You have to be inclined to like light black humour and the bizarre. I do in general, but reading most of the book last night after the loss of a family member, I found it very therapeutic.
The first part of a trilogy, comprising German's history since about 1900, with a focus on Berlin. Not very intellectual, but entertaining
Hey Boo!
Hands down my favourite book ever! I'm sad I didn't discover it earlier in my life

what promised to be funny only had surprisingly many thoughtful ponderings
The King!!!! Unfortunately it doesn't cover his whole life, I could've read on and on..
Great historical novel, horribly edited in this edition though
Superfunny, though giving a quite scary outlook on German youths ? :)
depicts antisemitism before Hitler in a frightening way
wasn't in the mood for it at the time. Will give it another chance some time
A load of characters which made it hard to keep an overview.
one of those books you really don't like to read, but they leave you breathless and make you turn page after page. And you get scared like crazy, when you imagine something like this happening in the book for only one minute
sexy read, though not very suspenseful. Acceptable chick-lit
Like part 1, for people who can take a bit of the macabre and dark humor. Also very therapeutic to be able to laugh about our common fear of death.
Hm, torn between giving 3 or 4 stars, I finally settled on 3.
The male perspective was rare to me and interesting to read, the book contained a lot of refreshing, realistic situations, like having to think of something funny or totally mundane in a situation where you're expected to be shocked or sad.
I liked the plot and wanted to continue reading, but somehow in the last 2-3 chapters, I completely lost interest in the characters and their fate. I don't know why. It left me shrugging my shoulders and thinking "whatever".
I'm looking forward to see the movie some day though.

Songs for the Open Road: Poems of Travel and Adventure (Dover Thrift Editions) by The American Poetry & Literacy Project
I love the "old-fashioned" poetry, like Longfellow, Byron, Poe even, but modern poetry isn't for me.
Besides, a well-chosen collection

I didn't blow me away like it did in the first run 9 years ago, but still one of the best chick-lit thrillers/series out there. This one was okay funny, if I remember correctly the fun gets more hilarious as the series continues. Was surprised that it was more suspenseful than I thought it was. On to the next one soon!
I'm looking forward to watch the movie, so I wanted to get done with the book first.
Gave it 60 pages; I'm sure it's not bad and maybe it's just me at the moment, but the style keeps me trailing off of the page after every second sentence, and there are so many names and characters thrown at you, that I don't have the endurance to read it right now.
Will move on to the movie, and keep the book, maybe for later years.

Good and interesting, with lots of suggestions, still (as in book one) a bit out-fashioned and some categories wouldn't have been necessary for me, but okay: no need to argue about tastes...
Nothing out of the ordinary, but likeable characters and a bittersweet storyline.
Contrary to much of what I'd heard and read, I loved Oskar, the narrator, and I found the book very gripping and heartfelt. Something totally different, not necessarily plotwise, but how it is transported to the reader. Impressed me deeply!
An okay in-between-read. Some things quite funny, but also much exaggerated!
I wouldn't necessarily praise his style as many have done before.
It *just* contains interesting, suspenseful stories based on his real-life cases, with often interesting turns.

I got to know the author when he gave a speech about his life in my highschool.
If I hadn't heard him speak in person about it, I wouldn't believe the experiences he made in the Third Reich, so incredible is his struggle for survival as a Jew in a Nazi society!
Highly recommendable!

It's so good and heartwarming, how Fadiman speaks about books.
Everyone who loves books with a passion should read it!
You will recognize yourself many times (I surely did!)
