The Mark of Athena
By: Rick Riordan

The Mark of Athena is part of the Heroes of Olympus series. They are written by the author of the Percy Jackson series, Rick Riordan. It is the third book of the series. Rick Riordan writes a lot about mythology, espacially greek mythology which this series is based off of. Both the Percy Jackson and The Heroes of Olympus series have demigods; which are half human half god. Each book has a different story but each series has a bigger story. The series tell the stories of some of the demigods.
The Mark of Athena is about a group of good friends that are demigods. They Have teamed up to retrieve and ancient artifact from Rome. They have tons of obstacles to overcome from Hercules to Spiders. One demigod named Annabeth has a big obstacle. Her mother Athena the god of planning and wisdom. She asks of her daughter to retrieve something her mother lost to the romans. But her mother’s rival is protecting it and she is a biter.
This book was a page turner, it is one of Rick Riordan’s best. It is a great book for mythology lovers and book lovers. I like that it is fast pace, but it does sometimes gets confusing on who is talking. I would suggest this book to ten and up. All in all I think this is a great book.

Ranger Apprentice: Lost Stories

The Lost Stories are part of the Ranger Apprentice series. It is like an encore for all the books John Flanagan has done. It is made up of separate small stories that intertwine with the on going story of the plot of all his books. To start the book they have some archeologist find some of the old stories that were lost, which explains the name. The stories sometimes explain different questions that where left unknown in the main story line. All the stories take place in the Kingdom of Araluen. The stories switch from character to character depending on the story.
Some of the stories explained some of the questions that were not answered in the main story plot. Like Halts Origin (Halt is Will’s teacher who is the main character), where he came from and some of the details of who he is and was. One of the Ranger Apprentice readers asked John Flanagan what happened to the rangers’ horses because it seemed that one of the horses was functioning to well longer than it should. So John Flanagan made a story explaining what happened to the horses after they don’t function well enough for the user. The last story hinted at the new series John Flanagan is making, that is called The Brotherband Chronicles.
This book is great, but you would have to read all of the other books to understand it. Once you read all of the other books you will enjoy this book. After I read the book I felt sad that the whole series was show more over. At least John Flanagan is making a new series. I thought this was a good book for almost age group. This book was defiantly not the best book in the series, but it was good. Most of the books in the ranger apprentice series were good. show less

Alex Rider: Storm Breaker

Storm Breaker is the first book in the Alex Rider series. Anthony Horowitz is the author of this series. The book is about a teenage boy living every boy’s dream, to become a spy. But when he realizes it is not his dream it is to late to turn back. Now he is a fully pledged agent in a secret organization called M16. There is no way to get out of the job.
Alex was a normal boy at the beginning, then he got a call, his uncle was dead. At the funeral he saw a man with a concealed gun. His curiosity took over, so he went to investigate. He found out that his uncle didn’t just die in a car accident he was murdered. He ends up working for a group call M16. It turns out that his Uncle worked for them too, but he never told Alex. Alex has to finish what his uncle started. He will have to investigate a shady millionaire. While he is with the millionaire named Sayle, he discovers that Sayle is planning on killing lots of people. Alex might not get to Sayle before then. Alex is walking on a wire thinner than a spider web.
The one part I really did not like about the book, was that he would build something up then it was downgraded. For example Anthony Horowitz built up how important the mining shafts were, but then it just turned out that they were just passageways. I like how descriptive the book was though. When they explained what he would do with each gadget and all the action it was involved in. I think this is a show more wonderful book. I found that it was an easy and fun read. show less

The Rise of Nine

The book the rise of nine is a thrilling book about an alien race trying to survive. Not only that but they have to try to save Earth as well. Before you read this you should read the first two books if you have not yet because it won’t make any sense. They came from Lorien on a ship escaping the grasp of the cruel and rut; hless Mogadorians. At the beginning there were nine, the Mogadorians got to three, six are left fighting to survive and fight back.
The book the rise of nine is a book about six kids ,all of which are aliens from Lorien. They had come to Earth to hide and train away from the Mogadorian’s clutches. Each one has a Capen, their Capens are there to protect, mentor, and guide them. They train far from each other so it is harder for the Mogadorians to find them all. Then finally they will all find each other and fight the Mogs and retake Lorien. Each of the Garde the nine that came to Earth has legacies which are special and unique powers that come to there owners when they are ready.
In some spots in the book it is confusing because the author does not tell you right away who is speaking. But I like the way the author did the chapters, one story to another then back to that story. I like that because you have to keep reading to find out more and that moves the book fast. All in all I think it was a good book because it had more good parts than bad ones. So it would be a great book for young adults.
