I was born and raised in Wilmington, DE, attended Catholic elementary and high school there, and graduated from U of Delaware in 1970. I had to read Valerie Biden Owen's memoir and I'm pleased I did. She's just a couple years my senior, so her story brought back many contemporaneous memories of my own childhood and teenage years in Wilmington, and later at UD. It's uplifting to read about her loving and supportive family, the root of the values that define their life together. Valerie sounds as if she would be a wonderful person to know. Her story and that of her family was a joy to read.
The Big Cheat: How Donald Trump Fleeced America and Enriched Himself and His Family [Hardcover] by David Cay Johnston
Cheaters and grifters surround themselves with cheaters and grifters. That's exactly what Trump did during his four years in the White House. Trump saw to it that the middle class and the poor, including the suckers who voted for him and his fellow Republicans, got screwed, while his fellow cheaters and grifters (family members, Cabinet members, greedy billionaires and insanely profitable corporations) made out like the bandits they are. Probably the happiest conman on earth is Vladimer Putin. Trumpushka and the GOP did all of murderous Putin's work for him during those four years. Putin just sat back with his feet up on his desk while he watched Trump and the Republicans weaken our American democracy, economy, national security, middle class, voting rights, fair elections, ethics, and values. Even if you can't stand the thought of focusing any more of your time on loser Trump, Johnston's book is well worth the read.
The Written World: The Power of Stories to Shape People, History, Civilization [Hardcover] by Martin Puchner
Thank you, Dr. Puchner! The joy you evidently experienced researching and writing "The Written World..." makes for a very enjoyable and informative read.
I'll be passing along my copy of "Forget the Alamo" to a Texas public school teacher. It should be required reading for all Texas history teachers. Especially now.
As a native of Wilmington, DE and an admirer of the Biden family, I felt compelled to read Hunter's memoir. I'm so glad I did. Over the years, I often heard accounts of what a stellar individual Beau was from a young age. With Hunter, it was always the opposite. His memoir has given me a greater appreciation of ALL of who he is. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. It's amazing he's alive. May God bless and keep him healthy.
