Mr. Durrell, Lawrence ("Larry") Durrell's younger brother, recounts a childhood spent on the island of Corfu, somewhat in the company of his eccentric family, but mostly with his other brethren: a gradually-burgeoning menagerie of mammals, birds, insects, and arachnids. Told in a grand English self-deprecating style, a delight to read aloud or to oneself, especially in public where you can laugh out loud. I got to enjoy it again when my fifteen-year-old fell in love with reading bits of it to me this summer.
