What a fun little book!  I’m a school librarian, and I can see myself reading this to my students.  There’s an online companion to the book at www.challenge-island.com with worksheets to go along with it.   3 students are called out of ordinary circumstances by magic to have a harrowing adventure on mini islands in, well, who knows where?  There’s a parrot and a STEM challenge, and the importance of teamwork.  I hope to add the other books in the series to our collection.

I enjoyed this one! The main character is the same age as my 6th grade daughter. Maple wrestles with feelings of inferiority after being held back in school. She also grapples with her multifaceted identity as a girl of Jewish and Eastern Indian descent. I felt like this was a relatable story, and I'm hopeful that my students (I run a school library) will enjoy Welcome Back, Maple Mehta-Cohen as much as I did.

This picture book made me want to book a flight back to China to see these masks in person. It’s about an archeological discovery that I had never heard of. Giant bronze masks. China is a fascinating place with a rich history that is so much longer than ours. This book will have you wanting to travel there, too.
Okay, this book is adorable! I’m going to be running the library at a small, private school this year, and I’m so glad I found this little treasure. I’m planning to read it to the preschoolers and the K/1st class.

The puppy follows the boy’s bus to school, and experiences school from a dog’s point of view—lots of feet and knees. This book captures the devotion we all long for in a pet.
