The dread grows, then begins to drag itself with speed toward the conclusion. T Kingfisher uses language so expertly to breath the imagery with life. I especially am fascinated by the world building that was set up within this novella, especially the nonbinary protagonist who is a retired soldier of a country with a proud warrior culture that has never won a battle, much less a war.
