A truly frightening book because of what it says about British society and the political views of the author. The movie version of this missed the point entire. Who would reject Terrance Stamp in his beautiful youth? I wouldn't.
My favorite book as a teenager and young adult. I like it less the more I understand it, but love it despite its crypto-fascist view of society.
By far John Fowles' best work, which gives a marvelous sense of place and an accurate description of British society at the time. An interesting and never trite love story, with a unique central female character
