Beautiful illustrations fill the pages of this nicely written story of a little boy having a blast on a snow day. The story captures a little boys adventures playing in the snow by himself. He couldn't care if he is by himself, the snow is his friend and that is all that matters to him. As the boy goes home after playing he picks up a ball of snow and places it in his pocket, hoping that when he wakes up the next morning it will still be there. As he woke the next day the snow was gone. The boy was sad until he looked outside and saw that it had snowed even more. This is a great book for young children. The pictures tell the story without the words.
Most people tell a couple fibs in their life, Homer P. Figg was one of these people. Homer's fibs just occurred more often than most peoples. Figg is an orphan living in the Civil War era. The story is centered around Homer's adventures after he finds out that his uncle sold his brother into the Union Army. This is a story of Homer trying to conquer a war much deeper than between two parts of the country.
Maniac Magee is a story of many overlying themes. The main character seems to be unstoppable and invincible, hence the name "maniac". So, the book is about his life as a superstar of a child. But the story is much more than that. Maniac faces many acts of racism throughout the book. So, in a way the book is more than just adventure but also about figuring out oneself. The book is a favorite for anyone who reads it including myself.
What child growing up does not love Junie B. Jones? Her mischief and love for adventure is enjoyable even for adults. In this book, Junie B. is starting school. She wants nothing more than to not have to ride the school bus. After pitching many fits about the subject she finally braves the school bus.
In the First book of Suzanne Collins' Trilogy, adventure and fear bind together to make a thrilling book. In the futuristic country of Panem, The Hunger Games are held each year to remind the people of the 13 districts why they should not have rebelled against the government years before. The book centers on the characters of Katniss and Peeta, who were chosen to represent the thirteenth district in a fight to death. After the Hunger Games start the two start having feelings for each other, but only one person can survive the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games end and the Gamekeepers decide that both Peeta and Catniss can survive. At the stories end the Government speculates the rising of the people and of Peeta and Catniss. Before finishing the first book, one must have the second one on hand because you will want to start it immediately.
Just as you think the series could not get any better, Suzanne Collins, brings Catching Fire to the table. Catching Fire is the second book in the Hunger Games trilogy. A story of courage and bravery. The book starts after the last hunger games ends. Shortly after starting the book we find out that the next Hunger Games that will take place will be for only veterans from previous Hunger Games. The Hunger Games commence and the drama begins. Peeta and Catniss (the main characters) find themselves fighting for each others lives. Somehow they do survive. As the book ends, the government of Panem are even more furious with the people of the districts.
