Charming book takes place in the English countryside in a house without electric power. Good book for girls as it has a strong female lead who has a loving support system. This book is a classic, the writing is impeccable and it is a story that will stick with you for many years.

The best thing about this Italian folk tale is that a woman is the hero. She's clever and strong and she outwits a magical count who abducts women.
Based on a true story about a boy who betrayed the Nazi party in Germany. This realistic and historical fiction is a chilling reminder of those dark times. This is a great book for kids because here was a young man who sacrificed his life for freedom, and no one should take for granted our easy way of living in this country.
Bud escapes from an abusive foster care system and hits the road to find the only clues his mother left behind when she died as to who may be his father. This is a realistic fiction dealing with some heavy topics like suicide, homelessness, and poverty. However it is all on the light side and not confrontational in my opinion.
A boy is lucky enough to wind up in the protective custody of resident graveyard ghosts when a murdering fiend kills his family while they sleep. It is a little startling to read the violence which begins the story, but the book is such a page turner, a truly fun tale. Gaiman is wonderfully descriptive and his characters are lovable and enchanting.
This book talks takes place in the art world, a rare setting for a childrens book. A young bug solves a mystery and thwarts a crime with a human boy partner. The bug discovers he has a talent for drawing just like Albrecht Durur.
Loved this book. Very interesting information about the railroad workers and the origins of the songs and tales about John Henry. This is a great way to talk about slavery, what happened after slavery, and to remember an injustice which has been forgotten about. It would be ethical to present this information along side the story of John Henry which I was taught as a child.
Poems which are funny, clever, and accompanied by funny drawings.
Sheep doing all kinds of really fun stiff, flying on trapiz, going to outer space, going to the beach. SImple, easy, timeless illustrations.
Poems about monsters. The drawings are highly imaginative. Reminds me of Dr. Seuss just because it's all silly names and situations. Kids could play with the scariness of the monsters which aren't too scary, but kinda scary!
These poems share unusual formatting and mystery. Many end with a question "what am I?" The illustrations look like litho prints, I think this format contributes to the books educational attribute.
A Mexican version of Cinderella. Although there isn't a magical element, the old fashioned Mexican setting and the way they're presented gives the story a sense of balmy magic. In the end she is still kind to her stepmother and step sisters, which is a nice message for young girls. A new spin on a classic that never gets old.

Enticing bright colors will lure readers to look again and again at these illustrations. The story is about a child who has experienced a different culture from her own. This book has a good message for kids to understand that this way of life isn't the only one. It is okay for people to want to live in different way.
A book about going to school, helps children feel more comfortable with concepts of learning and experiencing their environment at school. Kids love the idea of a dog at school, I know I seriously considered stuffing my cat in my bag a few times. Enticing for those babies going to their first day!
A classic dragon story easy enough for younger readers. I thought this book would take forever to read but it flew by. There are many surprises and exciting moments to remember. A little boy who is homeless meets a dragon and his magical companion, they go off to fulfill the prophesies which will save all the dragon left in the world. There are a ton of magical creatures in this book I recommend.
These stories are jam packed with luscious visuals of splendorous castle and magical places and beings. There is a version of the little mermaid from the perspective of the Prince! I like the way Oscar wilde paints with words , even though I wished for happier endings I was enchanted by his amazing power of description. The stories were effective at leaving me wishing for kindnes in the world.
Teen girls go through some crazy stuff so TALK about it. If they can't talk about the issues in this book with their parents (peer pressure to try marijuana, sexuality, unhappiness at home) then at least they can read about it in this book. Teenagers aren't alone and they're not the first people to go through these things but it is the lucky ones that have wise and caring adults to validate and respect this transitional time.
Non-sensical silly poems are short making this an easy book to pick up and turn lots of pages.
These poems are encouraging and insightful. The poetry is straight forward talking about the beauty of the woods and all the plants and animals which inhabit.

This book is valuable for showing how people can accomplish a lot more as a community working together and how communities require leaders to show them how to do this. The illustrations aren't it's strong suit but this book has an eay pace and s good for the early reader.
These illustrations are liquitex acrylics on illustration board, the colors are bright and the author uses bold lines and a layering technique which looks like chalk drawing. There are lots of baby chicks and different colored chickens in this book. Kids can do lots of counting, there are lots of thing to count but it isn't overwhelming and the pages are very simple.
