I fail to see how this brief novel (more a novella) can be considered for a serious prize. There is a lot here that is mundane, and the greatest pleasure I got from reading it was to realise how lucky I am to not belong to a family such as is described (very well) in the celebration meal, to meet a new addition to this motley crew... I won't be hurrying to buy further novels by Ms Tyler.
