A collection of inter-related short stories revolving around the lives of young doctors. The stories give the humanity side in the medical world. Each story reveals a bit more about the characters, and portrays some of the cases a doctor might have to work on. I enjoyed reading this book very much.
This novel is about Priya, a 27-year old Indian woman who is living in the States and is engaged to an American man. She has to face the obstacles as she is about to reveal to her family she is going to marry a non-Indian boy.
It is an entertaining and interesting read, which provides glimpses to the Indian culture and the issues that a woman has to deal with - getting married to a "nice Indian boy" of same/higher caste chosen by the family, producing male heir, dowry ... etc.

I had mixed feeling while I was reading the book. I wanted to finish reading quickly because I was anxious to find out what happened next. At the same time, I didn't want to finish reading it too soon as there would be no more.
I enjoyed reading this book. The part I like most is about Snape's memories. A question that I have though is, why did Rowling have to kill of so many characters? Is it really necessary to make it so dramatic?

The story made me laugh and cry as the author shared his experience of raising the family pet, Marley.
I really enjoyed reading this book!
I really enjoyed reading this book!
A story about a girl falling in love with her best friend's fiance. I don't agree on such act. Yet, I find it hard to hate this heroine. A sweet, wonderful romance story. A total page turner.
Out by Natsuo Kirino
A thriller about a gruesome murder in Tokyo. It depicts the dark side of human nature and the bottom social class in the Japanese society. A great story.
A story about a boy who tried his very best to fulfill his dream - to catch his own star. The illustrations are really beautiful.
A story about a girl who was conceived by her parents with the goal of having her as a donor for her older sister who had leukemia. At first, only one donation of was expected from her when she was first born. However, that didn't work and she had to keep donating bone marrow to her dying sister. At the end, she was asked to give one of her kidneys. She found a laywer because she wanted to sue her parents for making her donating the kidney. She wanted an end to this, even if it meant that her older sister would die. Each chapter was written from the perspective of a different character - from the parents, the older sister, the younger sister, the sisters' older brother, the lawyer that the girl hired and the guardian for the girl. The story wasn't about whether or not she should donate her kidney to her dying sister. It was about how the girl tried to find out who she really was without tearing the family apart.
This novel is about the same story as Something Borrowed by the same author but from a different perspective. The previous book is from Rachel's perspective, the one who fell in love with her best friend's fiance. This book is from Darcy's perspective, the best friend of Rachel and the one being dumped by the fiance. The author did a very good job in portraying a very annoying character - a shallow, self-centred, manipulative and spoiled woman. Although this character is so annoying, it is hard for me to put the book down. There is something compelling about the story that makes you want to keep reading it. Maybe to find out how Darcy finally learned to make a positive change in her life. It shouldn't be a surprise to see a happy ending as it's a chick lit after all. Another entertaining read!
Imagine that when you are 6 years old, you meet a man that comes from nowhere and you find out that he comes from the future because he is a time traveller. Would you offer to help him? This story is about a woman who knew her future husband since she was a child. He time travelled but it was out of his control. She accepted him as part of her life. Each time he left, all she could do was to hope that he would come back to her. In spite of a slightly confusing beginning, it is a good bittersweet love story.
The book presents various projects of simple knitted gifts, that do not require a lot of time to complete. The projects are divided by the time needed to be completed. It's a pleasure just to browse through the book with beautiful pictures.
A collection of beautifully written short stories about the lives of Indians, living in India or abroad.
Interesting observations from the survey on interracial couples. However, the couples that did the survey weren't very representative and this book doesn't give the complete picture.
A very emotional story about a man who decided to give way of his twins because she had Down's syndrome. He chose not to tell his wife, believing he was doing it to protect his wife and his own family. The story shows how this secret basically tore his family apart. It's hard to put down the book.
A travelogue with interesting sketches and pictures. This book inspired me to write my own journal.
As suggested by the subtitle of the book, this is a love story. Two couples became friends, and their teenage kids grew up together and finally fell in love with each other. When the girl was found dead, her boyfriend was charged with murder although he claimed that she wanted to commit suicide. This tragedy not just impacted the boy, their parents were also affected - the friendship between the two families was over and their marriages were put to test as well. As the story continued, further truth and secrets were discovered, revealing what actually happened between the young couple. I won't say this is a super great story but it is a good one. I enjoyed reading it. In fact, it is hard for me to put down the book.
It's a disappointment. The story isn't gripping at all, as compared to the author's other book My Sister's Keeper. The message of the book (my guess!) is about how much you are willing to do for the one you love. A man was willing to kill his wife who was suffering from terminal cancer. For another couple, as a contrast, the wife gave everything to her husband but he took her for granted and ended up having an affair with another woman. I find parts of the story somewhat distracting, including the part on Scottish history.
A story about a boy who found a sad looking penguin at his door. Assuming that the penguin was lost, the boy decided to help the penguin to find the way home - the South Pole. In spite of various obstacles and difficulties, they made their way to the destination. In the end, the boy realized that penguin was sad because it was lonely and they reunited. It is a great story about love and friendship. Oliver Jeffers's artwork is beautiful. Originally I bought a copy of the book for my friend's child. After reading it, I decided to get myself a copy too.
