end. Veeery cool scene. I said the beginning and middle of Maki's arc in this volume failed for me - the end absolutely worked. I'm also really interested in the plot implied by the last chapter - really curious to see where this goes with Hana, Sukuna, and Yuji.

Don't read this before the first three Night Angel books. It does technically take place chronologically before them, but you're meant to read those three first.
Good - held back by feeling a bit disjointed. A lot of the cool, gruesome, evocative, clever moments you expect from the Midcyru franchise, but it definitely feels like Weeks isn't used to having to be concise, so its attention span can feel scattershot, especially compared to the books.

Really digging Gabimaru and Sagiri's mutually beneficial development so far - excited to see what Shinsenkyo has in store for them - seems really messed up so far, can't wait to see it get even worse.

Yuko Tsukumo's super cool. Choso's really cool. Kenjaku's really cool. Megumi using rational logic to breakdown whatever the hell Yuji has going on is really cool. Gege Akutami's understanding of the American government... eehhhhhh. I'm a bit nervous about how this is going to wind up, this subplot has big GATE: JSDF-tier aura coming from it.
