Sleeping With Bad Boys: A 1956 Playboy Model's Escapades with James Dean, Hugh Hefner, Norman Mailer and the famous writers of the 1950's beat generation by Alice Denham
I Met Alice in the Barnes and Noble at Union Square. She was wonderfull and she signed my book. She spoke regretfully of Bill Gaddis.I told her how my Uncle Bill showed up at my house with Ethel "Ethyl" Merman who used to sing while my Grandfater played the piano. Ethel just bragged about finishing with her "shortest marriage ever." She was not too happy. They were both extremely drunk and it was 3AM. Ethel sang and complained more about Borgnine. I realized after reading her book that Uncle Bill had just left Alice alone in the middle of the night, but his druckenness that night was normal.Later I assured her that she was better off and that she still looked tremendous... After asking her to dinner she had to add "but I am married." The offer is still open and it would be great to take them both to dinner. Alice was the first to show up in pictures in Playboy and in the same issue publish a story. She's amazing!
One of the best explanations given about the way people make their way through organisations.
Excellent and overly sad story about the very end of a culture...
Read this on Block Island where I met a barmaid who was reading the same book. She was very upset when I said that it contained nothign that we did not hear every day.... I suggested that it was just sensationalized because it was Gore.... Could this be????
This is an old story that was in print years ago. I found it in college in the 70's
One of the first and most unusual memoirs of all time. Abe Abe Abe the newsboy hero of over a thousand fights. Not only does it diverge from the tradition of old boxing stories it is a self published affair.
I only read it because I had friend that lived near the house. I understood the owners wrote the book then departed the house. The book then came out. I remember seeing people in stupors hanging out in front of the house and sticking crusifixes in the ground. It was bizzare and at the same time intersting. How many nuts you have walking around your neighborhood?
Tropical Gangsters: One Man's Experience With Development And Decadence In Deepest Africa by Robert Klitgaard

The Man Who Walked Through Time: The Story of the First Trip Afoot Through the Grand Canyon by Colin Fletcher
A great look at some on who spent a life walking while considering philosophy, history, and methodologies. One of my favorite saying from Colin is: Hell is where the police are Italian, the politicians are French and the cooks are English......
This a must read. It has so much to say about a recently lost generation.
This is a must read. I found it more than releveant to my families experience in the boxing world.
This book started with a wonderful description of the gods of the greeks and romans and how each was pertinent to our human condition
