This was the first time I ever read this book all the way through. I finished it in one sitting and found it to be absolutely joyful. It was written when my grandmother was 3 years old and she read it to my father and uncle but recalls reading much before that. I felt connected to that earlier time when I read it and remembered my mother reading the little golden book Winnie the Pooh stories to me as a child. I think this is still very relevant in the classroom. It would make a great read aloud about friendship in kindergarten and first grade and would be a nice introduction to the elements of chapter books at the end of 2nd grade or when students were ready. The themes of this book include: growing up, friendship, imagination, kindness, going slow, carelessness, understanding and bravery.
Shark Lady: The True Story of How Eugenie Clark Became the Ocean's Most Fearless Scientist by Jess Keating
I loved reading about Eugenie Clark as a kid but this new book is even better. It's beautiful and engaging for young readers and should be in every classroom.
This is inventive and fun and teaches kids all about this form of poetry. Students in most grades will likely love creating their own concrete poem!
This is a sweet read for young children about friendship, happiness and kindness. There are many lesson plans on line geared at preschool and kindergarten students. It would make a lovely discussion on the value of friendship and kindness as well as what we can do to cheer up our friends. This book isn't an excellent example of good consent practices but that discussion could be had also. Even young children can explore how to listen to each others words.
This book is a strong read aloud for families or for in the classroom. I would be cautious in the classroom as long all children have this kind of love and safety at home. Themes include: love, kindness, childhood, families, trauma and perseverance, teamwork, joy and struggle.
This is a glorious and challenging children's book that handles a painful but empowering story with grace and beautiful illustrations.
This is such a sweet little story about caring for nature and slowing down to see where beauty lives. It is excellent for sharing with children from infancy on up, my eleven year old even enjoyed it. Themes include: nature, kindness, beauty, work and love. I loved the way the story mimicked the love a parent has for a child.
Themes include: diversity, self acceptance, identity, respect, creativity, LGBTQ identities. I love this sweet book. Kids often see themselves in Red and find frustration with his peers. This is a great diversity read for younger kids.
This sweet little book is a delightful and fun read to share with kids. It is full of alliteration and onomatopoeia and it's a great resource to teach those tools. There are plenty of Spanish words and Mexican cultural references to explore.
This is a great math and literacy text that is relevant across many grade levels.
This is excellent for kindergarten and first grade because some kids are ready for stories but others still need some letter support and they can enjoy the stories as well.
This book has limited text and very engaging, colorful illustrations with sweet and funny details on every page. The major themes are acceptance, flexibility, and friendship.
OAT One awesome thing is eventually a sweet connector for Waylon and his Sister. This book deals with the reality of peer conflicts and preteen dynamics. It is a lovely read and has so many delightful moments of science and excitement. Waylon is not the typical masculine boy character. Hes sensitive, open, peaceful, interesting and smart. This is a great addition to the character set for middle grade readers.
I read this for the Fantasy discussion and Postcard project.
This is a great back to school or first school book. I have read it to my class on the first day for my entire career and they always love it. Themes include, new experiences, school, friends, expectations, and nervousness.
This book was very cute and I loved the culturally specific retelling. The animals were called by their spanish names which was a nice detail.
This is a great traditional hero story and one that opens the door to interest in mythology for many kids and adults. It is also a great book to use to discuss heroics and character motivations. There are many characters for students to choose for a character study in this book.
This is a wonderful creation story that says so much about the Island of Puerto Rico and its first people. After reading the story my daughter said " I didn't know Puerto Rico had forests and pumpkins and flowers! it sounds beautiful!
This book would be a wonderful compliment to a discussion about modern Puerto Rico, Islands, ancient peoples and even geography. The water color images are bright and beautiful and could tell the story even without text.

This book includes four main sections based on the seasons and an focus for each. It also includes information on including science and nature in our everyday lives and caring for the environment. This is supported by a glossary, quizes, and references to additional resources.

This book is a wonderful one to share with a class when discussing kindness and the beauty of differences. The themes include, family, childhood, lgbtq community, marriage and love. I loved this book!
This is a delightful mix of non fiction informational and almost a biography as we often personify the statue as lady liberty. This book is adoring, hopeful and inspiring. The cut paper, watercolor and acrylic mixed media illustrations are delightful and very well done. The text is simple and easy to read at about a first grade level. Dave Eggars has outdone himself in representing the dignity, symbolism and welcoming message of Lady Liberty with text, Illustrator, Shawn Harris did a lovely job showing the huge proportions of Lady liberty with bright, beautiful colors and sweet details. I loved this book! It's a wonderful read for these difficult times in our country.
Kids love the catchy and exciting tone of this book and the humor of the miscommunication between the bears and the humans. This is a great book to use when teaching about personification.
